It's too late, it would set a precedent. However i am sure they took note and I expect only the next mainline Zelda to reach Mario Kart's price. Other games will be like DK or below

Preorder prices are already 60€ and 70€, so that's 20/30 less than the 90€ they announced. They don't have to do anything.
Where did they even announce $90/€? I saw 70 and 80.

No way, the most probable scenario is that the rest of the industry will soon follow what Nintendo did, not the opposite lol

The best win for us as a consumers regardless of what we play on is to not normalize yet another jump in gaming prices. Jacking the price up for more a game that will sell stupid bonkers amounts is such a trash move on what should be an otherwise fantastic system seller.

The one thing that surprised me was the price of the digital versions being lower than the physical games. This of course should be the case as the price for the cart, case, production and shipping etc are Zero, In the past the inflated price of digiital games was to protect the retailers. Now with this new model going forward you have to wonder if this will not force retailers to reduce things a little, You can see Nintendo want everyone to go digital as it pretty much closes the second hand market down.

World economics dictate they likely won't backtrack, also the fact they aren't competing in the hardware sector means they can do what they want let Microsoft and Sony sort their problems out between themselves..

Is the pricing even official in the US? I'm pero sure NoA hasn't show official numbers.

Anyway, they deserve it, not because of prices themselves but for leaving the subject completely unanswered for so many days, WTH were they thinking? It's such a dumb think to do they can only blame themselves.
Target sent out a blast today for the app specifically for Switch 2 pricing details. You can look it up now with Mario Kart World being $80 for the standard game. The Switch 2 Edition of Breath of the Wild, a game available on the WiiU and Switch, is priced at $70... they're official.

they knows nothing clirkbait for there crud chanel

Well, I've never seen a video of theirs so I couldn't say from experience xD

They have to have a 3DS launch disaster for that to happen and that ain't happening. Even then I don't know if that would impact the price of the games themselves.

Despite the massive flood of complaints they'll sell well enough though imo. I'd love for people to prove me wrong so Nintendo course corrects.

And that's just it: most of the complaints aren't genuine. We know how the internet works these days; there are mountains of people who exist simply to troll and others who only exist to ride viral trends online, be they positive or negative.

Then you have the fanboy component; there are definitely a lot of Xbox diehards hopping on the hate train, because they perceive the Switch 2 as a threat to the Xbox handheld(s). You have PCMR (but mainly, Steam fanboys) hopping on the hate train because they view Switch 2 as competition to Steam Deck. And you even have some of the more extreme PlayStation fans on that hate train because they feel a weak Switch 2 in Japan means more Japanese market share for PS5, not to mention a poor-performing Switch 2 means more room for the rumored next-gen PlayStation portable.

That's three communities of warriors banding together alongside general trolls to lambast almost everything about the Switch 2. But the thing is, MOST of them aren't even Nintendo customers! Most of them either don't play Nintendo games or are only light casual fans at best. So, what does it necessarily matter if they're the ones mostly complaining, especially if most of those complaints aren't legitimate?

They won't backtrack on Mario Karts's pricing. But they'll probably walk back on Welcome Tour being a paid release. Really the problem is that Nintendo needs to come clean and actually give us answers. Somebody needs to really grill them on this during their shareholders meeting next month. Surely they know they backlash they're getting online ATM. They need to say something about this.

This is also complete nonsense. Reggie actually pushed NCL to include Wii Sports for free in the US, to which they eventually agreed after initially declining. The people who say "NOA doesn't do anything" have no idea what they're talking about.

I might've been mistaken then, I'll admit as such. But, when I mentioned that, I was mainly referring to late-era Wii/into Wii U.

But hey, maybe I I've been misunderstanding that dynamic and if so, I'll make sure to remember such going forward.

I'll be getting the Mario Kart World physical €90 version :( . The amount of storage on Switch 2 is so stingy, I do not want a tenth of it gone on the first day if I bought the digital version. So I'll be paying €50 more than everyone else on launch day.

This situation makes me feel like a chump.

I'm waiting till SanDisk bring out a 1tb microSD express before I do any digital purchases.

Nintendo has taken off its mask and is in arrogant, anti-consumer mode and as greedy as possible, so why would it do so when console reservations are going so well? In the US, $80 for an MKV is already expensive, but in Europe, €90 is a rip-off.

some people are equating this debacle to the Xbox one.

this bad dawg, this is is very bad

It's not XBO levels of bad, because last I remember the Switch 2 direct was still 100% about games.

A lot of this is ragebait, because it's trendy to be mad about the prices. But a lot of people reacting so passionately to the news aren't even being genuine, it's just a fun bit/character for them to play on the internet.

is not only about the prices.

It's the DRM, lack of innovation, remasters and the consequences to the overall industry

This guy doesn't even play Nintendo games 😂 He just wants the clicks of this… Annoying as fuck.
that's the point homie.

i think none Nintendo players will be more than fine Nintendo charging $100 for their low poly baby games. 😝

but it's the impact of Nintendo's pricing for the rest of the industry.

No, they won't. Capitulation is not an option.

I would charge even more. People who still buy Pokemon with those graphics deserve to pay 100 usd at least.

What Nintendo should do is announce the $80 pricing BUT also say expansion packs are free the first 2 years or whatever. That would be easier to swallow. Same with any $80 title they announce.

I think it'd take a bit more than what's happen to get them to act on it. I don't see them ever budging personally, especially so fast.

It wouldn't be that bad if each game actually saves on the cartridge like the N64 or they should have had 1TB on their memory cause what idiot only has 256gb on a 2025 console. I know it's all greed but still very stupid and scammy, at least 500GB would have been more fair even if it's still a bit too little.

Let's hope they're right. Can't see it myself, but would be good if they did. Parents (and probably most other people) won't want to be forking out £74.99 for games, it's just fucking stupid.

If they don't backtrack then fine, but I'll be buying maybe 1 or 2 games a year max. That'll be preowned too.
Yep, pre-owned games 1 year later except for pack in MKW. Unless kids want to spend their gift $$$ on a particular game.

You can see this here, you have prices for various shops for the Switch 2 products (France).

When you have 4 or 5 of the biggest sellers putting the Switch 2 at 439, Donkey at 59 and MK at 69, you can be sure that everybody will at least align to these prices in the end. And these prices include tax in France.
That's actually damn reasonable all things considered. Here in Freedom Land there 0 chance of that happening especially with Liberarion Day shenanigans. 🤬

I don't vote, but I assume they can rethink the pricing strategy, if they feel it does too much damage to their reputation.

I don't ppl here throwing around anti-consumer. So every company is anti-consumer because it wants to make money? Nintendo can charge what ever they want, that doesn't make them anti-consumer. Sure maybe some other stuff, but pricing for games is in their purview.

They're not going to lower prices unless it affects sales. It doesn't matter that people are mad about the price if they go out and buy the game anyway.
So most likely they will wait and see before considering lowering the price.

Nope. They're using this as a test the same way they used TOTK as a test for $70 games. If it meets projections or exceeds them they will use the $80 price point for most "premium" Switch2 games, if it somehow under performs dramatically, they'll reserve it for the new Zelda and a couple other games here and there.
