So the story in Double Exposure takes place around 10 years after the events in the first LiS game which makes it a direct sequel.I remember liking the first one, but then completely lost track of the developer because the following games looked boring.
This one, judging from the trailer, looks interesting.
So the main complaint is that you get to decide which ending Max had in the first game. Considering how much you sacrifice for one of those and what the outcome in this game essentially boils down to if do. Then they should have just taken player agency in that outcome away and had them choose one of the two endings as canon and stuck to it.
It's far far better than the half arsed explanation this game has to pull out it's ass to allow for this. It's much less painful if you choose have one ending over the other, so they should of just picked that one and said "that's the canon ending" and worked off that.
Otherwise you start the game with "what was even the fucking point then?" Hanging over the whole experience.

Yeah, IMO these are BS requirements, and 4080 for 4k 30, sure sure. It's a beautiful game, but LIS games rely more on artistic touch than something tech heavy, a 3080 should run this game 4k at least 30 fps. Those are pretty high requirements for an adventure game... a 3080 to play in 1080p? Damn.
What about meatspin, goatse, 1man1jar etcMan I hate the OP with a passion I just recently got over the trauma imposed oh so many moons ago referencing that that title! I instantly snapped back into my PTSD and got sick... Thanks for making me relive my trauma!
Luckily I never saw those and I'm ignoring you now so I won't feel compelled to look these up! One time FOMO won't get me!!What about meatspin, goatse, 1man1jar etc
It's not.Just saw that it's also another episodic release. Those were fun back in the day, but nowadays not so much.
But Max is still on it so it's a win.The first game became the hit that it did because DontNod caught lightning in a bottle with Max and Chloe. Both them and Deck Nine have spent the last decade trying to duplicate it and neither has come anywhere close to succeeding. So Deck Nine decided to break the emergency glass and seem to have given the people what they wanted.
I've read the leaks. Some of the following isn't really spoiler material but I spoiler'd it anyways because it somewhat implies what happens.
The LIS fandom has basically spent the last decade obsessing over Chloe and Max's relationship. This is understandable since the other games in the series have been so weak. People have been absolutely STARVING for more Chloe/Max content, so Deck Nine has finally decided to capitalize on this and release a game with Max in it.
Now, this would seem like an easy win for them. Just give the fandom exactly what they want: Chloe and Max go on a fun lesbian adventure using Max's powers that eventually leads to them understanding each other even better than before and then they get married or something. Sell some preorder DLC with outfits from the first game, pick a good soundtrack, and BOOM you're swimming in cash.
Instead, we're getting another shitty sequel where Max is involved purely for the name recognition. Chloe is basically handwaved away and isn't in the game at all. Also, the ending of the game essentially sets up an Avengers-style team up for the rest of the series.
To add salt to the wound, the few pieces of dialogue Chloe has in the game during a flashback memory appear to be recorded by someone other than Ashly Burch. You can compare them and they sound different.
I can't believe they've taken something that could have been a return to form for the series and whiffed it so badly.

Haven't finished the 1st chapter yet since I'm taking my sweet time, but I'll have to say that I'm really enjoying it so far (I'm 2h in). I like the cast of the new characters and I of course love that Max is back. The music so far is great as well and I hope that Squeenix / Deck Nine will be uploading the full OST on streaming ASAP.
Won't enter into any story spoiler territory so I'll touch on a few more 'technical' aspects I guess. I tried playing in performance mode on PS5, but I thought the image quality suffered a bit too much, so I switched to the default quality mode, which is 30 fps.
IMO the devs really did a great job upgrading their tech since True Colors (I'm guessing that Double Exposure is running on UE5). They put a ton of work into making Max's facial animations expressive but not exaggerated which I'm liking a lot (see gif below).

The lighting engine (Lumen?) works really well as well in certain scenes. Oh and yeah the hair physics are very well done too.

I also really enjoy some of the relaxing moments where you can chill for a bit and listen to music while the camera cuts away to the scenery.
As for the not so good things, there's some streaming issues when the camera cuts which is a tad annoying as it can take a a couple of seconds for the highest quality textures to load in.
