LTTP: Tomb Raider (2013)

I think I've received free copies of this game on my xbox, PS and PC more times than I can count but I finally gave it a go while waiting for Atomfall to drop

for some reason I thought this was a remake of the original Tomb Raider game. it isn't. it's an origin story for Laura Craft apparently.

what does everyone think of this game? I'm about to finish and have found it a fairly fun ride. combat and exploration is fun, although at times it does feel like a poor man's version of Uncharted.

I do think it is a bit hilarious that she goes from sheltered, innocent, naive, inexperienced, vulnerable young woman into a hardened, skillful survivor and hardcore murderer within about 2 mins. it literally happens over the course of a single cut scene.

what other Tomb Raider games are worth playing? where does this fall quality wise compared to the others? I've only played the original game on ps1 and this one.

What time is it?

Especially funny considering how much the marketing pushed this narrative angle.

The game is fine, but also strange considering it's a reaction to Uncharted which was obviously inspired by Tomb Raider, amongst others, in the first place.

Nice game, enjoyed the varied combat, be it stealth with Lara's bow or silencer pistol or all out bullet hell. Rise of the Tomb Raider however took everything good about the reboot and perfected it. It's a much, much better game and is probably the second best Tomb Raider title behind the 1996 original.

I wish they'd done more with that.

It's a good game, though. The sequel is pretty good, too.

I thought it was great, good pacing too; you're not just endlessly mowing through bullet sponges or mindlessly climbing shit waiting to get to the next cutscene like a similar franchise.

I never finished it. I don't remember if anything annoyed me or if I stopped to play something else and just never had the motivation to go back.

Maybe after I finish 1-3 Remastered I will be tempted to try modern Lara again.

I think it’s the weakest of the trilogy. Rise of the Tomb Raider is the best by far. Lots of secret areas, collectibles, upgrades, and weapons. It almost feels like a metroid game with how you can return to areas with different abilities to open up new parts of the map. The exploration and tomb raiding is great. Shadow I think was made by a different team. It feels the least polished of the bunch (from what I played of it.)

Rise of the Tomb Raider is a fantastic game, by far the best of the new trilogy.
