First season is the best.
It kind of
soft reboots each season
which is a bit frustrating but it never gets Westworld season 2 bad.

I couldn't resist clicking the spoiler :D Sounds intriguing, I just hope the "teenage" daughter and her hot friend stay on

Currently watching Apple's Severance, really dug the premise, although second season starts to lose me, too much romance drama in it with Helena/Helly etc.
Screaming fat fuck is getting annoying too..

AJUMP23

Parody of actual AJUMP23
LA Palma - 4 episodes. 3 episodes of nothing leading to 30 minutes of a decent disaster flick of destruction. There are a lot of bad decisions in this show, but the CG destruction is pretty good. Also to meet the netflix quota they throw in some gay relationship for some reason.

So, I just finished Season 2 of The Leftovers

Holy fucking shitballs. I don't know if any show every illicited as many audible gasps (and literal squeals of excitement) from me as this one. This is now easily a top20 show for me, and I really don't say this lightly. I hate hyping up shows among a crowd who haven't seen it yet, but I just can't help myself with this one. The last episode had me screaming at some scenes because the pay off was so god damn good. Now with this post I obviously set the bar very high so you might not feel the same way, but fuck do I care.

Also, I HIGHLY recommend reading the reddit Post-Episode Discussions after most episodes. In a way it's kind of like doing homework, but it's sooo worth it. Some of the things I've read on there had me, again, gasping. I'll put one such example (there's a couple of dozen, at least) in the spoiler below, it's in regards to S02E08 I think.

e: just to reiterate: SPOILER. Do not read unless you watched that episode.

Like at this point my neighbours have to think I'm crazy, though that ship has probably long sailed, because of how much I shouted at the screen in the last couple of episodes. It is, in fact, that good.

I'm gonna start watching S3 momentarily. I hope they don't fuck this up. This show is so weird in that regard because I feel like they are one bad writing choice away from jumping the shark.

The White Lotus

Season 1 was a fun watch, but season 2 is absolutely nothing like the first one

I didn't like the second season that much, I missed the silliness that was the first season

Starting season 3 today!

I was planning to watch Season 3 of The White Lotus, but since it's not fully out yet, I guess I'll watch this instead since it's also on HBO Max!

Went back and watching 'His Dark Materials' on iPlayer. Its actually been quite good although the last season is a bit up and down but I'm rooting for them to nail the landing.

What time is it?
I started watching The Sopranos for the umpteenth time. The first two seasons flew by but the first few episodes of season 3 feel like complete filler.

I'm on episode 2 of Adolescence on Netflix.
It's about a 13 year old boy accused of killing a schoolmate.
Good stuff so far, they got that continuous shot thing which also occured in the movie 1917.

It was co written by and also co stars the great Stephen Graham.

Just finished this, episode 3 man that young boy has the acting chops. Rare for a British kid.

Great show.

I dropped The Leftovers at episode 8

Too many poorly written characters making increasingly ridiculous decisions. I’m amazed the town is still intact with all these idiots living here :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I thought the quality dropped after episode 3 (Two Boats and a Helicopter). Episode 3 was great fucking television, the guy who played the priest stole the show

Episode 3 summary:

"Two Boats and a Helicopter" shifts perspective to focus on the character of Matt Jamison, an Episcopalian priest causing controversy around the town of Mapleton following the Sudden Departure. The episode follows Matt in his ordeal to save his church from an impending foreclosure.

Keep going Season 2 is amazing.

Edit :Just realised I posted the same advice just a bit further up the page, however point stands.

I saw a three episode documentary on HBO called "Love Has Won".

It's about "Mother God", a woman who is an alcoholic who sits on her ass and drinks vodka and do drugs. Her cult members make her food and collects tributes from nutcases online. She thinks she is god and speaks to Robin Williams. Mother God eventually gets sick from being an alcoholic and starts to drink some silver shit drink that she chugs everyday until she turns blue and dies.

The cult members hides her blue corpse and keeps her in their house and waits for aliens and Robin Williams to pick her up. Unfortunately, the cops come first.

If anyone has seen Xfiles remastered in 1080p, it is amazing

I still need to get the Complete DVD/Blu-ray Boxset. I wonder if they include the newer seasons released in the late 2010s?

Buffy needs this treatment badly. I can’t think of any show from this era that needs it more than Buffy. I believe it Disney cleaned up Buffy, and let a new generation check it out.

I watched the first two Seasons of Buffy and I haven't started on the third season yet. What I watched I really liked though

Xfiles “complete” is on iTunes. It is the remastered Blu-ray version. It is excellent.

There are articles out there that will tell you the two most important tv shows in 1999 were Sopranos and Buffy. Everyone thinks of Whedon, but if you look deeper, the writers room went on to help create 24 and possibly Gilmore Girls. They had quite the team at the time.

Loved S1 back then, probably the best season i've seen since Lost S1, so i was very anxious for S2, which was a pretty long wait.

S2 was a good watch, but not nearly as good as S1 though, with way too much emphasis on the weirdness and self indulgency.
What was a little "weird and goofy" but still artsy and inspired the first time, comes of as forced and cheesy this time around. Hit and miss character developmnent, and too much redundancy, in what could have been a 6 or 7 episodes season at most.

The explanation of Mark's work was interesting, but they could have done more with it, make it more impactful.
The Inny vs Outty dynamic was the best bit, and the ending, the outcome, was thought provoking.

My question is:
If it’s all about Mark then what were they doing at the company in the years before he arrived?

The leftovers is anything but poorly written.

Stick with it and all that damn mess will make sense, and then some.

Still, Leftovers is one of, if not the biggest TV dissapointment i ever had.

It is well worth the watch, it has an absolutely gorgeous soundtrack and some of the most poignant moments you'll ever see in a film.
Entering the interdimensional Bubble is one of the most intense moments ever in a TV show.
But the
last 30 minutes of the very last episode are just a cop-out, pinfully uninspired and completelly killing the great story and high expectations.

Planing mischievous plans.

I mean, it's not perfectly clear if Mark did it all in those 2 years or if there were others before. Also it's not clear why exactly were Mark and Gemma special. They obviously needed someone that suffered tragedy, him losing her and she losing the pregnancy, but there would be too many people like that, or even better suited, so it kinda undermines their aura of uniqueness. I wished they'd explore this, much deeper, or at least some more.
