Controller stick drift is breaking Call of Duty's Squid Game mode

This isn't a bug in the mode, the guy has stick drift on his controller. The mode detects ANY movement (it could be a bit over sensitive) so any tiny bit of stick drift at all gets you killed.

A workaround is to adjust the controller dead zone in the options.

Lmao @ charging console owners 80 dollars for controllers without Hall Effects
It's crazy that Dreamcast controller had a hall effect stick in 1999 and then console manufacturers just decided we won't do that thing ever again in 25 years.
Inside those decision making rooms.

Hey boss we can make damn near the perfect controller that lasts almost forever

You mean we cant sell them an $80 controller every 6 months?

Nope these hall effect sticks last a super long time

I went through my joycons and 2 pro controllers on Switch this gen. Never replaced my joycons (I fucking hate the ergonomics of those things anyway) and when my 2nd pro controller shit the bed with drift during Tears of the Kingdom, I said fuck it. Never completed the game and ended up using a wired 3rd party pad I bought for like $20 with no rumble or gyro, etc. I bought exactly one game for the system after that and haven't purchased or played anything on the Switch since.

Right now I'm on my 3rd DualSense in 2 years. If this one fails, I'll go 3rd party or just abandon the PS5 entirely. And with Sony's output this gen, I honestly wouldn't miss it for a second.

As always, as lons as people will be willing to spend 80 (or even 200) bucks for a faulty controller, nothing will change.
At this point, after all this time, the blame is totally on the consumer.

Hasn't happened to me yet, and hopefully does not.

This might be a temp fix (cannot say if it will fix it or not for certain but perhaps worth a try?):

Played this quite a few times with a controller yesterday, didn't fail me once. Won several rounds as well. Just adjust the deadzone in the setting, how hard can it be.

Stick Drift is my biggest disappointment this gen. I had every Playstation console, and this is the only gen I've ever had this problem, with 3 out of the 4 Dualsense controllers I own. The only one that hasn't gotten it (yet) is the 30th anniversary controller I just picked up a little while ago.

Absolutely embarrassing flaw considering the cost of modern day controllers.

How hard can it be to not sell overpriced trash to your customers?

People saying the mode is shit ignoring the real problem really cracks me up, they just bend over for these assholes and their garbage products.

Stop justifying these corpos, I hope there's a class action lawsuit incoming, I'm actually surprised that 4 years later they keep getting their way in Europe.

I mean, people keep buying them, so what incentive do they have to fix it? Even the $200 Dualsense Edge uses potentiometers, and people still buy them in droves.

Wait, you want a class action lawsuit for a device with a warranty? Good luck.

I'm with you though, it sucks, but this is standard for just about every consumer bought device out there. Short life spans to force you to buy again.

I'm about 50/50 with controllers owned developing stick drift. So much a lottery I would never consider buying an elite version.

Do they sell mini controllers or does he have thighs for thumbs?
Some of us have massive bear paws for hands and with how I rest my thumbs on their pads to use the sticks my thumbs constantly bump and rub against each other using the dualsense

One huge reason I prefer the stick layout of the Xbox controllers

Er, yeah, if your controller is basically broken don't try to play games with it unless you use the available software solutions (increase deadzone as mentioned) to resolve it, derp.

Don't see why it has to be pointed out as an issue for any specific game/because of instant death, like fighting against unintended input is just fine or amazing to get elsewhere.

Granted they'll probably also patch the game to only detect enough of a stick threshold that actually causes the character to move but ey, gotta clickbait outrage while you can.

You mean Saturn 3D Control Pad in 1996. Magnetic analog triggers too on both. Though quality potentiometers are fine, like CH Products uses in their immortal flight sticks etc.

Completely on purpose. Basically stick drift has become bigger issue with sony consoles during PS4. More specifically, the v2 ps4 controllers. Im sure they use cheaper parts in the housing of the sticks so they break faster. This continued on with ps5 controllers :(

Yeah that too but I think the Dreamcast controller was the last one that came from 1st party manufacturers with hall effect sticks.

Though I have PS1, PS2 and PS3 controllers that never generated stick drift so I don't know what went wrong this generation.

Exactly. It started with ps4. My guess is just cheaper parts to save costs, which in turn actually makes them even more money since people keep buying controllers more often.

I'm tall but wasn't blessed/cursed with digits as wide as the Xbox d-pad. Are you paw folk forced to wear mittens instead of gloves?

Well, there may be some truth in that, but there's also much more nuance to it.

The original message was, paraphrased: "THE GAME MODE IS BROKEN!". That's what I focused my opinion around.

However, there are two separate issues here:

- The game mode
- Controller issues, such as stick drift

The game mode clearly is not broken, so there's no need to waste time on that aspect. This leaves us with these scenarios:

a. The controller is broken: It may need a replacement or repair, hopefully under warranty.
b. The controller is in a grey area: It may only need an adjustment to the deadzone to fix the issue.
c. The controller is fine: No action is needed.

Yes, under a. and sometimes under b., the responsibility may lie with the design. In these cases, the design should be improved, either by own common sense, or perhaps pressured by a lawsuit, idk. And as a consumer, you may need to find a reliable solution to suit your needs.

Dualshock 3 on PS3 had hall effect sensors on launch models so not quite accurate but agree on the sentiment.

I wonder if this is why the camera keeps panning left while doing nothing in Fenyx rising, my original PS5 did it but also my basically new DS on my Pro, is it really that common and bad

And nothing will force corpos to change their ways if this keeps up.
Well I'm not going to play with a controller that I don't feel comfortable with. I've tried plenty of other controllers. I need a good dpad, I hate asymmetrical sticks, and Dualsense feels the best in my hands. I like the other features too like the speaker, rumble, adaptive triggers, microphone, etc. It's just the sticks that are the problem, and Sony should be shamed for it.

Wait really? ....that's fuckin awesome. How come people don't talk about that more?

Man, the PS3 was rad. Humble Sony is best Sony, I miss that era.
