John Woo, Chow Yun-fat Classics Among 156-Film Golden Princess Library Acquired by Shout! Studios

Yooo this is big. This giant library was once acquired by a big company (a construction company afaik) that didn't really care about movies and wasn't interested in selling for several decades. Shout now finally managed to buy the whole library.

This is great, although Shout! Studios don't directly release here in the UK.
but you can still import them and 101 Studios release some of their stuff here.

The Killer is a classic and Hard Boiled is just amazing, been years since I watched it, the Better Tomorrow trilogy is also on that list.

One of my favorite scenes ever:

He is all laughing with the girl then he slowly opens the door, the music stop, people stop talking, the close up on his straight face... 🙏

Director John Woo has already given his stamp of approval. "He said he was very happy with the restoration — which was incredibly rewarding to hear, especially given how personal the film is to him," Weintraub confirms.

Great news. I hope they all come with English dubs.

Same. Purists will gag but this is how I first saw these movies and that weird 'British guys living in Hong Kong attempting American accents' vibe is part of the experience for me.

Can't wait to see it in the theater. It's great that there are passionate people putting in the work to preserve and restore the classics.

I saw it in the theatre back in the day when this movie actually got a UK release. I had no idea what the movie was other than "HK king Fu movie with guns". I was absolutely blown away and I'm glad you'll also get to experience the big screen version.

This gets me nostalgic for the old Hong Kong Legends DVD line in the UK back in the early 2000s. Anyone used to get those? They really made some of he films to look way better than they actually were lol. Although there were obviously some straight bangers in there. I went to the park in Hong Kong with all the movie star plaques and geeked out for ages lol.

The Killer was my favourite film for absolutely years. Controversial opinion but Hard Boiled, A Better Tomorrow didn't really hit in the same way for me. I actually remember preferring A Better Tomorrow 2. Bullet in the Head was kind of laughable. Never really liked Infernal Affairs either. However I do agree with the poster about City on Fire. That film is excellent.

Man, Hong Kong. It was for a time for the best city in the world without a doubt. When I went before COVID and pre-crackdown, even though it wasn't probably was quite the same as it was, it was still awesome and I loved it.

Arrow Films has struck a deal with Shout! Studios to release 156 Hong Kong titles in the UK, including seminal classics by John Woo and Tsui Hark.

A better tomorrow 2 has great action scenes, but it's pretty obvious that there's lots of stuff missing because the studio thought Woos version was too long (2 hours and 40 minutes) and then Tsui Hark cut it down to less than 2 hours.
