Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores is getting slammed on Metacritic (story spoilers)

Are we gonna use metacritic user score now?

neoGAF need to explain why sometimes user score matters and why sometimes don't.

Because if you look in the same way, people give zero to Bayoneta 3 for the same silly reason (because Bayonetta is supposed to be a Qeer?)

Pick up your side already.

User reviews continue to be the shittiest metric to gauge anything.

So in a post apocalyptic world she chooses to be with someone she can't procreate with?

It's her choice but not one of the wisest. She needs to create offspring with the highly skilled genes as her to continue her mission of survival.

see if this was a Japanese game Aloy would be having sex with the robots instead.

If it was a Japanese game, Aloy would have remained a virgin until the first octopus robot showed up.

I find it odd that they review bomb the DLC and not the main game even though the main game ends in a fight where she's being kidnapped by a woman who loves her. I guess they had made it ambiguous that Aloy wasn't gay in the sequel but as soon as i saw that Soebeck was a lesbian, i knew Aloy would be too. She'sa clone after all and you are born gay.

I personally thought that the two had no chemistry. Like someone said, she had more chemistry with the fat mechanic chick from the first game. These two meet and go on a few missions and fall in love. Ok, but why. What do they like about each other? Is it only sexual? Do they find each other attractive? They barely ever flirt about each other's looks. It feels very shoe horned in.

If you've played the games you'd understand she doesn't need to procreate

Or has everybody completely forgotten about Beta already?

Wow two gay characters in Sony games…Big fucking woop…
More importantly is the expansion GOOD? Does it add anything new beyond a few machines? Is the plot interesting? Aloy was clearly gay even in the first game, Im only disappointed it isnt for that hot asian huntress..

So an outlier from 8 years ago means everything shorter in the future should be slammed? Let's not even mention that what you're probably refering to was Blood and Wine. Hearts of stone is about the same length as Burning shores. I personally find that 20 dollars for 10 hours is pretty ok for DLC.
So it's alright to compare 3rd party games with a PS 1st party games from the production value PoV as the PS 1st party are outliers in the industry and require the same standard for 3rd parties, but when asking a 1st party DLC to have the same production value as a 3rd party DLC which is also an outlier is not ok?

Yeah it's only two
Atleast we have all those other straight Sony female characters like....umm...Selene

Yay more corporate box ticking

Can't wait for Sonic Frontiers 2 where there are 2 character selection screens. One to pick your character, and the next to choose their sexual orientation.

Don't know why people can't write normal story.

I don't need to know who your character loves or what they sexual desire is.

I come for the story and gameplay.

This isn't even that surprising. I would expect a female lead to be gay these days especially if it comes from a western studio.

Was it ever revealed in the first game that Elizabeth was a lesbian?
It was retconned in the second game. In the first game she had two male love interests who were cast aside in the sequel since it no longer made sense to have her be attracted to men.

According to Era this aspect is deeply problematic, because it implies that gayness is genetic, and that's bigoted and hateful.

Yeah, was news to me too.
Weird. I guess it conflicts with the whole I'm born in the wrong body Drake of the trans community. Bizarre stance for them to take. You can be born gay and have gender dysphoria.

Saw it coming ...

But there's nothing more ridiculous than a bunch of fans screaming "Why are you so obsessed man? Why do you even care man?".

In 2023 if you're a woman in a video game your odds of being a lesbian are about 25X your odds of being a lesbian in real life. I think I'm being conservative with that one.

So the question is why are the DEVS so obsessed with lesbians? Why do THEY even care? It has exceeded the point of absurdity.

Don't get me wrong. I hate woke bullshit just as much as anyone here. But, you do reach a point where you go too far in being against something when every little thing is perceived as an agenda and not just a story someone wanted to tell. Gay people exist. Yes, it gets annoying at times the way it's handled. But this was one moment in a huge game, that required DLC to reach it, and it was a choice you can decide to not make. Aloy's sexuality is barely explored. It is certainly not treated as a defining aspect of her character. She could be bisexual for all we know. Early in Forbidden West you have three options for how to turn down a male character coming onto you but at least one of the options gave the hint that she might be open to it at a later time. They're not parading her around as some super lesbian. Get a grip.

I guess the thing not sitting well with players is that it feels shoehorned with how little time it takes for Aloy to warm up to this new character when she stated many times during Zero Dawn and Forbidden West that "it's not the time for that.

Havent played the DLC but loved the main game, it's my goty. If what I read is right, there are a ton of issues with this...she became colder and more calculated, more detached from everyone, it's how they build her character in parallel with Sobek and I loved that about her, which many did not, yet all I see in the DLC is the complete opposite of her character.

Seems like reasonable criticisms which I also would not like, changing a character beyond what can be explained by an evolving character, maybe finding him- her- themselves because of some revelation and big cutscene moment or whatever.

I don't mind playing a lesbian, trans, cat, alien, robot whatever, if it makes sense and is not just done for some clearly forced brownie points. Writing quality shouldn't suffer from hiring writers having a victim complex agenda and trying to paint and normalize an unreal world, unless it is supposed to be fantasy obviously.

It would be more brave to make her not gay and have gamer's watch a sex scene of her getting rammed hard by some Quen douchebag.

This is such a safe way to cover both check boxes. Gamers love lesbians cause they don't want their girl getting fucked by any guy but them and this checks that beloved LGBTQ+ and will net you unlimited defense points on Twitter.

So uh, it's a choice ?
and people are upset because of course they are.

Although she was really into the guy from the last game who worked for the kid king (Don't remember the names sorry)

This happens with every PS exclusive nowadays, they all get review bombed on metacritic. The majority of the bad reviews most likely dont even own the game
All games? It's actually just the games with woke or LGBT topic that attract weirdos who make the user score red.

With or without the lesbian love option forbidden west and the dlc are at best a solid 7/10 imho. And if it didn't have the graphics and production values it's sure a very Ubisoft like boring experience but more polished. Zero dawn at least was a little bit more enjoyable. On Forbidden west even many of its main missions were boring. This game is not close to NDs or God of Wars top notch quality….. to me even Spider-Man franchise of insomniac is better! And it's not about the fans or some angry metacritic users ….. forbidden west won almost ZERO AWARDS! That says it all.

Wasn't Ellie enough? Does everyone has to be gay in Sony games?
I'm gay and I'm disappointed because it's just to tick a box.
It would feel more natural to the game if she was straight since she had plenty of male suiters in both games and then they shove a lesbian interest in a short dlc that not everybody will play.
First of all yes. Every character has to be gay from a corporate perspective. That's the in thing right now amongst common folk, white girls in their mid 20's and of course game critics and journalists.

Second, here's a wild thought, how about she's just Asexual because she has better things to do. That's the feeling she gives off the entirety of the beginning of Forbidden West when Aaron keep tring to talk to her after they had some sort of falling out.

Really Sony!? You're going to have not one, but two gay characters in your games! Is everyone gay now besides..*checks notes*...oh literally every other Sony main character?

Relationships are part of any story. Your complaint is absurd.

How short is short? like 6 to 8 hours would be perfect imo
honestly, it's probably under 3 hours. i just finished it last night. aside from the forced, unnecessary romance bullshit, it is pretty stunning to look at. but yeah, i believe it's only 3 missions if i remember correctly. i milled around and explored to extend it. was actually pretty shocked when the "last mission" icon popped up. it's basically a new small map with a boss fight.
