"PlayStation 5 hardware unit sales have now surpassed those of PlayStation 4 on a time-aligned basis (29 months in market)."
Finally! Now let's see when this will happen worldwide.

And this is in the USA…where they supposedly have competition, lmao.

The only reason why this hasn't happened WW is because they kept sending most units to the USA and then UK.

Also, flop game, IP and remake no one asked for at #5! Who knew!

They should really do a Unit sales chart as well. Would potentially be quite different to the Dollar sales one!

Would be interesting to know if any older games are selling a lot of copies.

155m seems impossible tbh. They had alot of factors like being a cheap DVD player and the price drop to $99 helping them back then.
Agreed. When I had a PS2 (and PS1), pretty much everyone that I knew had it cracked, so Sony saw very little revenue generated per customer.

Well there you. This entire nonsense of why cross gen is neccessary because of covid, chip shortage, ukraine war and UFO sightings was just an excuse used by greedy pubs to extend the cross gen period to three fucking years instead of the usual 1 year period we had the last couple of gens.

PS5 outpaced the PS4 in the first year. Only lagged by a couple of million the second year and has already taken over mid way through the third year. The Series consoles have been outselling xbox one since day one.

What a load of crap.

Something to think about is that PS5 is the 1st PS since PS2 that isn't stuck with a HDD when it comes to price reduction it really could end up a cheap small console at the end of it's life cycles.

Last year more big games in comparison tbf.
That's true. last year was a decline too, though you can make the argument that fewer releases this year resulted in a lower decrease meaning those individual releases maybe did better this year.

They didn't sell 60M.
And they went quiet after saying they were beating their other gens a while ago.
Sony no longer report PS4 shipments, which means lifetime sales sit at 117.2 million as of March. While Microsoft hasn't provided a concrete sales number for Xbox One, its admission means the company must have sold less than approximately 58.5 million units. That lines up with market research from Ampere Analysis in 2020, which put the install base of Xbox One at 51 million units at the end of Q2 2020. Nintendo Switch currently sits at 111.08 million lifetime sales, and looks set to pass the PS4 later this year.

I'm intrigued what reality and logic made you come to the conclusion that xbox series estimated lifetime could be 80m-90m?
Better studios than Xbox one. they own Bethesda, ninja theory and obsidian. they will also own Activision if it gets approved, which should see them around 90m.

They have gamepass with day1 games, they are pushing hard for 3rd party deals.

All these are factors for higher sales.

No it isn't to get to 80m-90m, that's just wishful thinking on your part.

What were the PS4 sales for the same time period? We can establish a floor for the US PS5 sales this way.

Not so sure about that. They outsold it until September (or October?) 2022. Then they fell off a cliff. I'd say they are either neck and neck or XOne is leading by a slim margin.

COD will still be on PlayStation though.

feynoob feynoob I hate that you can't quote a quote lol. That says less than 58M They stopped making Xbox Ones shortly after Series X launched, I think. So if at the end of 2020 is 51M, they sure as hell didn't sell 7M since then.

Dualsense being the #1 month in and month out speaks volumes. Obviously, someone is going to post about how much they hate haptics and adaptive triggers. But the numbers don't lie.

Once you play a game with bespoke haptics, it's difficult to go back to basic rumble.

It was never a competition.

You can't sell a lot of consoles after a bad period.

Xbox needs this Gen to sort Xbox one issues.

Their estimated lifetime would be around 80m-90m.
While PS is Targeting 130+m.
They are probably going to sell 30M in 3 years. Where are the other 60M coming from until the end of this gen? Lmao

It's not a wishful thinking.

Their bad gen with Xbox one had 50+m sales.

It's logical that their good year sells a good amount of consoles.

X360 sold 85m (??) from 30+m OG Xbox.

It's possible that they hit 80m.

OT 2 is doing excellent, in a month full of new releases and very strong evergreens performing what they usually do.
