Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

it's not about the price, it's about Nintendo's service literally being a worse product than Retroarch and Dolphin.

Nintendo's emulation is often worse than that of PC Emulators.

pay to play Mario 64 at 30fps... or install the PC recomp and run it at 60+ fps and widescreen?
pay for Nintendo's crappy compilation... or play Mario Sunshine at 60fps through Dolphin?

I have a PC with shortcut to SM64 PC port on my desktop.

I still prefer to play it on my Switch. Deal with it. I can put it to sleep, put it away and put it on my TV without even thinking about it. Without interrupting whatever my PC is doing.

well, I have a Steam Deck that can do all of that as well + run Mario 64 and Sunshine at 60fps lol.

also, I think Mario 64 was even ported to android already. but I haven't checked that port out yet... should also run at 60fps tho lol.

NSO is just awful, and it remains awful even with the added GC games.
Deal with it.

The Steam Deck is a very nice piece of kit. I really wanted one but decided to wait for ver 2. Never happened and given that it's aging and I already have Steam on PC, I just kind of let it go and focused on Switch instead.

I use a hacked Switch for all that stuff. I will only be subbing again for online play. The convenience of all the online games and features is gravy till the thing is hacked. They added online play for the NSO games, which I'll be using for Mario Strikers GC. Without being added to the service, my friend that played the game way back would not have even brought it up. I'm better off just playing it on the same thing the rest of the world will be playing on than talking him into netplay on Dolphin instead. The point, after all, is to have fun with games.

It will be interesting to see the quality of GameCube emulation on Switch 2, but things like Eternal Darkness REALLY struggle on the Deck. Hopefully it is good as I'm excited about playing Soul Caliber 2 and F-Zero GX online.

Okay please give me good arguments to not buy a Switch 2 Pro controller, cause I really want one

The Switch Pro Controller works on Switch 2 so I'm just going to wait for a themed Switch 2 Pro Controller before diving in. I'd also wait to see if the d-pad has improved.

It has its charm, I finally played and finished Super Mario Bros 3 on it, and I understand why some people consider it to be the best 2D Mario, it's absolutely fantastic

You know what, I said YOLO and fuck it, I'm ordering a Killswitch to act as my case and improve ergonomics while in handheld mode.

Switch pro controller is backwards compatible. That said, it has a headphone jack and back buttons so I'm in for one.

I dunno, $50 a year just to play peer to peer connection that probably isn't going to run well (even Smash's native online feature didn't run well over wifi on just two Switches) hardly seems worth it. Then you have the added bandwidth consumption from their new GameChat voicechat feature.

Wish they did more with this. Phantasy Star Online with official servers from SEGA, that would be something exciting, honorable and worth the membership to me even though it's available on PC with unofficial servers. I can't justify the cost for p2p server netplay rentals for a game I'll play a handful of times. Your friend could download Parsec on a potato and have a better experience if you hosted Dolphin on gaming PC.

Snap!

The other thing playing Super Mario Bros. 3 to completion on NSO taught me was that 80s gamer skills were a different class.

Thank god for the save states. 😝

50/year is $4.20 a month (lol) for all of the NSO features, including the upgrade packs. And then, I can just see someone online on my friends list, and the game works without having to set anything up (for everybody).

They should bring PSO back as a public service but I don't think they would because they want PSO 2 MTX money. I think they see PSO 1 as dated and don't want people returning to it (there's no money in it). Honestly I am too tired of the game to play anymore. Been playing since DC. Ran it into the ground on PC fan servers. I tried it again after a hiatus and felt like I had a lobotomy staring at the screen. I wonder what my total hours are on all platforms. Outstanding game that I just sucked dry of every ounce it had lol. Then again, if I could play it on a lightweight handheld, while watching TV...NO, NO

for most games these days you don't have to set up anything special anymore on Retroarch.

I literally once just launched retroarch because I was bored, browsed the online lobbies, saw someone wants to play Alien vs Predator (the arcade game), and with a single button press I joined him and we played a few levels together.

this also works with Mega Drive, SNES, and most 8/16 bit systems.

NSO is absolutely horrible.

No way to remove to ugly borders on the side with a profile icon? How in the world is that a nice user experience and why aren't more people complaining about stuff like that.

They like looking at useless clutter?

You know boys, the thing that gets on my tits is that the switch 2, like all the other consoles (since these are closed systems were talking about) is gonna have the same exact problem with older games, meaning, we're still gonna be at the mercy of the devs/publishers in that those 30fps games ain't gonna magically start working at 60fps...
Yes, a select few (the big hitters) like Zelda, Mario etc will receive a "next gen" patch but...what about smaller titles like, say, Demon X machina, Astral chain and others ? It's a s friggin' shame since Astral Chain especially would look glorious at 60fps and at a better res than the shitty one it runs at right now...
Demon X machina runs like shite which the Switch 2 will most probably up it to a steady 30fps but, 30 ain't 60.
Heck, what about Hyrule warriors AOC ? that's one of the shittiest running games I've ever seen running on the switch, we're talking about CONSTANT drops to 22fps (cinemaaaatiiiccc®), the game is basically a stutter-athon and i don't think that it'll receive a 60fps patch/update since muhfuggas are gonna want and sell us HW Age of imprisonment (which thankfully enough will run at 60fps).

I'll have to connect the SW2 to my shitty, 5 years old LG LED 'cause those 30fps games, on an OLED (also have one of those for my PS5) ain't gonna be a good experience due to the typical OLED judder.

I am going to hack the shit out of Switch 2 when it's viable. The least I can do is buy some games and toss 'em $4.20 a month for the honeymoon phase. I'm going to try out all the features of the system with friends who are also excited about it. It isn't that serious. When the hype dies down, I'll be an edgelord with a laptop by myself again.

OK let me see how many of these I can sell before Thursday

j/k - this is not my photo lol

He said what he said get over it.
You haven't tried NSO on S2 yet so don't know if it's improved or not.
Who cares about the failed Steam Deck?
This thread isn't about it.

That's one of the advantages of PC+Deck. That along with game prices is why I'll mainly be using Switch 2 for Nintendo exclusives and doing everything else on Steam.

Yeah, its opensource avaible for any os. Same with zelda and starfox and more to come (running native not emulated).

That said, retro handhelds are way better for these things as my steamdeck. Its btw also possible on a retroid pocket (which runs android) to use winlator for playing pc games. It even can run gta 5

What grips we going with? I think ill stick with naked until I see some reviews, Killswitch is nice but I think the skull and co could be the way to go, I have both for my steam deck and ally but Ill be honest I don't love the killswitch, it feels snug and premium but adds bezels and the Skull And Co feels al little flimsy.

I'm waiting and stick to naked in the beginning, too.
I had a skull and co one for the original switch which I really liked, but for switch2 it looks quite different, so I wanted to read opinions of other users before buying.

So, all the doom and gloom about the day one patch to play games and it's not required for actual Switch 2 games, just for Switch 1 games and some OS features...

It is not doom and gloom, it is a concern. Best way to sort it is for Nintendo Switch 2 units sold say next month or so not to need it as this version of the OS is pre installed.

A concern? Really?

Considering the switch 1 back compatibility is software anyway I'm not sure what you expect here. Switch 2 games on switch 2 hardware don't require patch. As predicted weeks ago.

Good, that's what I was thinking when I first read it. Then I don't have to try to boot it offline just to test this.

Guys, I need a switch 2 cover that :

- is detachable (i.e, you can remove the joycons)
- Fits inside the dock
- Has a cutout for the stand
- Is made out of silicone and NOT TPU (hard plastic)

I've been searching Amazon like mad and unfortunately, it's "either or" since the dockable ones that also have a stand cutout are made out of TPU and the silicone ones are either a 1 piece affair (can't remove the joycons), or, they don't have a cutout for the stand...

It shouldn't be this hard FFS, besides, I'd be willing to spend a little bit more for something like, say, Spigen but even those look like they're shit quality judging by the reviews (they're made of cheap, thin hard plastic).

Any suggestions ?
