With the way inflation has gone and the blow-up in GPU pricing around next gen launch, $499 seems like the right price now considering the upgrades. Sucks, but it's not unfair. I fully expect a mid-gen refresh to cost $699 if they changed their mind and started heading down that route (this info seems to be 16 months old or so).

To me this news is shit. Honestly, both Sony and MS are becoming shit companies beyond belief. I usually don't mind routing for the underdog. But MS wanting to kill the physical games like that is shit to me. The fact this is a mid gen refresh kinda tells me they will stop making the original Xbox series X and this will be it's placement.
At this point, there is no need for any store to carry any Xbox games then.
I do like Game Pass but I am not subbing every month. Some games I like to buy and keep so I can play them anytime I want without having to pay MS monthly to play them. Especially games like Forza Horizon and soon Call of duty.
Them killing the physical is a no go for me especially for consoles.
You start to route for Sony but then they are shit with their shitty management which I hate ever since zombie Jim took charge. Releasing useless hardware like the portal or psvr2 with its awesome tech and no games for months instead of focusing on their first-party games or even a truly portable system to compete with the Switch 2. Or the 100 Canadian for a yearly plus just to play online.

This is horrible. A new Series X without a disc drive for $100 less along with the old model would have been great, but what the hell is this? The same price without a major feature? I don't care about their environmentalism, either. That's not an upgrade for me in any way.

Pro will be $599 max, but I can see a digital only launching for $499. At that point, refreshed XSX looks like a terrible proposition.

GYRO in the controller finally! I hope it's customizeable on a system/game level like how Steam does it but if not, hopefully Steam will let you use the gyro how you want to if it's supported by Steam the new gyro supported controllers

Sony are offering a plugin drive, they're only a short step behind dropping discs and think how many games will be on disc when the plug in drive is the only option, just a handful of limited runs, some probably not even if your region.
With most downloading games now, it seems people aren't being honest with themselves now the end is near. How do you expect it to survive if you don't buy physical? It will be niche and then gone. Stores are drying up with games and moving them to a little corner.
I get it's sad that physical is ending, I wish it wasn't myself as it's cheaper and offers resale value. I struggle to fathom how people are ready to pay for these digital downloads at full price from MS/Sony but they do.
Consumers have chosen this while discs have been on the systems and physical games available, convenience and less clutter has won.
