OH LA LA. 🇫🇷😗🤌🏻

Clair Obscur is probably the best Metacritic User Reviewed Score EVER. 😎

Please MS don't buy this studio. We're fine with you giving them many bags of money in exchange for total independence from outside interference so they can grow the team and make another legendary RPG FOR YOU, not WITH YOU, even bigger and better. 🫰🏻🫰🏻🫰🏻🫰🏻🤨

These guys all left Ubisoft to found their little studio, I don't see them voluntarily deciding to become enslaved to yet another megacorp that only makes soulless AAAA slop games on a factory line

If it weren't for KCD2, this would be my GOTY. Near-total surprise how good this is.

And how did a core team of just 33 people make this?!?! People keep saying "it's not AAA". Could've fooled me.

This game really is special!

I believe I'm still at the beginning of Act 1 (found "the Manor"), but everything just oozes charm. I can't believe a small team made this. Bravo!

Man the graphics look insane sometimes, I really like the art style

Glass Cannon is the way to play this game since you have parry and Dodge, puting all my points on mighty and melting everything omw, i just hit for 2k on the second map.

But how to survive being Glass Cannon ? be perfect or go home.

There's some pictos that help with the glass cannon approach,
I have one that is "take 50% less damage but you can't heal"

I think I might have overlevelled.

Spent a few hours trying out different builds and I'm likely 10 or so levels higher than necessary.

Does anyone know if the bosses scale?

That's a key pictos. I've added it to all my characters through luminos points.

You can also use 'sweet kill' but it's less reliable.

The buzz around this game seems really good but I really can't be arsed with what are essentially QTEs in my turn based games. The only game I gave that mechanic a pass to are the the Mario RPGs and even then I felt it was a chore all the way.

There is no QTEs in this game. You have no cues on when to press the instructed buttons to trigger something. I wish people would actually know what QTEs are.

There is attack boosts, dodges and parries based on perfect timing, just like in an action game.

Someone was asking if the game had some sort of money dump somewhere… is this answer enough? 🤣

Semantics. Alot of people would say parries or dodges are something you do when you're actively controlling a character and QTEs are something where it's the only thing you can do.

One thing i dont like is not having manual saves. Yeah copy Dark Souls all you like but if it plays like a traditional rpg have a traditional save system.

It's not semantics though.

You can design builds around parry and dodge. It forces you to focus on attack patterns and learn the timing of the fight. It's gameplay and strategy.

It's not a case of pressing X to watch Spider-Man fly though a window.

Uhh all the attacks do have button prompts with cues when to press them. The game itself even calls them QTEs:

And God of War has bonuses tied to doing QTE based executions. It's semantics. But really, no need to pile on me for this. I'm not deriding the game, it's fully on me that I don't like doing anything active in a primarily turn-based game.

I guess that settles that LOL

I got out of the first area and into the overworld but I'm still unable to use certain items in my inventory (there's one that looks like a consumable to increase lumina and another to upgrade weapons).

Am I doing something wrong or do I just need to keep playing further in the story to unlock a new gameplay mechanic?

Keep playing

I like how this game doesn't throw swear word after swear word (well except for merde of course lol) just to be cool and edgy, or sex jokes/scenes. Instead it knows when to be serious and when to be light hearted. Really love that.
It has such a natural flow to the language.

Just stopping in to say this is truly fantastic.

This is the style of rpg, mature themes, dialog, art style that I always thought I was playing I was 13 playing those snes rpgs in the 90s.

This is the gaming future I thought we would get.

So, playing on expert difficulty. So far so good, but the timing of attacks can be tricky and the window for perfect dodge isn't very wide. Vitality or Defense don't seem particularly useful because you get annihilated in a few hits anyway. Should I focus on speed and damage and try to perfect dodges/counters? It seems every attack is avoidable/parryable.

my "good not great" opinion on this is improving vastly with playtime, they really did a great job on combat, its turn-based and addictively dynamic at the same time.
writing rises over most of the juvenile shit you are used to in gaming too.

Anybody else feeling a bit overwhelmed with the amount of pictos and abilities? Abilities at least should be cut in half IMO.

Can you come back to the first overworld map later on or are you locked out of it by progressing?
I'm still in the first act, but I've already found a spot after progressing to the second part of the world map that has a switch you throw that creates a bridge to the first part of the world map. I believe later you also get some sort of worldwide traversal (think airship ala Final Fantasy) to take you back to whatever part of the map you want.

Thanks, but these seem to be end-game builds, no? I haven't found those Pictos yet.

Doubly so when it comes to JRPGs, which heavily influenced this.
I found them along the way, some are end game yes but most of them aren't!

Just got Monoco. What a cool fucking character for gameplay design compared to the rest of the cast. Blue mage fans are in for a treat!
