totally torn here re: which game to play next

want a game where I can lose myself in the world and spend +40 hours exploring

narrowed it down to Death Stranding and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

I'm only somewhat familiar with each game, but both sound like things that are potentially up my alley

thank u

DS even though I never played it.

Heart of Chernobyl is still not finished.

Are you going to play death stranding 2?

I would try DS1, though you may burn out back to back
depends, my understanding is that people are all over the place when it comes to Death Stranding

if I end up loving it though, I will definitely play DS2. will likely play it at a later time if DS1 ends up taking me +40 hours to beat so I don't burn out

Death Stranding's world is certainly one you can get lost in that can be barren by design with a more dynamic way affect it. Downside is it's gameplay loop is an acquired taste. Haven't played the other, but I'd give a nod for DS.

I almost feel like DS2 could be a ToTK situation where the sequel makes the first game irrelevant to a certain degree.

Maybe just buy DS2? I'm sure there will be a recap story video

didn't they release remastered versions recently as a trilogy? are those still a buggy mess?
Oh, sorry, I thought you meant the most recent one.

Never played DS, but Shadow of Chernobyl is good stuff, especially with mods. Very different games though and you must like the oppressive, strange, and horrific atmosphere of STALKER. The game can be very spooky at times.

Death Stranding is a fedex simulator - weird, atmospheric, interesting, fascinating, but still a fedex simulator. I finished it, enjoyed it, but wished it was about something else than delivering packages.

STALKER is a shooter with RPG elements set around Chernobyl and Pripyat. It is extremely atmospheric. I consider it better, more interesting game than DS, even if its story is nowhere near as cinematic and batshit crazy.

Play both, order doesn't really matter.

they re-using a lot of the same environment? or are we expecting significant gameplay improvements?

I agree with the ToTK comment as I haven't touched BOTW since ToTK came out.

all I know about the game is that it is a "walking simulator" which actually seems pretty chill to me

Death stranding is a solid third person game, the combat is boring but the gameplay is steady.

The environments are actually all new and greatly expanded in Death Stranding 2.

I guess what I'm getting at is the GAMEPLAY in DS2 looks to be significantly better than DS1 in terms of traversal options and combat, and there's probably going to be less early game SLOG as a result.

The first 10 hours in DS1 is just getting to the basics and it's very slow, but it pays off in the end. I feel like DS2 will be high octane from the start in terms of gameplay.

And it's a massive game - so like 100 hours potentially in DS1....I just don't know if I could do two games like that back to back. Imagine playing BOTW and TOTK back to back

Don't get me confused though, Death Stranding 1 is worth playing and it's probably my favorite game from the PS4 era.

you aren't making this decision easy

is DS2 even getting a PC release right away? if not, it might make sense to play DS1 now as I'll be forced to take a break anywho given that I don't own a PS5

STALKER.

If you've never played DS1 and are interested in it cause of the sequel, just youtube the scenes. Playing the first one fully so close to the sequel will make you feel the burn and churn. It's ... not exactly the most fun 'playing' game.

Not Death Stranding. The writing is so inane and pretentious and REALLY tires to come off as something deep and profound. I can understand why some people would enjoy the gameplay - I like Elite Dangerous BECAUSE it's super chill but I hated pretty much every part about DS.

Dragon's Dogma 1 is great and usually dirt cheap, like less than 5€. Fun game with some light RPG stuff but it's mostly about fighting things and exploring the world. Has the best combat of any open-world RPG.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R Trilogy isn't the most accessible type of FPS but if you dig the mysterious, creepy world, you may like.

DS ended up being a torture to play. 0 interest in playing DS2 and i used to be a Kojima fanatic.

I have only tried Stalker, but its way more hardcore experience. Game doesn't explain a lot of mechanics. I dropped it cause I wasn't aware how shooting works in that game.

DS I haven't tried. I can enjoy walking sims from time to time but they need to be 10 hrs, not 50.
