Asmongold: Eldritch Gamer

Dont watch his streams but recently been catching most of his clips on YouTube. Still can't tell if he's playing a character or if he presents the real him. I choose to believe it's a character.
No one would live in absolute squalor and filth with rats, roaches, and giant spiders crawling all over them as a multi millionaire without severe unaddressed psych problems. I think most of his audience would probably be happy for him if he cleaned up his act and returned to society in a healthy way, too. There are videos with his streamer friends taking him to do basic tasks like shopping or to a museum and the reaction is all encouragement. So he has no incentive to stay gross. I for one hope he continues to work on himself.

Hoarding disorder comes to mind. Hoarders become obsessive about keeping everything and no one else cleaning up on their behalf, because it's all in a place they're comfortable with.

The guy went through some significant trauma when he had to take care of his sick mom as she declined and died, in that house. Most things have been kept unchanged since then. Probably related.

He also checked out on the real world and became indifferent to a large extent some time in adolescence.
I only started watching some of his videos when Concord started happening. So all I know is he looks like a slob going by his cam view.

But you never know. Maybe he's actually super neat and tidy in his other rooms but gives off an image being a down to earth guy just giving funny view on life and games.

Then I saw parts of that video where he cleaned his rooms and he showed a 15 year old KFC receipt. Then I thought, ya this guy is really messy. Nobody is going to keep receipts like that to fake an image in 2024.

But I never knew about his mom until your message.

It sounds like a mental illness, like what the hoarders have. Typically it stems from trauma of a close loved one's death or divorce, and their inability to know/want to care for themselves.

I feel like his life was meant for the TLC channel, right after 90 Day Fiancé and before Sisterwives.

Same, I know about his videos since I was also a WoW player from time to time. And I watch his videos sometimes because he makes a good point against some of the crazies out there which are much worse than him. This is the first time I heard about his mom passing away. That would definitely explain it. He was definitely struggling mentally during those years but still remain a decent sport from the way he acts mostly. Really the only bad thing I see from him is just the hoarding/not cleaning often part.

Ya.

He does seem rough around the edges the way he talks and lives pretty messy. But, when i watch his videos and hear his off the cuff views, I usually agree with them. Not all the time, but holistically I think he has a very common sense way of thinking about things. He would make a very good marketing manager because he could give pretty sensible views and predictions on things without needing detailed data.

The only thing I find odd is he's supposed to be a core gamer(?) but he gets many gaming facts wrong like release year of a game or system and things like that which I'd think are pretty common knowledge across gamers. Then again, maybe he isnt a super knowledgeable gamer as a whole but focuses on WoW. That part I dont know about.

I've got mixed feeling about the guy.

I like his takes 80%.
He attracts unreasonable amount of hate which i find interesting.
I hate the way he lives. The amount of soda he drinks disgusts me.
But I do think a good amount of it is an act.

His editor is excellent and does more work than most gaming journalists

I think his house was pretty filthy even before his mom's passing, IIRC.

Saw this and was wondering what the point of it is. On the surface it seems to me the author of the video wants to express disgust over the vile and obscene messages his subject sends over the internet (of course while drawing the obvious parallel to the outer / physical appearance of both his subject and the subjects private living conditions). Then again, knowing at least a bit of his (Asmon) content, I can't shake the impression that his interpretation is a bit unfair as I think he cherrypicked hard to paint the streamer in a very one dimensional fashion.

WTF lol.

I like the way he take jokes about himself.
I can understand that, and in principle I think you're right: everyone loves a person that demonstrates humour, being able to laugh about themselves and so on. However, I think in this case you can clearly see that (like many other things) his reaction is not authentic and genuine but feels rather forced. I do think he got hurt, he's not honest about it not even to himself. If the guys soul was a lung it'd be black as night like when you've been smoking three packs of cigarretes every day for three decades.

You might be overthinking this. When I look at the overall theme of the rest of this creator's videos, it mainly seems like he just wants to make crazy fucking caricature videos. It's extremely artsy.

I really hope the guy just uses this house as a workplace to make this fans think he is authentic and in realitiy he has a nice place where he lives when not streaming.

I've just recently started looking at his videos here and there and I can appreciate the guy. Even if I often don't agree with him I think he gives interesting and unfiltered takes on current gaming topics etc. It's refreshing to see a person of that popularity who doesn't become insanely polished and sanitized like some other famous people. Nice to see that he has started taking better care of himself though. Everyone deserves to live in a clean place.

I will never understand why this person is so popular and get so much attention. Everytime I see his thumbnails I cringe

His audience can't be too smart, that's for sure

I feel the more time we spend on the internet and become disengaged with one another face to face it becomes so easy to just check out on the world as a whole.

We are presented in the news and social media with the horrors of what is outside of our houses that it's an easy choice to stay in the safety of our homes. I for one have found my desire to travel the world become less as I have gotten older. I'm quite happy with what I have here and feel like its a risk to travel even for a holiday which sounds so stupid.

I think we are going to see a lot more "shut ins" and "Hikikomoris" in the future.

Time ago on another tread about Asmongold someone said that all the faces on his videos seems always like he entered his parents room and saw them having sex

statics don't lie my dude
Statistics? What statistics? Have you maybe considered that the numbers have increased because universally people are more aware of mental health and symptoms of poor mental health? Education around mental health has increased. People are more comfortable to talk about their mental health nowadays compared to years ago?

I think its important to consider these things rather than just saying blanket statements.

among other factors. the point is. this asmon dude has to deal with a bunch of criticism/attacks/harassment etc.. just like any other internet/public personality.. the difference is; the same people who hate this dude and call him nazi, right wing, piece of shit etc... couldn't never take a video like this made about themselves.
