South of Midnight is one of the weakest Game Pass release on Steam ever with only 1500 players

Nah I'm good. Plenty of other games I'd rather spend my time and money on.

Game is great, stop jerking off to steam numbers

These threads suck. Go find me game pass player counts
You kind of just have to ignore them. It's weird to use steam to reference a game that is part of a subscription service, but fanboys gonna fanboy. The game is fun so far, but I'm only on chapter 3. It's the first game I've played where I'm not spamming the skip button during the cut scenes. Story is actually interesting. Combat is a little janky.

Why are we still using Steam numbers to gauge how well a game that's available for "free" on game pass is doing?

Having said that, I really hope Xbox has a conversation with Compulsion instead of pulling another Tango Gameworks here. The general consensus for their games always boils down to "good story, good environments, good atmosphere, bad gameplay".

Which is a big fucking problem.

Why would they make a game where the mc has a face only a mother could love ?

Shame the arts look pretty interesting .
Yeah some of the western game company purposely make their characters ugly when it makes way more sense to make the character either as good as their RL version or even better as I'm sure nobody would mind the devs making the character even better than their RL counterpart. Now since they purposely make the character ugly and when fans don't like the character, certain journalist could go "see they don't like the character cause they're racist!" when in reality people just don't like the character cause of it being either ugly or have a crappy personality etc and nothing to do with the race. Appearance are important too cause it's good to actually make a decent looking/cool character and setting/location to first get people interested than have a actual interesting story, gameplay, setting, content to get people to invest and stay. It's kinda like the whole came for this but stay for the rest kind of thing. I actually do want them to make a good black female character cause we got some cool black male characters already where as they mostly try to purposely make black female characters bad like that wolfenstein and this game among others. There are great black female game characters like fortune, Storm from Rivals, Alyx, Sheva but could also use more.

I said before I'm not sure if this game is woke/shitty since I haven't seen any at first glance but now that you bought this up then yeah definitely don't feel bad for them and well deserved flop.

So what? It's just a low budget game in a sea of mid games out now. Why, specifically, is this game getting so much hate here?

Because of the SBI connection, and the fact that it's Xbox Game Studios. We generally expect the platform holders to make higher than average quality titles.

It's a good game, that could have been so much better. Hopefully it gets a sequel thst fixes some of the core issues. Mainly repetition and combat.

With the amount of games that release and the amount in my backlog, you can't have lackluster gameplay/enemies.
and if you do have lackluster gameplay it at least has to be unique and different, slitterhead and deadly premonition come to mind.
Mediocre games with mediocre gameplay are not worth my time anymore.

I think people need to get use to MS putting out gamepass games for gamepass.

It's gonna be more that type of game than your big-budget AAA gears or halo, forza types which will remain a staple but release every 3 or 4 years.

The disnification of gaming was always the end goal and I said as much in all the Actiblizz sales threads.

The idea is just content, as long as you have a constant stream of content then that's all they care about.
The Netflix model. 90% of it is shite, once in a blue moon something actually worth watching comes out.

I think the game industry unironically needs a chud consultant group. It's just Itagaki and Yoko Taro telling pink haired San Franciscans to make the girls tits bigger on Zoom calls for 400k. Left to their own devices the western AAA industry would rather make flops that lecture us about leftist talking points.

You know exactly why.

-It's an Xbox/Gamepass game. - according to everyone here that means instant DOA. Because its on gamepass or its on Xbox.

-It is a new IP w/ a black protagonist, who is also female- instantly it's gotta be a DEI induced story.

-SBI- was involved, and there was some story about how they "race swapped" the character - because apparently only white people were affected in the history of the Southern United States, so switching to african american themes just reeks of DEI, because it's just just low hanging fruit. All the reviews agree that the story is quite good, but hey SBI was involved, this is unacceptable for everyone here.

- The main character's voice/motion actor and the character model are not identical and the game model doesnt conform to what ever racial or body type some gaf user has expected in their heads for what a black cell-shaded, stop motion animation character model is supposed to looks like; even though many voice actors have played characters of different color, race, body, time, etc; and that is no longer good for make believe on a video game.

It's a bad game. Could be a decent movie, but as a game it is just plain bad. There is an option to turn of combat and chase scenes so even the devs know what's up.

Any developer that goes out of their way to confirm their generalised hatred of white male gamers can fuck right off, no matter the reason or platform.

Because it's an Xbox game, and because it was touched by SBI. Some are also saying it's "woke" and "DEI", I guess because there's a black protagonist in a story that's clearly about and inspired by a fictional Louisiana-like town's backwaters and deep south folklore. Where did the thing about them "race swapping the protagonist" come from? Lmao.

From what I've heard, the game has no racist moments from SBI.
From what I know, it doesn't. SBI was consulted to help with story development and character and cultural consultation. Compulsion Games were the devs and the main drivers behind this game. But all the negativity being aimed at this is solely because of SBI's involvement and their team.

Compulsion Games really isn't known for making outstanding games though, so, it was only ever going to be a fine/average game and nothing more. Not that it's a bad thing per se.

I've played through the entire thing, there is nothing racist or woke in it. But you have to remember, you're talking to griftees who have been conditioned to believe any woman or minority character is a woke element.
Im a culture war knight, riding the war train with my sworn drawn pointing forward, and from what ive seen from the game itself, there is nothing that is overtly offensive. It captures my curiosity. Though, i appreciate the art style, i feel like ill have a seizure if i stare too long lol.

I am a racist for not wanting to touch this game with a ten foot pole? Then I guess I'm not the only racist since this game bombed hard. :p

I mean, if that's the reason you don't want to touch it, yeah, that does sound pretty racist.

I'm not interested either, but for other reasons.

This game doesn't necessarily look bad it just looks like generic Xbox slop. I'm all for exploring the mythology of the American Deep South, a place rooted in awesome history and folklore, and part of that is an exploration and focus on black characters. True Detective is set here, or I think of the Dylan song, "Blind Willie McTell" as another example of something that utilizes the setting perfectly.

All of that is well and good, and I'm deeply interesting in new, unique stories in games. I've had enough fantasy/sci-fi slop to last me several lifetimes. The issue is that is just doesn't seem like an interesting exploration of that at all. Just because you focus on a different topic doesn't mean it's good.
