Where do you live and which country would you like to live in?

I know there are two other threads but they are nearly a decade old.

I currently live in a small town on a lake in Ontario Canada. I absolutely love the people here and there's so much to do it's incredible. I'm happy to live in my town but currently hate the state of my country.

Where I would like to live.

I applied for my Australian visa a year ago but my English wasn't good enough to get the immigration points required. It sucks because I was really looking forward to it. If I could move to a country it would probably be South Korea. Absolutely loved my time there. Here are a few pics I took.

I live in Sweden, I do enjoy my time here it's a great country to live in. The Nordic countries are high up in the list whenever you see those charts which countries are happiest/content.
I'm just longing for something different, most of all I want to escape the winters where daylight time is so low.

I'd like to live in either Singapore or New Zealand, Singapore is great since it's a big hub in Asia where lots of flights connect. Which would make it easier to get flights across Asia whenever I want to go for a trip. Problem is, it's very expensive to live in Singapore.
New Zealand is probably the one I would go with, helps that it's an English speaking country which would make forming human connections easier than Singapore (even though I'm sure they are proficient in English). Maybe someday I'll move there.

Barcelona, Spain

It's fine here but some things make it feel third world.

I would like to go back to live in South Florida, the climate, nature and wildlife among other things make me feel great living there.

Born, raised, and currently reside in Tulsa Oklahoma. I didn't appreciate it growing up, but now that I'm married with kids, it's been great to raise them in an area that's inexpensive. I've been able to buy a good size house in the suburbs, save money, live comfortably, etc. For the quiet lifestyle we live, a more expensive place would just be more expensive.

I like to travel and see different places when I can, but I like coming home where it's quiet. 25 years from now I'm planning to retire on a warm beach somewhere. We've been to the panhandle of Florida several times and that seems like a nice spot, but I'm open to other options. I just like being near the ocean.

I'm from Mexico and I definitely wouldn't go to another country.
I'd imagine it would be hard to leave essentially paradise…

I'm in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, home of the worlds greatest hockey team.

It's great here. Good people. Beautiful countryside. We have great neighbours in the states (current issues aside). No real worries.

I'd highly recommend anyone think to visit Alberta to do so and spend some time in Banff or Jasper, especially Jasper as they could use the support after burning down last year but are back up and at it. It's an amazing experience if you spend some time out there.

I could see myself moving to a place with more sun and beaches like the Caribbean. I've always found the people there to be amazing.

A place like a Ranch in Montana would also be amazing.

I'm a very poorly traveled person so all of the things of the world amaze me when I see them

Edmonton is one of my favourite big cities in Canada after Montreal. It's beautiful and friendly people all around.

I grew up in Joplin MO, not far from Tulsa. I also hated it growing up, but I actually really struggled with raising kids there. My daughter has autism, and the schools there weren't accommodating at all, and even the teachers would bully her. We moved her to a private school, which in the midwest means Christian school, and she was kicked out for refusing to recite the prayers. She also got in trouble a lot for asking questions about the Bible. Meanwhile, our house got hit by three different tornados in the span of a year, so...

In my mid-30s I packed up my family and moved to a small town in Oregon. It's had its own set of challenges, like the pandemic lockdowns here lasting for nearly four years while everything was closed, but I can't deny it's been a great place to raise my kids. My daughter is almost 30 now, and she met her husband in high school where they dated for a long time before finally making things official. My son, who was a bit socially awkward growing up made good friends here, and now we can't go anywhere around town without him bumping into someone he knows. To them, this is home and "where they grew up".

Lately my wife and I have been looking at how we can move to Japan. We both speak pretty good Japanese but would need a lot more practice to get by in daily life. Also, I have a pretty good job here with short hours, so it'd suck to go from that to the Japanese-typical 90+ hour work week. We would honestly love to retire there, but they don't have a retirement visa and they already have problems struggling to take care of their already aging population. I guess we'll have to be content with just traveling there on tourists visas a couple of months out of the year.

I'm in Canada, specifically Toronto. I always thought about cashing out and retiring early in Thailand or Vietnam or some other sunny low cost place. I'm married now though, and my wife's work is very Canada-based, and somewhat mine as well. I think what's more likely is we leave for a smaller town in Ontario or go to AB, BC, or the Maritimes, and then travel someplace sunny and new for 2 to 3 months over winter. Spain could also work for retirement too, but I would need to look more seriously into what it entails.

Live in the US, love it, right now im in Texas, considering a move to the Pacific Northwest at some point, but the job and money are super good here at the moment.

If I were to move to another country though, it would be Switzerland. Just so gorgeous and friendly.

Jasper is gorgeous, and Banff as well. During Covid I got a chance to visit both during March/April. I especially loved the drive between them. Seeing the iconic blue shade of water frozen waterfalls is beautiful. I need to go back in the summer at some point.

Sometimes in the winter I think it must be nice to be closer to the Equator but I wouldn't leave the UK.

It sucks when its dark by 4pm though, never take a holiday here between November and February.

I love where I live, Sydney Australia, but I would also love to live almost anywhere in Japan. Maybe I will retire there.

My partner is Japanese and she hates Sydney, she wishes she was back in Tokyo. Unfortunately I couldn't get the same salary over there so I'm stuck here till retirement.

So you mean your English is worse than this bloke?

Yes, I actually speak to Brisbane folks nearly daily on X spaces in a small Aussie/Canada culture exchange group. I love their accents. To be fair I speak old Norman which is spoken by a few hundred people at most. So my French suck my English suck and people are confused. People think I'm German when I speak English.

I'm in Airdrie, Alberta, Canada, a small satellite city just north of Calgary (born and raised in Calgary). I like it here and wouldn't envision living in any other country, though when I retire I'd like to go somewhere a little less busy or maybe with better weather. Will depend what my kids do with their lives, if they're all still around and getting married / having their own kids I don't think we'll want to move far away.

The way it's heading you might not even have to move to live in another country.

I'd like to live in Auckland, NZ. Probably about as far away as I could get from this godforsaken UK I find myself in.

UK here, the wife and I was living in a mini hell hole. Full of drug dealing, knife crime with a touch of murder every now and again. A complete turd town just outside of London thats getting worse by the day..

The last day in the turd house~

We moved to Bath in the west country late last year, which is considerably better, the views five minutes from the house were a tad nicer..~

I honestly don't think I could move again. In the 18 years we've been together we've moved around six times.

It's just nice to not hear sirens every five seconds and actually be able to see the stars properly.

That looks lovely. I used to live in the city centre, pandemic I decided to move the the country side. Best decision ever made, I had miss small town community feeling. No more trans prostitute when I look through my window. Now it's beautiful swans (though they're effing attacking people)

I'm currently in California; I want to move to somewhere in Nevada.

Wait wait waittttt...

Do they charge double, due to the 50/50 ratio? :pie_thinking:

I jest :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Yeah you can't beat an escape to the countryside, I was never really a city dweller personally. A friend used to live in London, utter chaos. Not for me.

Austria

But I really want to live in Ireland.
It rains all year and it's green and I love the music and there are more sheep than people. Also Cider!

From USA, I've lived in Asia and Europe.

Until I retire I want to live in the USA. When I retire, Greece countryside.

Bath is a lovely city. I had family who lived there so I've visited it a bunch of times.

I was born in New Brunswick and if you like nature it's paradise for hunting, fishing etc. though taxes are high compared to Ontario. Upper Ontario is great too. For my this is my forever house, I have every service on a walkable scale.

I'm also in Edmonton, though I disagree on calling here "paradise" after growing up in B.C.. The River Valley is nice but we need more mountains for paradise IMHO and that's where I'd go back to if I could over moving to another country.
Though if I'm required to choose another country, I'd pick Netherlands. Which is honestly more of a dart board choice since there are so many great countries in Europe to chose from.

Aussie born and bred and I'm surprised you couldn't get in. We're full of Indians and asians who can't speak English.

I think I'd rather still live here but I really enjoyed America when I visited.

I was referring to Mexico lol. It's pretty nice down there.

I'd agree on the mountains too. The wife and I dream of buying a ranch tucked away in the mountains one day.

I live in the US. If I were to move anywhere, I would say Hide-takayama in Japan, or maybe Nagano area. My other place I would want to live would be Squamish, BC. I want away from people and more nature.

It's ok to make jokes but they are supposed to be fun… although I guess everything about the canucks is easy to laugh at.
Lol yeah I could barely type that realizing the irony. If the canucks won anything this season it would have been a Nighttime Emmy Award for best new soap opera...

Honestly, they aren't that bad. I'm just bitter from a few years ago. Canucks got some great players. I was rooting for the Sedins to get a cup.

Honestly, I don't hate any team in the league. Maybe a few players, like stupid Tom Wilson, but I wish they were on my team haha

One day it will be one country!! The idea of countries is kinda interesting. I bet there's a civilization out there in the solar system that did away with "countries"

From México , been in other countries but there is not a better place than being here. So much diversity and places to enjoy.

Used to live in Madrid but since a few years ago I'm back at my small hometown in the lands of Don Quijote.

A bit boring, but also comfy. Got a house for pennies and I'm living quite comfortably while also saving money.
