I am mainly a PC gamer but that is recently. If Sony didn't turn into a multiplatform, I would have more games on PlayStation including games like COD as I can play with ps players only and avoid cheating as much as possible.
I would have most if not all sony exclusives on my PlayStation but now ? I don't even buy them day one because I know they will come to PC and will be very cheap shortly after.
All I know that Sony lost me as a day one buyer to wait for PC port for cheap.
So I kinda agree with the OP. Sure some games are taking longer to appear on PC. But they will come sooner or later.
With that being said. PS5 is like 500$ man. I am sorry but in today's gaming standard that is not even expensive. Especially if you have a gaming PC where all parts are expensive , makes you wonder how bad is a 500$ console really is.
Like I don't think I can wait for some games like final fantasy 7 remake 2 or final fantasy 16 till the next year If not more just to play them. So In my head I was like fuck it, I'll get the game physical ( used if possible from market place ), finish it quickly and sell it to others and don't lose much if any. And then double dip and own it on PC for cheap for a better ultimate version.
That's what I do these days. Last time I turned on my ps5 was to finish god of war, and hopefully vr2 is nice enough otherwise I'll return it ( especially if I can't connect to PC within the return period ( like mods couldn't get it to work etc )

PS5 had a much faster start than the PS4 imo. The first 2 years shows thisI'm still in the PS4 era.
In terms of first-party "magic", I think they got off to a pretty slow start with the PS5, but will eventually catch up to the levels of the PS4, which had the best FP output of any Sony console in my opinion; be it AAA or AA games, that generation was hit after hit.

Sort of off topic but a good example of an exclusive selling a console from my personal experience is FF16.
My older brother who has been a big FF fan his whole life and also a huge ff14 fan bought a PS5 this holiday in preparation for FF16.
He got on there. Set up his PS+ Extra. Played through demon souls, ghosts of tsuhima, god of war both games. And now he has seen how well games look and run and not to mention the dualsense and ease of access. The PS5 is rapidly turning into his main platform.
They got somebody into the ecosystem all because of an exclusive.

This is actually a good point too. I recently did some PC shopping and if you want a PC with a modern CPU and a GPU that can rival the PS5 it's at least 1,200$ imo. if not closer to 1,500 if you want some more future proof.
I bought a PS5 digital recently at Gamestop for $360+ tax. Now I've got an old gaming pc, xbox, and the PS5.

I like having everything in one place. Ideally it was on pc. But in 2017 I was doing some Christmas shopping and there it was. A ps4 slim for 200$ in media markt.
So I just grabbed one, asked my wife to get me bloodborne and last guardian from the shelf over there "for Christmas " and it's done. No more waiting and begging. Not very expensive back then

But that is what I said. I got GOWR for 50$ Cad used and played it. sold it for 50$ Cad used. sometimes you lose 10$ to play the game for 10 days or whatever 1 week to finish a game. I might double dip again when its 15$ on steam for cheap. this is precisely my point when I said Sony lost me a day one customer to bargain bin on PC.
If Sony games were still Playstation exclusive. I wouldn't sell the game I bought ( new or used ) because I know I will not be able to play it on a PC or any other platform.

I agree it lost its magic but ultimately it's for the best. Games should be made for all platforms and you pick which one you prefer.
I'm nostalgic for Nintendo vs. Sega and getting to see the different ports and exclusives but it really doesn't make sense to lock your games behind a single platform. Nintendo is really the only company that should be able to get away with that since their games are so closely tied to their hardware.
PlayStation and Xbox however are just mini PCs now. The only unique features are the controllers.

They may have lost you as a day 1 buyer but regardless you still bought into their ecosystem by purchasing the console for said games. If the games went to PC day-and-date to their console release you would still be in their ecosystem because you're purchasing their games for PC, new. Where has the magic gone if we're still experiencing the same 1st party games?

I have a very nice gaming PC, but I used to travel a lot for work. It was extremely convenient to have a PS4 Pro I can stuff in a dufflebag and play at the hotel. If you don't have a specific purpose for one, you shouldn't buy one. I'm actually shocked that AMD doesn't talk with console makers to make awesome optimizations for CMD GPUs and CPUs. I always feel like consoles hold PC gaming back due to a larger market share.

I actually see where the OP is coming from and yeah, I think it does sort of take away the PlayStation's identity. I don't think it will really hurt Sony especially if they keep getting the games first, but if or "when" day one releases happens, I think that could hurt PlayStation much like day one releases hurt the XBOX. I think that's one of the main reasons the Xbox is struggling. It has no identity and it's a glorified PlayStation with less exclusives while Nintendo actually has an identity and even with older and outdated hardware it's still selling really well.

I think Sony is doing mostly the right thing, for their sake. They usually make most of the money from software, not from hardware, right? They are selling their games for $60 on PC, even 2 years after the game came out. Those who want to play the game instantly(and save 500 or more dollars), without dealing with technical details, will buy a Ps5. Rather than distributing the game to PC markets at the same time as console release, or even free of charge, Sony's method is more logical and sustainable. I would like this system to continue because Playstation supports and organizes many companies and enables them to produce good games. We can play them on Pc even if it takes many years. I hope Nintendo also uses this method. Microsoft probably regretted their day one strategy but we'll see if they can take a step back from this point. They are doing the best thing for gamers, but how long they can sustain this strategy?
TLDR: I hope all consoles find a way to protect their exclusive games enough to keep their brand alive, but also be generous enough to bring them to PC/other consoles, even after some years.

It's not so much that games are being ported over to PC now that has killed it's spark. It's more that Sony just doesn't do it for me anymore.
The PS3 was such an over priced, fantastic console that felt like a multi media system to boot. I absolutely loved it.
As did the PS2 with the DVD player and PS1 with the CD player.
The real bonus was all the backwards compatibility though. Keeping hold of all your old games and just popping them in was great.
The PS4 felt like such a standard console with not magic. It was fine but aside from a few gem of games. Nothing really pulled me over to getting a PS5.
I like having all my games in one system. Not only that but when I upgrade my computer. I can go back and re-play them with better graphics, frames etc.
I honestly don't think it's the PC markets fault for Sony's consoles. I think it's Sony's fault for not expanding the console to add other features.

During the PS2 era, I had no idea Sony had first-party or second-party titles. I mostly played Resident Evil back then... then I tried the new Prince of Persia game, which I first played on the Xbox (i.e., Sands of Time), and loved it so much that I started looking for other games that might be similar, if not the same, and I discovered God of War [I had no idea it was a first-party Sony title] and found Kratos to be a very different type of character and ended up loving the game. Fast forward to the PS3, I was anticipating the next Assassin's Creed game because it was developed by the same team that created Prince of Persia, and with one week until release, I hear about this game called Uncharted, and I also hear that GameStop is selling it early... I had seen no footage or anything on the game, went to GameStop and bought a copy and fell in love with the Uncharted series.
I would say that is the 'PlayStation' magic. Not the platform their games might release on.

People often overthink it when they try to find explanations why MS has fallen behind so much in terms of marketshare, when imo their decision to release all their games day one on PC was at least a big contributing factor. In the past, a game like Starfield would've been a big exclusive AAA killer app, and would've spurred hardware sales considerably – just like games like Halo, Fable or Mass Effect did for the OG XBox and 360 back in the day.
But now, with the game releasing day one on PC, I doubt Starfield is going to have much of an impact on XBox sales at all. And I think the impact of day one PC releases on MS' hardware sales will only get bigger from here on, because PC gaming has never been easier and more accessible (mainly thanks to Steam). This isn't the early 2000s anymore, where the PC and console ecosystems were radically different from each other, and the user experience on PC scared off a lot of the more casual players. Nowadays, the PC experience is much closer to the console experience, while consoles have moved in the direction of PCs with all their contant patches and updates and performance options and so on.
So far, Sony hasn't released any of their 1st or 2nd party games day one on PC, but neither did MS at first. And it's quite possible that Sony's upcoming gaas/online titles will be the first of their games to do so. In that case, it'll only be a matter of time before all their games are available on PC on day one. And if that happens, I see no reason to believe why their console trajectory wouldn't follow that of Microsoft.
Though I wonder, will we eventually see MS and Sony release their games on their rival's consoles too? I mean, I can't think of any good reasons why not – at least none that wouldn't also apply to PC.

Sony should release their exclusives on PC day one because the IP's are and will always be far more valuable than any console they release especially since every console has an expiration date. Also, those who game on PC aren't running out to buy a PS5 if they want the best version of the game and those who are console only gamers (like me) aren't buying a PC for a few grand when there's no reason for me to do so. Sony releasing their exclusives on PC years later is pointless because the PC crowd already moved on years earlier. People put way too much stock into consoles when they all have an expiration date and if building/growing your IP's is far more valuable to a hardware manufacturer than any console because if your IP's aren't successful, they won't sell anything when you release your next console.

I think they'll try to resist the idea for a while, but when they'll attempt this it will the moment they realize "Hey, this shit is far more profitable than trying to rebuild hype for a late port" plus "It doesn't really seem to affect the sales of the console version by much".

Doesn't the duel sense work? Yeah the duel sense was pretty good on ps5 but the overall PC version blows the ps5 version out of the water for looks and resolution/performance...going by the raw footage I've checked out.

In all fairness, GOWR runs amazing on a VRR TV. Very PC experience.
It is- Series S can be had for what, $299?
