Switch 2 version
4k resolution upscaled from 1440p
60fps (more stable than switch version)

So why is this a free upgrade while the Zelda games aren't? Mario is an equally big game. They even share the engine (albeit most likely modified).

Because now we have the Zelda Notes "app". Please pay up.

Zelda does have increased draw distance, which lots of people haven't noticed.

Same.
(Mainly because I get the zelda upgrades for free.)
I dont have Nintendo online and I REALLY liked Kirby The Forgotten Land when i played on my original Switch.

With upgrade not only improves frame rate and resolution but also giving brand new content.

and double the framerate, going from 30 to 60.

But arguably its more about popularity since zelda sold over 30m copies.

Frankly I'm surprised they arent charging for the pokemon upgrades, shit went from 640p/12fps to 4k/60fps

I'm sorry, but Nintendo charging one game for a res and fps update and the other not is not really consumer friendly imo.

Any upgrades that are just visuals only/gameshare are free. Any upgrades that have extras, such as the ($10) Zelda BotW/TotK notes app/item sharing or bigger like ($20) DLC in Kirby/Mario Party are paid.

That I agree with that it requires those upgrades in order to get the res/fps upgrade? Not really, but honestly I'm favorable to this than everything being paid like it could be.

nice upgrade

daughter started playing it recently and my first thought was "this looks terrible".
Recently booted it up for a bit on a 4k TV and yeah, it's pretty iffy on it. I originally played it on a 1080p TV which looked fine. This will be an awesome upgrade. I'm going to restart the game for sure.

1440p upscaled to 4K. Which will look better than 1440p native.

every game you play on a 4K screen gets upscaled to 4k, unless you play it in a small window with a black border around it... there's no word on any reconstruction happening (which isn't the same as upscaling) so this is just 1440p it seems

This is the game I am most excited about playing on my Switch 2 tomorrow. :messenger_beaming:

I'll likely load this up, install the update and play it before Mario Kart World. Looks so good now. I think this game is incredible and one of Nintendo finest game to date and always wanted an excuse to revisit the game with better image quality. The original game looks fine on the handheld but it doesn't look great on my 55" LG OLED TV, mostly because of the low resolution and complete lack of any anti-aliasing.

As someone who prefers to play games on a TV rather than a handheld, all I really want from Switch 2 is for the games to look decent on a 4K display.

DLSS4 magic
I think there's no DLSS on any Switch 1 enhanced game, unless they already implemented some sort of TAA which I don't think most Nintendo games did at all, not any of the enhanced ones at least, because they'd have to implement motion vectors just for that, so my assumption has always been that they are just running them natively as a quick job and calling it a day. Also, I'm pretty sure they can run at 4K just right but they preferred to keep a locked 60 fps experience rather than trying to optimize for the hiccups.

I mean it looks way better but I'm also glad this wasn't a paid upgrade and I think we can see why. It was a quick and dirty upgrade which I'm perfectly okay with, especially when it's free. I already beat the game and got about 80% of the moons so I'm good. Now if Nintendo had achievements, I might be more interesting in spending my time getting everything but as it stands? Na I'm good lol. I would rather play 3D World + Bowsers Fury since I skipped it on Switch 1.

Looks better than PS5 Astrobot.
Hmm. It looks good but I don't see that. I've run Odyssey at true 4K/60. I would still have to give it to Astro bot. But Odyssey, doesn't look bad for a game going on what almost 8 years with a higher render rate. I think for what it's worth and a free upgrade people should be pleased.

SOOOOO... I tried pixel counting (youtube video quality is not great for that, so it's not easy), and at one spot at 8:46 I found an easy to count edge...

and, uhm. maybe I am miscounting, but I am getting 1800p here

ruler of 30, 25 steps: 30/25 = 0.8333333333333333 * 2160 = 1800

could this be a dynamic resolution up to maybe 1800p?
that edge I counted seems to be pretty clean and the staristepping seems very obvious. so either I completely forgot how to do this or this is way higher than 1440p

EDIT: same 1800p results when looking at the New Donk City shot at 2:46. again 25 steps on a 30 pixel ruler.

there was another scene inside new donk city, where I only found an edge that was big enough to do a quick 15 ruler wide test, where I got 12 of 15, which would come out at 1728p, but a 15 pixel ruler on a 2160p image isn't really all that accurate. so that scene could also have been 1800p as 1728p is close enogh to estimate that given the other 2 results.

and generally speaking, some parts of this look like FSR1 is in use, as some edges seem "drawn over" so to speak. but that could also just be youtube compression doing whakey stuff.

EDIT2:
yeah, I won't spam more images, but every single time I try counting a somewhat countable edge in the video, I get 1800p. it's always 25 steps on a 30 ruler, or 12 steps on a 15 ruler.
but now I wonder how ElAnalistaDeBits got 1440p here. I miss VG Tech, because VG Tech always also had links to lossless uploads of the exact screenshots they used to count
