Do I have a problem? Steam Deck/Steam game buying trend

Here's a list of games I've bought since August 2024

Since I got my Deck. No idea how many this is. Probably over 100. Most are from key sites like CD Keys. Some from various others and sales on Steam etc

Only have a paltry 722 Steam games (doesn't count GOG and other platforms like consoles)

Can you still afford your bills?

If you can, then who cares, right?

But yes, you do have a problem. Out of all the problems you could have, though, this isn't that bad.

Bills come first lol 😂 so yeah. 👍

But it's just beyond wild how hoarding up cheap digital copies of games are. It's mind boggling

Also. Not every game I have Is "amazing". But I FEEL most… of my games, it's a game I'm interested in playing. Not just junk

overwhelming majority of my guys were on deep deep discounts. Key sites. Sales. I do not pay full price
Good man. Same.

I'm not doing that bad actually:

I've quite the insanely large library as well from bundles from humble but Fanatical really hooks me.
Big fan of fanatical. Some of their bundles are nice. Some suck. But they have some great ones at times. CDkeys is kinda my goto for individual games

But I'll always cross check GG.Deals for the best value

You do you OP, buy whatever you want while you can afford it. Maybe in the future you'll go poor and have to live on the streets and look back to your life and wonder if you couldn't have bought more.

Damn. So I'm an outlier. Does it help 99.99% of these purchases were super steep discounts. Many even sub $5?
That's really the only way I buy anything on Steam. I also don't think you're all that much of an outlier, I'd say it's relatively typical behavior for Steam users, just quantity varies on funds typically available at any given time.

You're missing out if you don't use key sites. Legit ones that is. Majority of mine comes from that. Steam has nice sales many times. But no where near like 10+ years ago.

If you're not actually playing them it's a waste of money since you could likely getting them for cheaper in the future.

If you're playing them then no problem.

I'm constantly buying Steam keys and I know it's going to be forever before I play the games. I'll get in a mood and buy a handful and never play them.

Did you perhaps automate the process of getting all the free games on Steam? I've read that's apparently a thing

If not, impressive library
I can't name 5000 games lol 😂 I'd imagine many are JUNK

No judgment on my end. But been buying off Steam since around 2006. Only have 722 games. Feels tiny now

That's very frequent game purchasing, but they look like a lot of older titles, so you're probably buying them during sales and for cheap. In which case, grow that backlog like the rest of us.

That's the thing, and why PC gaming is so good. Being able to buy something like Far Cry 4 for $4.99 is a no brainer if there's even the most remote of chances you'll boot it up some day.

When does your support group get together? lol
Yep. It's exactly why PC gaming is amazing. Key sites and sales are beyond belief at times. Genuinely amazing. Consoles have SHIT SHIT sales. Always shit

That and some double dipping

Had already played and beat cyberpunk and Witcher 3 etc

Wanted them on native steam. Not GOG or console

Etc

I have a few free games, but not all of them. This is at least 95% games I own / paid for.

You are buying from key sites and sales and you are still paying your bills. I love how everyone uses the Steam Deck so many different ways. A friend of mine uses his as an exclusive emulation machine and even uses the Nintendo Online controllers and Wii Remotes for the authentic experience but using texture packs. I use it mainly as a remote play/cloud gaming handheld device for my Xbox. Another friend uses it as a Windows 11 machine. Enjoy the games!

Bills first. Games LAST.

I don't know, I see it as a hobby, Gotta Catch them all.* There is a small rush from youthful memories of getting a good deal on a video game. I live on a limited budget and still feel the need like people with scratch cards to like at least spend 30-50 euros a month on games. Because browsing the keysites for like a combo of This cool game for 5, one for 10 that has a high meta critic, another for 8 that helps you complete a collection, and than getting two really retro for 1-3 euros. That's how I shop and the shopping process is part of the fun. Like collecting cards or people who gamble. You're trying to beat the house. But the house always wins because you buying games you may never boot.

*All means games you heard in passing were good and you should play, or wanted to play at any point in your life.

PS: I kinda feel bad for you, EPIC games gave so many of your purchases away for free. And I enjoy having them but don't play them. I understand fully however the itch of "I wonder how this runs on steamdeck, it should run really well in theory therefore I should buy it and confirm".

Won't do epic. Nope. 👎 it's a no go.

If you're playing the games and can afford your bills, you're fine. Otherwise, yes, it's a bad decision.
Bills are paid. Games are last on my spending agenda. Always have been. I'd never buy a game and then can't pay a bill. Doesn't happen. Not in any alternate universe either

And this, dear GAFers, is the devaluation of games.

If you've paid a decent price for a game, you're more likely to look into it before buying, and then value it more if you do buy it.
