I just checked out N4G and that site is dying.
The hottest news article has just 26 comments.

I don't know where people go these days outside of GAF.

Sure, go for it. It's good for getting news like that since people will start posting as soon as a story breaks.

There's no harm in giving it a try. With something like Twitter I think you shape your experience with who you follow. So yeh there's some shitty people on there but you can avoid a lot of the shiftiness based on who you are following.
 
Don't use Twitter, nor any other social media app, it became the worst thing about humankind, aka people ewriting the thoughts they have on their toilet. Nobody should see these. And then people might use the random thought you put 5 years ago while bored on the same (or different) toilet to blame you or even get you fired. It starts as a terrible idea, and only get worse.

It's good for some news though, but they are reported everywhere, so not really super important not to miss.
 
I get all my gaming news from Gaf. <3
Only go on X to fuel my hate.
To instagram to fuel my insecurity.
To TikTok for new OF content.
Facebook to troll my dad with AI pictures.
LinkedIn to watch each and everyone say that they are the best.
And on Second Life to cry.
 
Use RSS feeds from all sorts of news sources.

Stay off as much social media as possible, it really is brain rot.

There are millions of people on Twitter. Are there some weirdos? Sure, same as there are on any platform of a decent size. But, in my experience, it's easy enough to avoid them.
 
Just follow the things you like and stay on the following tab. "For you" will probably make you upset one way or another. My biggest complaint is that I can't separate what I follow into different categories without making another account. I might just go back to an RSS manager instead

Yeh Following is the way to go, not For You. That way it's far more focused on what you want to see rather than what it thinks you would want to see.

For different categories you could try the Lists feature. I don't use it myself but I believe it allows you to do that.

I don't use social media, but I'd use Bluesky in a heartbeat over anything giving money and influence directly to that plastic face ketamine freak.

I use inoreader to aggregate news and interest. But that is normally from media that is dying, You could use it to follow specific twitter feeds as well.

But Twitter does have news faster.

If you know how to filter users, it's one of the best platforms for staying informed. I personally don't even use Reddit anymore to follow news about games and hardware, it's either on X or here on GAF.
 
It's not a satisfying place for discussions. In that regard reddit is far superior as you can easily see each thread of discussion and jump in if you want to. X.com is a complete mystery at times. I just wish Elon would buy reddit too and restore it to its original glory as Aaron Swartz intended.
 
Twitter is great for following smaller game makers and finding out about upcoming games while seeing how they are created.

If you are interested in Japanese video games it is also great with the translate feature. Many legendary Japanese developers post there frequently and you can find out about the past of arcade video games and such easily there. A wholesome experience for me.

There is also very weird social media culture on Twitter which baffles me. People forming "gangs" fighting each others in their tweets etc. Wacky shit! I'd suggest staying away from such activity.

No, use no social media. Never got a social media, YouTube, the Facebook, or whatever is trending today. My iPhone besides preload has this webpage and Navy Fed.

And going by the screaming people all around the US and on the internet, screaming into their cameras constantly, i got lucky.
