Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ≼| OT |≽ La Belle Fantaisie

Just started the game, well, not even started, I've just been sitting on the title screen and getting entranced by the damn OST. I can already tell, without having even pressed a button yet, that the screenshot above is incredibly apt.

50 people made this game, btw.

Different battle themes per locale/biome.
Love that shit in games, nice.

More modern JRPGs should adopt the SMT formula of having 15+ battle themes in the game. It breaks the monotony and it can be quite kino when one you've never heard drops out of nowhere.

Uploaded some of these crazy 11 minute perfect no-hit run videos (for my own documentation! But might as well post them here).

Certain optional bosses AND CHARACTER spoilers! BEWARE!

Ah, I put dolby uprising on yesterday to try it and it messed up my audio sync. Doing much better now. Game is pretty great

I can confirm that the fix I posted above unlocks the in-engine cutscenes frame rate, and also fixes the FOV issues in ultrawide!

It says it unlocks a dev console, wonder what can be done with that...
Excellent, thanks for posting and testing! I've gotta take a break for now but I'm definitely using this when I can play again since the cutscene framerate cap was one of the few gripes I had. Great game so far.

I liked the intro. Feels like people with actual relationships, bonds and feelings.
Yep, I for one was quite drawn in emotionally by the intro, from the acting, to the OST, and the emotions on the character's faces. Saying that a game is, "GOTY bait", is a little silly.

I doubt Sandfall were thinking of going for the video game Oscar whilst making their first game. All we're seeing here is passionate experts of their craft.

EDIT: Also, Gustave's theme might be my favorite thus far. This game's soundtrack is a masterpiece.

When you finally think the game has given you all the mechanics available, they slamdunk another one at you!

I'M ALREADY KIND OF OVERWHELMED GAME, STAAAAAAAHP :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Bought it.
I think this is only like the third game I've bought at launch this gen but I really wanted to support this studio.

Probably won't have time to play it until Saturday night though

Without spoiling the game, may I ask how many hours to finish the game and does it has multiple endings and hidden sidequest?

30

The team size at Sandfall is 30

Many of them are expats from Ubisoft so we know where all the talented devs from that company went now

Prologue lays some great hooks, they should make it available as a free demo.
I'm curious to see where this goes. As others have stated, the music is a nice surprise.

So the prologue's ending kind of slammed me, and harder than I thought it would. Probably the most human interactions and reactions to a tragedy that I've seen in a recent game, despite the sheer mysticism of the world. Absolutely gut-punching.

Even the lead up to the ending was giving me those anxious butterflies.

I ended up playing the game with tokens exclusively, basically Darkest Dungeons 2. I went all in DMG glass cannon, 1 health — but with a shit ton of shield tokens (6+) so I could take up to 6 attacks per character. The amazing upside to this is that getting hit and getting these shield tokens removed doesn't count as damage so every battle, I'm racking up those 20% extra XP rewards for taking no damage. Also, as if that's not good enough? I never, ever have to heal. Potions are useless and so are healing spells. You thought I was finished? NOPE. Since everyone is at 1hp, I can proc every single one of those "below 50% traits" including the ridiculous ones that say "when less than 10% health left…"-traits.

I am dealing 9999 dmg with regular non-ability attacks. On expert. I think I broke the game..

Edit: I'm not kidding when I say glass canon btw. I've never spent a single point in anything besides MIGHT.

3 hours flew by. Cant wait to play this all day tomorrow. Incredible game. Seriously if you dont like turn based combat, still give this a try. Its an amazing combat system

signed on for a month of gp, & gave this a shot first thing. clair obscur does a lot of things well, but no way i'm parry/dodging my way through a turn-based rpg. next stop, avowed...

Still need to finish AC Shadows before I jump in so going to avoid this OT and everything until then. Excited to play it, will be back when I'm through with at least half of it.

Man this game is fucking incredible, gorgeous... Just awesome. These large studios need to be ashamed of themselves when a small 30 man team pulled this off.

It reminds me of how good lost odyssey was, this game is a gem... Im so happy to see a turn based game of this caliber getting praise and exposure, I love it 💪

This game proves again that you don't need 2000+ people to make an awesome game. I like these kind of AA games a lot and I'll definitely play it, hearing just the first 10 seconds of the ign review told me it'll have an awesome OST and I'm just a sucker for great OSTs.

only the clunky title can stop this game sales....but i do not even know if we should consider those since it is free on gamepass for 2/3 of it's audience.

great catch by MS by the way

Just got through the prologue, game is legit so far. Incredible how 30 people pulled this off.

Sorry oblivion remastered, you're on ice.

This fix helps removing a bit of the sharpening from the image. It's worth a try for people bothered by the extra sharpness.

Also, there is a new version of ClairObscurFix. It adds a couple of stuff (like removing intro logos). It seems to remove the pillarboxing by default so you might want to disable that in case.

First of all, I fuck. So... Combat is turned based, kind of like a cross between Final Fantasy X and Paper Mario, with the style of Persona. If you didn't like Octopath because of the turn based battles, you probably won't like this either.

Man that prologue. Haven't been hit in the feels like that since PlayStation went to shit
What is it about the prologue that's got people so emotional? I assumed since the number 34 was written on a rock right at the start, and the girl said she was 33 and that's also the name of the game, she was doomed to die. I walked around with her for a few minutes, then she turned into petals. It didn't seem like a surprise.

Great game so far, though. I have no idea what I'm doing but I'm enjoying it anyway.

Its sense of dread and hopelessness, it kind of feeling I got when I first played Nier Gestalt on PS3.
