It's been a hot topic of discussion as of late, but yes, Insider Gaming has previously revealed that Sony does have a PlayStation 5 Pro in development. Our report in March was dismissed as being inaccurate by many when it was first reported and although the PlayStation 5 Pro could be canceled at any given time, Insider Gaming can report with a 100% degree of certainty that the PlayStation 5 Pro is currently in development.

Whilst we cannot report on any more specifics at this time, we understand that the first dev kit prototypes will be going to 1st party developers within the next couple of months, with 3rd party developers receiving them by the end of the year.

Expected Release Date: Q4 2024 (Tentative)

Its coming

..why?

This fucking gen didn't even start yet, we've had like 4 or 5 actual gen exclusives
They're making the consoles basically PCs with 3 year new hardware releases
But suckers will keep on sucking

It will be 4 yrs for a midgen refresh, insider gaming is saying it will release Q4 2024. I do agree that they should let this gen last longer though, the economy is crap.

When should they release it, the last year of the console? Half way through the gen is the optimal release time mate.

Anyway better to have higher ceiling than lower floor (Series S). I don't need it but I'll buy it.

Folks are saying this because UnReal Engine 5 games aren't out yet. Which will probably make the PS5/XSX 1440p 30fps machines with all the effects turned on.

Or shitty publications saw how much traffic Switch Pro rumors got so they figured why the fuck not... There is absolutely no reason for a Pro model. It would add cost to every game. Who the fuck would buy one and why would chasing that market be worth it?

I'm probably going to skip any refreshes this time .. even more so if the next Nintendo console comes out before.

For the record PS4 launched end of 2013 in November. PS4 Pro launched at the end of 2016 which is exactly 3 years.

PS5 launched in November of 2020.
PS5 Pro launching in November of 2024 most likely, that's a 4 year difference with an extra year compared to previous gen.

It will be due by then.

If the rumored PS5 Pro keeps me out of the 30fps ghetto then they can have my money. PC gaming is a costly shit show currently so options are pretty limited.

Funny how this "rumors" happen after Redfall disaster and xbox having their worst weeks on years

There is no reason to have a pro console, 8k is not selling, 500 USD is alredy expensive for a console, and ps5 with the same price and cheaper components make a better markup

Remember People, alot of this rumors tend to be false, and the "leakers" Who leak are usually People Who break an NDA

Because gamers want new shiny toys.

Devs have yet to utilize the current system.

30fps will never cease to exist. As consoles get more powerful devs will push harder and harder with graphics. It's only gone momentarily when transitioning from one generation to another.

it will support higher fps, resolution and better RT etc. for the hardcore gamer. The PS5 will be the base console. Getting cheaper and cheaper to manufacture (detachable disc drive for example). The PS5 will be Playstation's Series S basically. Pretty smart move and not stupid like some make it out to be...

Because we already have games running at 1080p rendering resolution with under 60fps (or much worse then 60).

Not to mention current RT performance is not good.

but this time they will give you the option to play at 40 or 60 fps, so everyone can be happy

Hey, you know that rumor we told you we couldn't say much about in March?

We still can't say much about it, but we are just trying to repeat it in case you missed it the last time.

PS5 digital - $199
PS5 - discontinued or $299
PS5 Pro - $499

You're in denial. Just move to acceptance and save yourself the pain.

I agree it will never completely go away, but if you look at the number of 60fps titles in this gen vs last, it is night and day. I don't recall there being 60fps titles being released around the transition from PS360 to PS4/Xbone, so I think we're finally turning a corner.

IMO 30fps only really came about in the early days of 3D and has hung on in the pursuit of what looks better in screenshots and not what plays better. Once good performance becomes a commodity, then we can leave that itchy blanket behind.

PS4Pro at least served a purpose/had a natural marketing angle in offering 4k output and HDR, I doubt 8k is anywhere near that draw and given that 60fps is way more prevalent unless they are upselling 120fps I just don't see a marketing angle.

"More power" is not a strong enough sales pitch by itself, in the console domain most people judge on the games not the specs. Which is why SX failed to make a difference.

I'm going to drop kick the launch PS5 into the Gamestop parking lot when the Pro gets released.
Not even a shred of remorse. Zero emotional attachment to the launch unit.

But it is silent. I'll miss the silence.

199 sounds too low. i am going with 299. and at the tail-end of the generation it will go down to 199
At best $350 for diskless PS5, probably another $100 for external drive and $599 for the Pro.

Prices she gone up since launch, and it will be 1.5 years till PS5 Pro releases.

I am all for it. I have spent an ungodly amount of money upgrading my 2019 PC and I feel like im fighting bugs and performance issues more than actually enjoying games.

If I can get 2x PS5 performance at $600 or even $650. I am going for it.

599!!!

$400 discless + $100 add on drive vs $500 pro makes no sense.

And making a $300 discless.... yeah idk bout all that. Maybe they can but I don't see them wanting to even a year from now. I think they'd rather do $400/$500/$600 and drop all those later down the line.

How can you sell a new console when the current one hasn't delivered with it original premise 😂
It's a joke.
What do they have scheduled after it launches? more ports for PC while we get to play PS4 games at even higher framerates 😂

I agree that there is no straightforward pitch. The likeliest angle is 120 FPS + much better RTRT. 8K market penetration is too low. Sony doesn't even have an 8K TV in the 2023 model line-up.
