Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Give me impressions on Hitman when you can. If you have it on any other console also let me know so you can compare it to that. It would be cool to know how much space it takes up and how it looks and runs! Thanks <3
So after playing Mario Kart for a bit, I decided to boot up Hitman for you real quick. I'm a bit tired, so I didn't play much, but enough to get a first impression.

Visually I think it looks alright. Probably less detail than PS5, but on par with PS4. I'm not sure what the frame rate is, but it does feel a little inconsistent at times. Nothing game breaking or distracting, but just based on visual, I can't tell if it's doing 30 or unlocked and unstable.

I did run into a bit of a bug when first booting it up. During the first training mission, it started acting up completely where my gun would not do any damage to my target. After I killed him by breaking his neck instead, I couldn't exit the map, because the prompt wouldn't appear. Every attempt to load a save from this broken run caused the game to crash also. I had to restart the training mission, and it worked normal, but that particular run caused the code to go a little janky. Enough to consistently crash the game if i tried to load back into that instance.

The Switch 2 dock delivers much more power than the Switch 1 dock did. If they let you use the Switch 1 dock then you would be stuck playing in portable mode on a big screen.

Edit: Though I guess the Switch 1 in a Switch 2 dock could have worked in principle.
Yeah, I don't really care about putting the 2 in the 1 dock, I just want to be able to put my 1 in my 2 dock so I don't need to keep both docks out and connected since I'm out of available HDMI ports on my receiver

Fortunately, a simple plastic insert with a USB-C cable extension that attaches to the bottom of the 1 will make it fit into the 2 dock. Hopefully someone produces such a product

Bit the bullet and ordered one at Argos this morning. Will pick it up on Saturday to surprise my daughter along with Mario Kart World and ToTK. She's been mentioning the Switch 2 almost every evening after school the last week, so she's gonna go ape shit when we pick it up 😁
My wife like "you gonna buy another Switch ? But you already have one"
Just got mine. No pre order, I just walked into a store at the opening and it was fine (I live in Paris)

I expect the system to be sold out in a few hours over here tho, lots of people were queuing after me.

Can't wait to finally play BD and to replay one of my GOAT: Yakuza 0!

They were selling the consoles elsewhere in my store so I couldn't have a look to the games, I should go back

I tried Super Mario Odyssey and the visual quality improvement is insane. Simply increasing the resolution from the ~900p on Switch 1 to 4K on Switch 2 is incredible to behold. Too bad I don't have any reason to revisit that game sigh

Ready to drift?

Joycon 2 seems the same as Joycon 1 when opened:

This is a load of shit. My first (left) joy-con developed drift after 100 hours of gameplay and my lad's (left) joy-con the same. My Oled has never developed drift despite hundreds of hours but I'm assuming that's pure luck and not a redesign.

As long as the EU bully Nintendo in to free repairs beyond warranty it's not a complete disaster but why have they not just paid the extra few pence for the hall ones?

Se when I buy the switch one edition with a voucher, I can later on just buy the upgrade pack and play the switch 2 edition of a game right? For example with Kirby and the Forgotten World or SMP Jamboree?

The Switch 1 and 2 do not fit into each other's docks, but looking down into the docks and at the bottoms of the two consoles, it's clear that the difference is the two small indentations next to the USB-C ports are slightly different width

There is no reason for Nintendo to do this????

Why not let the Switch 1 fit into the Switch 2 dock and vice versa???

Why do I have to keep 2 docks side by side, and also use up 2 HDMI inputs instead of just 1?????

WHAT THE FUCK, NINTENDO?!?!??!

It should be trivial for some third party to produce a "dock adapter" that just changes the width of the indentations to make the Switch 1 and 2 fit in each other's docks
The two docks don't deliver power the same. SW2 dock outputs much more power and has a cooling fan for the system. The SW1 dock wouldn't output enough power and the SW2 would overheat in it

Well, they charge 90$ for a Pro Controller without analogue triggers and HAL.

They have got VRR for portable but not Docked.

Who even knows what the hell Nintendo is thinking.

They make so many weird decisions. Anti consumer decisions that favor their wallet.

I am still a sucker for physical games and it always makes me feel like a kid when I go to a store and see all these fancy boxes, especially for a console launch.

Same, and this is the first time I actually went to buy a brand new console in a store on day one, I feel rich

Happy launch day and congrats to all Switch 2 owners. Also congrats supporting low tech for high prices :) I also want to thank you for supporting the new standard prices of €/$80.
Enjoy :)
I swear gamers have goldfish tier memory. Returnal was already 80E in 2021 and for some reason adjusting to the current pricing is Nintendo's fault.

Flashbacks to when we were kids, dreaming in front of these expensive games that we could not afford haha

Not working today and tomorrow, fiancée is away, time to be a nerd!

Apparently BoTW has noticeable drops in resolution down from 1440p? Would be curious to see an analysis on that.

Would definitely be disappointing of Nintendo just did a quick job on something like that.

Welp looks like I can't play any Switch 1 game as they are all virtual game carts loaded into my Switch 1, I guess I'll try buy a Switch 2 game instead, but don't know which one

Apparently if you skip the Switch 1 transfer on startup you have to factory reset to get it back.
Why would anyone skip the account and game save transfers though?

Change your Switch 2 to your "primary console" and that should work.

I have two switches at home and I'm not sure of which one to use for the transfer. I could see myself saying "eh, later" and just setting it up as new

All set up and enjoying MKW whilst the rest downloads and yes I got the Piranha Plant Camera cause why not

So far I like it, transferred my old stuff fine and now I have a OLED switch that I may let my son have for a bit

As for games, there really isn't much else aside for MKW for me, I've played the rest elsewhere and unlike when I did for the switch 1 the novelty of having random portable games isn't there, I did consider grabbing Yakuza 0 just to have a physical game but I can wait, I have Zelda EoW and Paper Mario still to play from the last console

Low tech for high prices? Can you name a single handheld as powerful or has the same features for the same price? The closest is the Steam Deck LCD and that comes with no dock or the ability to disconnect the controllers. It also has worse battery life, worse performance, and a worse screen.

The new game prices are shit, I agree on that.

I thought the transfer would... you know.... transfer my data, but it's just the savegames and settings? So now I have to download dozens of games and the servers are fucky

I got the regular Switch 2 box when I ordered the MK bundle. Got a bit pissed off due to that but I see they have me the key on a separate paper that was included in the box. So for anyone that might panic, just check and you should have it included.
