[PlayStation] State of play announced for the 31st of January 40 minutes 15+ games

I used to get very excited about every news from Sony. But they've finally managed to stop getting me excited.
They are so silent about their banger studios + the focus on Gaas has really killed it for me. My PS5 is catching dust right now.

Guess I just move on. Playstation is no longer the Playstation we used to know.
Fuck their State of play. Its always just disappointing

Trains getting kinda fast these days, if ya don't mind maybe adding a little old folks home off in clouds n to the right. A place for us more 'senior' gamers, who are excited, but definitely going to need a nap after.

Feels like a decent time for Sony to put the boot in on MS while Phil and co are fucking things up all over the shop. Let's hope this is a State Of Play that justifies its existence, rather than some of the ones we've had in the past that barely required a blog post, let alone a full blown video announcement.

Can't wait for more judas. So many potentially great games on that list. Let's gooooooo

Damn, almost forgot about that game lol

I need me a Bioshock fix for sure. If the trailer and new gameplay is hype, will kindly play the Bioshock remaster in anticipation

40 minutes for 15 games, that's less than 3 mn per game and nothing else. Just trailers sound disappointing unless there's some awesome reveal somewhere.

PlayStation is looking pretty bad this gen to me, in a sense that they don't surprise at all, just some sequels and some remasters, I hope they'll surprise us.

Because a DLC of Spider-Man 2 sure, some 3rd parties with temp exclusivity ok why not, but where are the REAL things ? PS1 had a lot of exclusives, PS2 too, PS3 got Uncharted, TLOU, Ratchet (since PS2), God of War (since PS2) and now we're 18 years later (wow) and we're still just on the same licences... Where are the new AAA IPs ? And some "indie style cool stuff" like Patapon, Rain, Last Guy, or even Ueda's games ?

Please Sony, appeal me again.

Really would like for the trailer for vii rebirth to be kept at minimum length. One minute at max. Its already coming out. Show us some brand new ass games.

I'm not sure if Sony are renowned for hitting the ground running with new IPs. Though they have released one of the best new IPs (in my opinion) this gen in Returnal, I think the big guns will arrive in the last couple of years of the PS5 life - so 2025 and 2026, maybe later still.

We know Insomniac have Wolverine, SSM are working on a new IP, Bluepoint could be working on a new IP, ND could have a new IP, or TLOU 3, and GG may very well be working on something new - though the final Horizon game is most likely.

The point is, new IPs take a long time to create, especially nowadays.

I'd rather have that than 3 gameplay walkthroughs or jokes between developers because they have nothing to show.

Not even excited. I'd like to see some games from internal 1st party studios but you know. Still, it could manage to beat that trash showcase last year.

"1st party PS Studio games". Tune in.
"Internal 1st party select studios". Don't.
"Internal select." You are having to make up words because your definitions don't cut it mister. Just drop these dumb terms and say 2nd party, 1st party like everyone else.

I wasn't expecting anything 1st party besides Concorde anyway.

They already confirmed that two first-party games (Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade) will be there, and before you tell me that they are not from their owned studios or whatever, well, we can say the same about 90% of their PS1 output, I guess?

I'm not having this argument with you again because of your made-up definitions. The truth remains the same: all funded and published* titles are first-party games.

The same people who'll say that Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, or Death Stranding are not 1st party games will convince us that Forza Horizon 1-4, Ori, Microsoft Flight Simulator, etc. are first-party games.

Will the games be on the Playstation studios logo? or be with their own studio/ publishers instead? I don't mind either way, just curious. I don't need you to leak anything in case that info need to wait for the SOP, but would you consider the logo what will be the difference between Death Stranding, TLOU 2, or a game like Fall Guys/ Kena?

I don't have to argue since you revealed yourself that the definitions don't work. You had to add "internal, select." But agreed, my intention is not to argue.

Are you talking about this SoP specifically or in general?

Let's talk about how it generally works: Sony decides to make a game. They fund a game. That's a first-party game.

Some people think that only when a studio that Sony built or bought works on a game will it be a first-party game. But that's absolutely wrong.

Sony funded Returnal. They hired HouseMarque to make that game. It was a first-party game. Some argued it was not a first-party game. But later Sony purchased HouseMarque after Returnal had released. So, now it's a first-party game? That makes no sense because the game was already released. How does an acquisition payment to a couple of studio owner changes the nature of a game?

Sony's internal xDev team also worked on these games. Why do people ignore that team?

These folks consider TLOU 2 a first-party game. But Naughty Dog only had 400 employees at the time. Sony hired a dozen other studios -- 2,000 outside employees -- to work on TLOU 2. So 16% ND employees and 84% outside employees. So how does that still qualify as a first-party game?

It's all stupid and made-up.

If a PlayStation Studio logo appears in a game, or if SIE publishes a game, it is a first-party PS game. You'll see that a lot in this State of Play.

I forgot to answer this part.

Death Stranding and TLOU 2 are both first-party games because Sony funded and published them. It's the reason that both games have the PS Studios logo with 0 differences at all.

Fall Guys / Kena are not published or funded by Sony, so they are not first-party games. Those are 3rd party games. And you'll notice that the PS Studios logo does not appear for these two.
