Dan leaving Giant Bomb?

Used to love GB and would watch their content religiously but they fell off very fast after Dan Ryckert left and the fact they seperated into GB East and West. After Jeff left the site was basically dead and they went even harder on the DEI stuff. I'm amazed that it has still survived for this long.

There it is.

Can't wait for kinda funny to die next. I don't know what it is but that Tim gettys guy is all kinds of awful.

I really like Dan, but the rest of Giant Bomb is hard to listen to, so I don't. Dan's Friday streams are really good, and the games he plays usually match what I played when I was younger, so I enjoy watching him.

I listened to them on and off through the years, but then they got really political in the first Trump presidency and I just got sick of hearing it. I imagine they have been having a field day lately with how things are going in the world. If I'm listening to a gaming podcast, I don't want to hear about politics.

I occasionally tune in and none of them disagree on anything politically ever. 100% alignment on anything that can be constructed as political. What are the odds?

I stopped listening during COVID (shortly before all the big exits) because they all seemed miserable all the time, were barely playing games and the switch to remote really killed the chemistry and content quality.

After all the fandom stuff I've tuned into the bombcast a handful of times. I've always liked Dan so him being back brings a good energy. The show is not what it used to be but this new incarnation is actually better than most of the tail-end of the "old era".

Totally agree, this kinda stuff always annoys me about gaming content. It's honestly not even the fact that political content is being brought up, it's just the matter of fact way that they all act like their opinion is the one right perspective and they all agree on it without nuance. Yes, I get it, "fuck ICE" and all that but if I wanted political punditry there are thousands of other more qualified people out there doing that already. MinnMax is the same way sometimes but I can give them a bit of a pass since they're at least in Minneapolis where I imagine that saga was pretty inescapable.

didn't they like prop up the likes of Alyssa Mercante though and have those cringe streams where she shouts at people to fight her and stuff.

I just assume it died after doing stuff like that.

without the OG crew what is even the point of GB
Alyssa Morecunty was from Kotaku I think.

Yep. The same Alyssa Morecunty that threatened to beat the asses of her detractors and then immediately cowered out after being taken up on the offer.

I didn't really follow Giant Bomb that much after Ryan Davis passed away.

Largely because over time it felt like the podcast was them talking about more random stuff in their lives, and complaining about games more than finding new cool stuff to talk about. Throw in politics, and I'd rather just find games on youtube or play demos on Steam to see what is still great about the hobby.
