Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Walmart delivered my switch at 6:08 a.m. this morning, pretty impressive honestly.

I felt something weird in the package that I definitely didn't order and thought that was kind of strange but wasn't able to check it until later today and I found a can of pizza flavored Pringles and a coca-cola. Anyone else get something like this with their order? Is this something they do often?

I decided to wait to open it until tomorrow so my daughter can experience opening the new system and all as much as I don't want to wait.

Also, strangely, the charge they made on Sunday was just a temporary charge and currently there is no charge on my account for the switch too. Weird that it's in my hand and they haven't charged me yet.

I don't have any software for it so that may be dampens the excitement a bit but at the very least can play the HD versions of Tears of the Kingdom and whatnot which she loves.

Yeah they also did that for me and some others who preordered from Wal-Mart. Drinking the Coke as I type this, lol. Pretty cool of them!

I thought the battery life would be better. I only played like 2 hours (or a little more) of mario kart before the low battery warning came on, and that was with a full charge. It's nice having a charge port on top and below though so you have a choice.
Kinda feels like a Switch Pro to me so far. I still really liking it though.

What's crazy is if I didn't have my OG Switch I guess I'd never be able to play my digital library on S2? Everytime I would try to load a game it told me I needed to update my original switch first. Literally could not play anything. Even when I just bought Fast Fusion. It wouldn't let me start that until I updated my S1.
I sold my Switch 1 a few years ago and the Switch 2 lets me redownload my old digital purchases no problem.

Yes. I got that too. It was pretty cool of them.

dumb question but does anyone notice the dock scratching the screen like the original switch? i recall the plastic bumpers doing that…

the Dock for Switch 2 is not as narrow. the opening is way wider, so you have less of a chance to directly rub it against the screen I think

Not sure why but I can't get the Switch 2 to output in 4K despite my Xbox being able to do it just fine. I'm using the cable that came in the box (wasn't getting HDR until I switched to that), have the system setting set to 4k but no indication as to why

EDIT: Ah nevermind, this is how I learn that only one of my TV's HDMI ports can output 4K. That's a bummer but at least I can play this stupid tiny Mario Bros demo

I know things can't be perfect but all console launches should be more like this going into the future, although who knows how many traditional consoles releases are left in the future
Agreed. It's refreshing to actually see enough stock to meet demand.

I could be wrong, because I kind of glossed over the fine print, but I don't remember being asked to make the Switch 2 my primary console and the eShop still seems to function on both my Switch 2 and OG Switch.
You're not wrong. Seems like Shaki12345 Shaki12345 is full of shit and shouldn't be taken seriously on anything. Just looked it up and you can access the eshop on a non-primary console.

Do you get a "checking if game can be played" pop up when you start a game on Switch 2?

screen is beutirful haters destoyed joycons armazing feel qualities

servers destoyed 3 hour download kart

Yeah, I don't think I'm actually going to get to play anything tonight, lol.

The system transfer process was relatively painless though, outside of having to individually cancel like two dozen downloads.

I'm too sleep deprived to give my overall impressions of the system, but the screen is, in fact, very nice, and snapping the joy-cons onto the system is extremely satisfying. So, weirdly, is "inserting" and "ejecting" virtual game cards. If nothing else, Nintendo has mastered ASMR this generation.

Hopefully the games will hold up to the experience of fiddling with the console. Too bad I probably won't get to find out until tomorrow.

We have so many where I live. 12 bestbuy with both the switch 2 and the bundle in stock. Anyone who tries to scalp will lose money badly. As expected, this shit cannot sell out in Canada at this price.

My confusion stemmed from the contradictory signs that are right next to each other. I didn't bother to find an employee to verify which was right.

Did anyone get Hitman and verify if we can play it offline with saves? I remember Hitman needs to be online for saves, no?

I don't get the feeling that a new system is releasing today... like the vibe is very muted?
Are nintendo fans feeling differently ?
its easy not to feel excited with anything these days cant blame ya

As for me I still have some hype in me, loving that console

Well this is fucking dumb. I'm trying to log in to my Nintendo account, but it's not sending me the email with the verification code. Anyone else having this issue? Can't get the Nintendo site to send me a "reset password" email, either.

Can you add a phone number to the account instead maybe? I think that's how I got my code.

Spent the vast bulk of the evening downloading games and trying a few out here and there. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with my purchase, and I'm going to love watching the walls melt when an Ocarina of Time remake gets announced. You know it's going to happen.

Wow, they really stepped up on the build quality. Even the joycons feel very sturdy now! Not at all as flimsy, plasticky and awkward to use 🙂

Super tight fit to the console as well for me.

The entire Switch 2 experience feels like it's just a Switch Pro.
Nothing looks, feels, or sounds like a new generation console. It just seems like updated hardware and software.

Mario Kart – nothing really impressive.
Zelda updates – I need to compare them with my old Switch, but the improvements aren't impactful enough to notice easily.

So far, I'm disappointed as F.

At least it's quiet.

Anyone else having trouble downloading MK? Got the code (Europe) and it gives me an error.

Managed to redeem it with a British account. Ridiculous.

Regarding other games: MUA3 and Xeno1 look very blurry in portable mode. Xeno aggressively so.

Yeah, the jump is definitely a lot larger than a 'Pro', but I agree. It feels extremely same-y.

I could probably replace my Switch with Switch 2 and my wife wouldn't have ever even noticed unless I used it in handheld.

Yay, more remakes.

I mean that's pretty much the console experience. With all sincerity, what did you expect?

What a joke from the German Saturn.
Preordered the switch 2 with pickup at the store, not only they were not able to organize the pickup yesterday, but as a "sorry" they sent me a 10 euro discount code... Or at least they should have, since the email did not actually contain any code.

Will think two times before using them again.

Pretty good so far. To people complaining about the lack of a jump. You have games going from 720p 30 to 1440p 60 and higher. I don't remember negativity around The last of US on PS3 going from 720p 30 to 1080p 60 on the PS4. That's the kind of uplift we are looking at. The only issue so far is the screen which I expected. Its not bad, it just an lCD screen. I have used only OLEDs for the last couple years and more than the contrast, its the motion. There is less blurring on the switch 2 screen than the first and pretty comparable to most LCDs out now but its there and you can't unsee it. Didn't know any difference when the first Switch came out

How the hell did NIntendo miss to make a toggle to mute system sounds!? It's just stupid and annoying as hell!!
The other thing is new new eShop with the auto-play function when browsing the store. Who thought this was a good idea? Is it for the TikTok generation of kids?

HDR adjustments aren't working right

It detected HDR but when I adjust it to make the "pattern on the left visible and the pattern on right not visible" it's impossible to make the pattern on the right go away

I have this exact issue:

Anyone else run into this?

TV is lg c1
Thank fook. I thought I was the only one. Tried a bunch of stuff and the calibration seems completely borked.

Then again I've yet to ever see HDR be worthwhile anyway. It always just makes the image more dark and with gaming it introduces input lag so... still not sold on it.

You have to disable tonemapping or the TV will constantly adjust the HDR to force the suns to stay visible

HDR on video game consoles should be calibrated to HGIG settings

If your TV has a proper Game Mode, input lag is the same with or without HDR enabled

There is a reason that they were thinking about calling it Super Nintendo Switch ;).

Screen aside (and lack of VRR / 4K@120 on TV mode), the unboxing experience was much better than I thought (nice surprise with the My Nintendo internal side of the card box container):
mVlJzkX.jpeg

The first disappointment, OLED contrasts and black levels aside (which make several games a lot less atmospheric to play than the OLED screen… think RE1, think Diablo, etc…) is the kickstand which feels like a step down and easier to break/bend. Several small things feel a bit worse than the OLED revision and Nintendo refuses to compare the OLED revision with the new Switch 2. It is always OG Switch 1 vs Switch 2 (kind of phoning it in that when Switch 2 OLED gets announced they will compare it to the old Switch OLED revision so they do not want to waste that).

(Not my pictures)

Also between the disappointed and worried, they force an unnecessary Ben to the HDMI cable (they should have inverted the Ethernet port and the HDMI one) because of their stupid (yes stupid) aesthetic decision on the Dock:
sLyp2Ew.jpeg

(not my picture)
Even with Nintendo's supplied HDMI cable (which feels easy to bend) you are unnecessarily straining the HDMI port in the dock. Just put two freaking holes one for the vent and the other one for the cables at the level of the HDMI port darnit.

What really grinds my gears though is GCN's emulation and its CRT filter (let alone the backgrounds you still cannot remove)… you have HDR, you have 120 Hz output (at 1440p sure, but you do)… why do you either make me choose between higher res rendering and no scanlines and low res rendering and scanlines?

Yes, if you enable the CRT filter (which still requires to stop and restart the game) and lose the higher rendering resolution output or enjoy the latter and lose the CRT filter… like why????

Smartphone thumbnail previews hide a lot of that. On a non tiny 4K TV you will notice it a lot more, hence the cropped screenshot below too.

No filter:

This is a complete shot in the dark, but if there's a chance of anyone here owning a Switch 1 copy of Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 and that same person currently owns a Switch 2, does it actually reach 60fps on Switch 2?

Nintendo created a whole fake shortage

There really were so many in stores today.

Even here in my city with 2 million people, my coworker was able to walk into Costco and get one at 3pm

Not at home right now but I think I have the LG OLED48CX6LB. Under which setting is "tonemapping" found? Also, at the moment, the TV is still in a bright room so is HDR even worth it then? Thanks.

EDIT: Ah chatgpt saying the following:

✅ Step-by-Step Guide to Enable HGIG

  1. Ensure HDR Content is Active
HGIG is only available when HDR content is being displayed. Make sure you're playing an HDR-supported game or using an HDR-capable device.
  2. Switch to Game Mode
Press the Settings button on your remote, navigate to Picture Mode, and select Game. This mode optimizes settings for gaming and enables HGIG.
  3. Access Advanced Picture Settings
Go to All Settings → Picture → Picture Mode Settings → Advanced Settings.
  4. Adjust Dynamic Tone Mapping
In the Advanced Settings, find Dynamic Tone Mapping and set it to HGIG. This ensures the TV displays HDR content as intended by game developers.
  5. Fine-Tune Brightness
If the image appears too dark, you can adjust the OLED Light setting to increase overall brightness. However, be cautious not to overexpose highlights.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Game Mode Requirement: HGIG is only accessible in Game picture mode. It won't appear in other modes like Cinema or Standard. reddit.com+7reddit.com+7trustedreviews.com+7lg.com
  • HDR Content Detection: The TV should automatically switch to HDR mode when it detects HDR content. If it doesn't, ensure your device is properly configured to output HDR signals.reddit.com
  • Firmware Updates: Ensure your TV's firmware is up to date to avoid potential compatibility issues with HDR content.

By following these steps, you should be able to enjoy HDR content on your LG OLED48CX6LB with accurate tone mapping as intended by game developers.

If I recall it had a 30fps cap. The Switch 1 struggled with reaching that cap, but the Switch 2 should be a totally locked 30fps. Unless it gets patched I don't think 60fps will be on the cards.

For anyone with an LG OLED TV that are struggling with the HDR calibration this is the reason: Dynamic tone mapping on your TV will be set to 'on'. As you try and make the right symbol disappear the dynamic tone mapping is trying to hold on to it.

I think games look better with dynamic tone mapping on so I just made the right symbol disappear as much as possible and left it at that.

Same thing will happen with any calibration regardless of the game or console if dynamic tone mapping switched on. Like I said though I think the setting makes the visuals nicer and pop more.

His take will age poorly. We barely scratched the surface (or put a stapler on it) and this thing's power jump through the roof compared to the original one. And I see a lot of Switch focused channel where they were saying "oh it's look great for the Switch" revisiting the games saying "yeah it was running like ass, it's fantastic now".

And yes Mario Kart World is an underwhelming first impression game

I cancelled my Mario Kart preorder because I agree it doesn't look that amazing and I'm waiting for reviews.

However if you can't see the difference on Breath of the Wild, you need a new pair of eyes. 60fps in full resolution with better textures and draw distance. This is how the game was intended to be.

We all saw him playing Metroid Dread, his opinion is worthless.
