D.O.R.F. Update - New Lighting Engine

The long-awaited update video.

It's been quite a while, mostly due to having to throw out basically the entirety of the game's graphics and replace them with new sprite sheets that are compatible with the new lighting and shadowing system, but now that system is (mostly) set in stone. We'll try and go back to putting out semi-regular updates.

D.O.R.F. Real-Time Strategic Conflict is an RTS game for PC, currently in development, taking inspiration from classic RTS games of the 90's, while also expanding on the genre with new and innovative mechanics. The game will feature land, air and sea combat, and will have three unique factions to play as.

Apart from the shit name (Dorf means village in German), I've been keeping this on my radar, and I still don't know how to feel about the setting. But at least they took a fairly solid gameplay base (OpenRA) and decided to build on it.

Edit: You could kinda see it as a KKND spiritual successor.

We've completely overhauled unit movement, using a physics-based system that makes for far more dynamic action.

I don't know how D.O.R.F. is really going to turn out in the end, and I don't play RTS games very often, but I've been keeping a close eye on this for years and it looks cooler every time I see it.

I prefer the OG

The game looks brilliant. I was hoping the projectiles would also have impact physics so that explosions would fling nearby infantry around. I did notice that soldier corpses get thrown about when hit by ordnance, but I'd love to see that applied to live infantry as well - and ideally to vehicles too, so they shudder, get pushed, or are even tossed back or roll over under really violent explosions. Also digging the volumetric lightning.
