Predicts the worst decade for Sony starting 2022
I get that everyone has different tastes—what some people rave about, others can't stand. But honestly, looking at this year's lineup, I haven't seen a single game that I actually want to buy. Nothing's caught my interest at all. As a PC gamer, I won't be seeing GTA VI until 2027, and the Switch 2 went from being a big deal to a complete letdown in my book. Maybe I'm just being a pessimist, and maybe there are some great releases coming in 2025, but so far, there's nothing I'm excited to play. The only potential exception is Hades II, but even then, I'm still on the fence.

Dumb And Dumber GIF

Between Microsoft games hitting PS5 (Indy, Forza, Doom, etc) to Switch 2 releasing with three big games this year (MKW, DK, MP4), to Death Stranding 2, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Marathon, Ghost of Yotei, and finally GTA6 (if not delayed)…and tons of stuff already released …uhhh, yeah….2025 is looking lit 🔥

Probably missing a bunch of late year unannounced stuff too

Maybe. I might be forgetting something but from what's announced:

none of that is my kink. But then again, I've already bought Civ VII.

Expedition 33
MGS3 Delta
Doom Dark Ages
Hell is Us
Terminator 2
Crimson Desert
Mafia The Old Country

Probs a few more too!!

There's plenty of stuff coming 🤷🏻

On the contrary I might be buying some day one releases for the first time in a long time.

Nightreign
Marathon
GTA V

The only reason I'm not buying a day one Switch 2 with Mario Kart and Donkey Kong is because I'd feel tight on my lad who's saved up for one but is getting it for Christmas.

I'm looking forward to The Precinct and Death Stranding 2: Right near de beeeech, boyyyEEEE.

Other than that, nothing else has lingered in my mind but Killer Bean and Little Devil Inside, except I don't know if I'll ever get to actually play those.

Hell is Us
Doom
Mafia
Ghost of Yotei assuming that's coming this year

That's about it for what I'm truly interested in right now. Expedition 33 might make the list. Only reason it's not is because of the turn based combat.

I have the opposite problem.
I just don't have the time to play all the things that are being released and I want to play without increasing my backlog.
In 2025 I've already bought:

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
Monster Hunter Wilds
Tomb Raider 2nd Collection
Assassin's Creed Shadows
Indiana Jones

Other 2025 must buy:
Onimusha 2 Remaster
Oblivion Remaster
Death Stranding 2
Mafia The Old Country
GTA6
Ghost of Yotei
Metal Gear Solid Delta

Wait and see:
Mindseye
Ninja Gaiden 4
Lost Soul Aside

+ all the games that are still unannounced...marketing cycles have drastically shortened we still don't know the holiday 2025 lineup.

Borderlands 4
Doom The Dark Ages
Metal Gear Solid Delta
Death Stranding 2
Oblivion Remastered
GTA VI if done right, I don't care if it fails

We're desperate for great western games. Unless you didn't get your priorities mixed up I don't understand the camp.

Why do people on Gaf still play games?

Most regulars seem to have idealized the old days to the point that they've seemingly ruined gaming completely for themselves.

Mindboggling, tbh. Maybe it's just time to move on?

Haven't bought much this year and not planning to buy anything in the distant future either. I'm gonna spend a couple of years now trying to get through my backlog once and for all.

In general I know I want and have wishlisted more games than titles I can remember.

And Switch 2 will mess up my economy, already want Mario Kart, Metroid, Donkey Kong and the Zelda upgrades and is very interested in Cyberpunk and Elden Ring depending on how they run, plus Silksong and probably a couple of other smaller games.

Then comes the Oblivion remake, which as usual with Bethesda RPGs I want in Steam even though I get them for free on Gamepass. Might start off trying through GP just to see if it's a buggy mess before purchasing.

And PC version of Stellar Blade is coming out soon.

Plus many more but I've forgot the titles.

He'll yeah.
Bought ac shadows which is great.
Next lost soul aside.
Death stranding 2
Oblivion(if ps5)
Msg remake
Grand casual 6

Then we will see

Already bought Civ7 and MH Wilds.

Still planning on buying Death Stranding 2, Marathon and something else (Doom, Hell Is Us, Yotei or …)

Gonna skip GTA6, it will be hot garbage.

I only buy games after a minimum of 6 to 12 months for all the perfomance upgrades + bug corrections + discounts ... I dont pay to beta test games, so pretty much anything releasing this year will be a 26 purchase. If anything interests me, and so far nothing did.

Ooof.
What a hobbyb supporting good soul you are.
You continue to be miserable….

Seriously. If you think games launch so broken as to avoid games to want to play because you think you are beta testing…. It's time to find a new hobby. I find games to be very well optimised and almost bug free recently. Certainly nothing that requires waiting for months for studio to close and only after that you can buy their game for 10$
If you like a game, buy it on release and support it.

Yeah man, support the hobby by buying broken games, so we can get more broken games.

Even ac shadows…. Ubisoft game. Is extremely well polished.
You behave like if every new game is broken Like trespasser in release

I didnt buy anything through 2024 so have bought a load of stuff to catch up on this year from last year (and before).

Nothing really grabbing me this year, was interested in Doom but not so sure anymore.

Money well spent. Fantastic game. I had great 35 hours with it + more.
But you wouldn't know a good game if it shit in your face. You guys hating on good games like that have a very very rudimentary surface level of game judgement. Ugabuga asmongold said it's bad!!! Ugabuga black woman!!!

Unfortunately your taste in games comes from the same "brain" that is judging how complete/bugfree the games are ... so I'll pass on your advice on how to spend my money. Thanks.

I have already bought a few games this year and more to come, starting with Lunar 1+2 this week and Clair Obscur next week. I will probably top out at 10-20 games by the end of the year.

I don't even know how to make time for all of these games. I've already put an ungodly number of hours into MHW, i still have Metaphor and Space Marine 2 to go through, and then there's Ninja Gaiden 4, Oblivion Remake, MGS Delta and Deliverance 2 lol

Was going to get the new DOOM in May but, after that presentation I think I'll pass...

As for the rest of 2025, I'm absolutely gonna get :

- Death stranding 2
- Ninja Gaiden 4
- Ninja Gaiden Rage bound
- Crimson Desert (IF it releases this year)

Maybe :
- New 2D Shinobi
- MGS Delta
- Indiana Jones (if it drops in price)

OP expected to find fellow cynics but the reality is that most gamers are eating well right now. It seems that especially PC gamers are in the dumps and it's probably because PC gamers consume the most anti-gaming media on the internet (youtube, twitch, twitter) and why so few PC gamers actually buy brand new games. Spending big money on rigs surely doesn't help.

I'm looking forward to Ghost of Yotei, Clair Obscur and there is a chance I'll take a look at Metal Gear Solid Delta. At some point I'll pick up Suikoden and Lunar Remastered Collection and maybe even Onimusha 2 Remastered. I'll be buying my nephew Silksong. That's just the stuff we know about.

Edit: Shinobi is also on my radar.

i just bought a ps4 cod infinite warfare on a yardsale for 2,50 euro and im enjoying it on my ps5pro. amazing how that game holds up graphically as its a game from 2016, (ps4 boost cleans it up a little too ) and the single player is a blast, anyways, moral of this story, play some old shit until new stuff arrives or put all your time in monster hunter wilds. we have such a 3th worlds problems as gamers...

I buy lots of games every year, and 2025 is no different, especially with the Switch 2 launching in just a couple of months.

I'm actually heading over to a pick-up point near me to collect this Switch game I've recently ordered, and next week I should be getting the physical deluxe versions of GRIS and NEVA.

Of course, too many bangers coming out for me to sleep on them.

Indy, Forza, Death Stranding, Lost Soul Aside, Mafia, MGS3 Delta and Hell is Us.

Time Gal last month

Lunar this month

Best year in years for me

That Time Gal game is basically a Dragon's Lair - type QTE fest, correct ?

PS: I remember watching the anime in the 80s on the telly and I'd buy it purely for nostalgia reasons but that "gameplay"...nope

Will I? Yeah, Marvel invasion, Ninja Gaiden 2D game and Terminator 2D are on my radar. Alot of the bigger stuff I wait until they're discounted, and the Nintendo Switch 2 for a bunch of reasons feels like something I can hold off on for this year. Frankly I've got more than enough to play on Steam and last year was spent tackling alot of my backlog.
