Massive FTC Leak: Mid Gen Xbox Hardware, Series S/X Refreshes, New Controller, and Game Plans!

I thought that but someone pointed out all the non xbox products are just outlines.

It clearly says on the triangle slide not first party, I think that sort of investment is costly when they already exist in Microsoft's eyes.

It would have to be some sort of Series S revision or even a streaming only device, maybe that's what they pivoted to when they ditched Keystone.

And launching same window as a PS5 Pro?

Its just DOA period

This think needs to be like 349 for a 1tb option and 399 for a 2tb tops to stand a chance against the pro...and that's nor even mentioning whatever Sony has as the slim style replacement. That think might come in at 349 without a drive.

MS gotta get a deep price cut on the series x with moving to 6nm.

Was going to come in upset because I thought it was a Pro model, but I'm OK with a redesigned Series X. Especially if a price drop is around the corner for either model.

The new controller is interesting as well.

I don't agree with an all digital console ever, so there's that.

This is a joke right? Their whole personality is based on leaking stuff and having insider knowledge but now when the information is out there, they don't want to cover it because its not fair.
Maybe because its not exciting enough, or there is no way to spin it in a more positive light.

A rumored PS5 Pro vs this is gonna be an absolute warzone on Twitter. It might make the Starfield battlefield look tame in comparison.

Agree. MS has to do a price cut on the current XSX too.

Watch after all these leaks, the MS-Activision merger still gets blocked.

It appears that a few users here are meticulously dissecting this document to create new threads for every minor detail, and I'm not quite grasping the purpose behind it. If you're genuinely interested, you can peruse this thread and, should you come across fresh information, you're welcome to share it here, even if it doesn't garner as many likes and attention.

A topic about confirmed games projects and their estimated release windows is a lot more useful than making a new topic for every one of Phil's individual emails.

Look at this topic and you can see what's driving the discussion here. The topic about the games themselves is completely buried by people complaining about the hardware refresh.

I don't know what this proves. That technology released in 2020 is more advanced than technology released in 2017? All I stated is that haptic feedback in controllers has been around for a long time, Sony simply has the most up to date version of the tech.
If the tech isn't the same, what was the point of bring it up in the first place?

I own a Series X- so i will start there. (For "Exclusives")
I generally cant really get fully on board with anything Microsoft does and this is another example of that.

They don't HAVE to do anything.
But at the same time, they can't just say "F you!" to those people who's still buying physical versions. We're long passed Don Mattrick's shit and MS simply can't afford to do that again, not to mention that none of the studios and bublishers they bought, actually did any good for Xbox brand in any significant way, plus they clearly thought that Game Pass will be huge and it's just not. Some can say that just wait and see, there's a lot of stuff announced and didn't come out yet, to which I say there's plenty of games that already out and did absolutely nothing to save Xbox as a brand. Also, I don't care about Xbox, PS or Nintendo and their platforms, I only care about games... and platforms... they're just a box which alows me to play the games and not some sacred shit.
Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo know the details of digital vs physical and if they only release a digital console then they know the results.
PS5 Digital sold like shit, can't imagine Series S did much better, not to mention that it's even worse hardware wise.
Xbox knows they are losing and won't win. They have no chance to beat Sony and Nintendo and they've been pushing the cloud thing hard so them going all digital wouldn't surprise me.
It won't surprise me too. But cloud? Fuck cloud! Where's games worth buying and playing? OK, there Hi-Fi Rush and Psychonauts 2 (which won't move mountains), but what else? It's been almost 3 years and there's nothing worth buying and playing still to counter Sony stuff at least, and Nintendo... forget about Nintendo, they live in the bobble and their own universe. It's not like Sony has something waiting for us in 2024 1st party-wise, but they've at least had a lot of 1st party games since PS5s release where as Xbox had zero console sellers and relied heavily on 3rd party and indie devs. I mean, we can talk on and on about this and that in regards to MS, but so far they've failed miserably on pretty much all fronts and no, I'm not counting just a few exceptions cuz they don't matter.

I wish them luck with what's comming next and I really want to play some of the games that are coming, but count me not impressed with everything they've done after FH4 and Gears 5 games-wise.

I wish it weren't this way, but... yeah, we're definitely going to see a "reverse" of that, when there was never any need to play it down. I think I read that the controller also has a speaker, so I'm happy to hear that.

I guess they went for the Apple Mac Pro design:
Apple-Mac-Pro.jpg
Ugh. At "cool" as these looked at the time albeit they were terrible to work on. I couldn't stand getting one of these in with the split motherboard and shit.
I don't understand the point of these refreshes.
I say this every time I see this sentiment but here we go.

Components are cheaper. You can refresh to use cheaper components (Sony has already refreshed internally like twice since launch). Even considering development costs which companies are always doing anyways it's cheaper per wafer, and cheaper components in general.

When it comes to size. Smaller console size means smaller packaging which means smaller shipping.

Every tiny little decrease in size/cost means more profit and/or lower cost to consumers.

Then you also have need for new marketing which can lead to more sales due to attention because you have something new which is exciting for consumers.

On the PlayStation side even if the refresh is only 2cm smaller it leads to more profit. Even if you only save $5 per console all in when you sell 50M…

Even the Xbox One S All Digital was done for two reasons. Profit and a chance to test the market for the Series S.

Microsoft knows they are losing and this console might be a test to see what they can get away with. They can take the loss and it's not like the decision is make or break. It's already break just might be more so.

I can understand the excitement, I also read a lot of the leak and find it interesting, I'm just annoyed by the fact that every bit of information is exploited here in the cheapest gutter press manner to get attention and clicks.
So much so that the main page consists of 50% threads to one leaked document...

The PS5 Pro is going to be $599 at a min sans the drive. The PS5 Slim being $399 is problematic, but that's how it is today.

Lol did you even read. considering storage cost pennies these days, they are increasing the price it's just sad 😞ripping off their fans like that. , I'll just stick to ps5 pro and switch 2 thanks.

Yup, hopefully for Microsoft they've somehow designed this thing to be as cheap but we'll built as possible.

I think they need to cut the price on the whole series stack asap to be honest.

Series s - 249
Series x - 399

They still have the current Seties X though that plays discs. Nobody needs to buy this or even should if they have a SX already.

Digital sold worse which could be down to manufacturing or consumer choice. It's near impossible to find it in stores so it could very well be manufacturing. They probably don't make or make as much money on the digital version.

But also look at the device between digital and physical games. It would appear a high amount of people who bought the physical don't put discs inside it.

Series S also has appeared to outsell the X at least recently partially because it's a cheap way into game pass and to get the few exclusives worth it on Xbox.

Don't forget how much money Microsoft can tank without any REAL repercussions.

All-digital ecosystem.

That's a bold move, which I'm not sure is going to pay off for them. Sure it locks down every transaction to being through them, but honestly I'm not sure what the psychological impact is going to be of seeing boxed product get aggressively phased out.

So Microsoft will continue to suck based on these hardware leaks, with shitty digital only future (Sony also sucks since the current leadership took over, so no need for angry fangirl reactions from either side.) But damn, the Bethesda leak sounds amazing. Doom Year Zero and Dishonored 3 are system sellers (only disc based X!) for me, even without seeing them. I would have liked for id to take a break with Doom and before going back to it, create a Quake reboot in a similar fashion, but alright, I'll take this too.

I'm surprised Dishonored is even getting a sequel. Have those games sold at all? Someone high up at MS must be a fan. Probably Phil since he's just a gamer like us!

I never thought I'd meet another person here who thought the same thing I did about controllers lol. People here talk about games not evolving, but dual joystick controllers have not truly evolved for over 20 years now, and every company is now too scared to take a chance at doing so.

It's crazy that everyone just settled into it.
Yes man the current design it's so simplistic and don't improve the controllability of the game in any way whatsoever.

There are several problems not solved like lack of precision, number of frontal and back buttons, ergonomics and size are also too fucking standard.

For once a company could try to release a new console with an updated controller design...

Great looking redesign and more than happy to sacrifice the drive I've never used for double the storage, makes more sense for Gamepass and the 30 million plus customers, always said Starfield would push them over that figure.
These games on top of the announces line up is just incredible, going way past the 360 era now, greatest first party line up in history.
Good to see that we have next gen in the pipeline too, always thought the naysayers were wrong again.

If we get new controllers, I hope they are compatible with the OG systems. LOL

Hopefully they release a standalone disk drive option, otherwise they give up a lot of potential shelf space at retail. Though, I guess they could try and make digital code purchases on cards more of a thing. Publishers could easily send around millions of those without worrying about the sell through. Might make the stores more accepting of an all digital system as well.

So you're OK with same console, same price, worse design, all digital? 🤨

512GB Series S at $199 is going to sell like crazy for Roblox/Minecraft/Fortnite kids.
They had it fire-saled at that price all last year, given away with LG TVs, given away with Verizon, and $150 deals in other regions... and that was not the case.

And what happened to this?
People don't like to hear it but $299 has ALWAYS been the "mass market" console price.

$349 Slim and $499 Pro^^

It's going to be day 1 GP, so sales doesn't really matter anymore. They just need games to fill the catalog and drive subscriptions.

Apart from givin' fuel to the console war and appease some of the more hardcore audience, I don't think there is any benefit for Sony to launch a pro console in today's scenario, specially if Microsoft don't follow suit. Their focus should be on making PS5 cheaper and increase their base.

Oh wow I thought it was a PRO but no. I guess digital makes sense for Xbox now with Game Pass but I'm still going full physical with Playstation.

Yes it's actually games that rely on millions of sales to break even that are the ones low on innovation and risk, when you have a massive income stream with 30 million plus Gamepass subscribers you can take those risks and invest in games with more confidence.

What a day it would be to "leak" a little more info about said PS5 Pro

Xbox is pretty much a digital console these days but there is one benefit with the Xbox ecosystem, they allow third party key selling which means I can get new game extremely cheaper than say like PS store digital.

I got Jedi Survivor and Fallen order £35 preorder, COD MW3 at £55 for the vault edition and more, if they didn't have this there would be no point
