Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Is the official Nintendo carrying in case any good ?
I just had a quick look so I could let you know. Case is your standard fare. Has some slots to put game carts in and has sufficient padding to protect the screen whilst it's in there. I assume this would stop any major damage through drops etc.

Screen protector isn't tempered glass, which I'm a bit disappointed by. However, it'll do for now and I'll grab a tempered glass one in the next couple months.

This is a complete shot in the dark, but if there's a chance of anyone here owning a Switch 1 copy of Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 and that same person currently owns a Switch 2, does it actually reach 60fps on Switch 2?

It does not.

finally got my hands on the Pro Controller.
Media Markt delivered a day late, oh well...

the D-Pad is definitely an improvement over the Switch 1 Pro controller.
HOWEVER accidental diagonals are still very much possible, just in a different way.

on the Switch 1 Pro Controller the accidental diagonals happened because the D-Pad contacts were easily triggered by pressing a bit too high or too low on the 4 directions.
On the Switch 2 Pro Controller that is not an issue anymore, however a different issue is happening.

on the Switch 2 Pro Controller, while holding down one of the 4 main directions, if you move your thumb up or down a bit, it has some wiggle room, and that wiggle room will allow you to tilt the D-Pad towards the neighboring directions, which can lead to you hitting directions you didn't want to.

I tested it on PuyoPuyo Tetris, and had 1 accidental drop so far when it got heated.
also tested SF2 and SF6.
in Street Fighter and other fighting games it won't be as much of an issue, and doing circle motions actually feels really good on it, as the underlying rubber pad feels very snappy, so you can feel directions reasonably well.

so, all in all, the D-Pad is a clear improvement over the Switch 1 (it's hard not to be tbh), but not perfect and not on the level of more expensive controllers like the Razer Wolverine V3 for fighting games, and not on the level of 8bitdo's new tactile D-Pads for Tetris and 2D games.
I think it's possible to get used to the wiggle and accidental inputs on this one, while it wasn't really possible to adjust to the weird accidental diagonals of the Switch 1 Pro Controller.

As a big fan of the Switch, the Switch 2 is extremely underwhelming. This doesn't feel like anything more than a Pro upgrade, which was needed, but not enough games support it. I tried Odyssey and it wasn't as big for me as the video floating around. There was still a lot of jagged edges. Same with BotW. I didn't waste my money on MKW because a Mario Kart game isn't worth $80, but it also didn't look that amazing.

If you have a Switch 1 like I do, and use it for Nintendo only games, you can skip this console for a good while. It's not going to blow your mind like it will for hardcore Nintendo-only fans. As I said before, this feels like a Pro upgrade, not a sequel to Switch.
I have the OG Switch for 8 years now, and this huge upgrade is a very welcome one, the UI is better, snappier, the Wifi is way way better, eShop smoother than ever, and the old games run great on it, I can finally enjoy lots of games (I have more than a hundred games on the Switch) I skipped because of the poor performance (such as Vampyr).

So it is definitly a long-due console

Yes I can see it being an October release with Pokémon in November. And maybe a new Mario/Mario related stuff for the 40th anniversary
Pokemon is already announced for Oktober 16 I think. So maybe the reverse order.

But I'm not convinced they'd put Metroid in the holidays since it's generally not a franchise that sell a lot.

Much, much appreciated Lucifer 💪💪

PS : would you say that the case is better or on par with the usual Chinese stuff found on Amazon ?
Also, the screen protector not being tempered glass is disappointing...

I'm eyeing this one ATM :

The camo.one.looks lovely, don't know about its quality and/protection though...

How's the loading times?

Out of curiosity I reinstalled the Chrono Cross Switch "remaster" on Switch 2 and against all odds it still doesn't run at a stable framerate. This may possibly be the worst port job ever.

In fact it's probably worse because it randomly flies from 20 to 60 fps during battles.

On the other hand many games that ran like crap before are completely playable now like Ys IX, Hyrule Warriors AOC and Raincode.

I've ordered the black one of these, arrives today. I've got the same model for my steam deck and am very satisfied with it. Will report back if it's terrible, but I'd assume it's great like the steam deck version.

Played some old Switch games on Switch 2 last night to test... it feels like Switch 2 is a PC-style upgrade for those games. They just run and load better, even the ones not patched for it. Some games feel completely different at a stable frame rate.
That was what I was mostly poking around on last night. They ran great (even Alien: Isolation).

What is this even? "Man Switch 2 is underwhelming" *Plays only Switch 1 games*.
It's a valid complaint because there's NOTHING at launch worth buying. I don't exclusively play on outdated Nintendo hardware like some of you. So I'm not buying Cyberpunk on this thing. What else is there that I can't get anywhere else? Wheel chair basketball? Half their ads are showing off Switch 1 games!

Nintendo fans must be the same as Apple fans I see.

No worries dude, happy to help!

Skull and Co. are typically pretty good from what I've heard before. To be honest, the only reason I grabbed this one was because it was in stock and I have to have a case otherwise my cat will sit. Even though I believe my kids are sensible with technology and respect it, they are still kids and I'm not silly enough to not have cases and screen protectors for these things.

Id probably recommend going with the Skull and Co one though and then just buying a glass screen protector. I'd have done that if time wasn't a factor.

How's the mouse button? What games are suppose to benefit from it
Out of all of my complaints with this new Switch, the mouse is epic. I actually enjoyed using it and it was comfy. I'm not gonna pay $10 for the welcome thing to try it out but using it to navigate the Switch was great. TBH, I think I'd like one for my PC it was so comfy.

lol some guy on Reddit got QA firmware on his Switch 2

I'm glad I waited to play TOTK.
Playing it emulated was definitely the only way I could enjoy it after picking up ToTK on release, but dealing with some of the annoyances of emulation, and me getting that itch to play TotK again, I'm essentially buying a Switch 2 to replay TotK AGAIN in HDR and 60fps easier on my TV. Might be overkill considering my PC, but I'm looking forward to replaying it again, easily, and then playing some Mario Kart World with my daughter. I remember essentially dedicating my 360 to only playing RDR once a year for quite a number of years.

I was able to snag an online order from Target this morning. Getting up at 4 a.m to get ready for the gym has it's advantages sometimes. Though, I've heard, it's not too far out of the realm of possibility for people to just go grab one from a store.

Won't get one unless I just happen to see it on display when walking into a store, but it's great that it seems that everyone that really really wanted one, managed to get it.

Pokemon Scarlet seems like a whole new Pokemon game, wow

I wasn't sure about the whole magnetic thing, but it works really well. But the ergonomics is horrible. My grip arrives today, thankfully

Trying this one:

I don't like how the Switch 2 Pro Controller is super smooth, it feels like I can't get a proper grip. The Switch 1 Pro Controller may not look as sleek but the grip is much better, just due to the materials used on the controller.

The sticks feel super good to me though, they are quite pleasant to use. Much better than the Switch 1 Controller for sure. The + and - buttons are a bit more prominent so it's easier to use them.

Back buttons are in a good position, it's difficult to press them by mistake, at least for me.

If it were not for the materials used (too smooth) it would be a full upgrade over the Switch 1 Pro Controller.

Mate, no one held a gun to your head. If MK World wasn't to your liking then why did you buy the console? We'll get Prime 4 and (I think) another 3D Mario before years end. Light up friend!

Edit:
Also I got a gaming PC, the Switch 2 is a huge leap in tech and performance over the Switch 1. Perhaps you're right that there's not much to play right now but that's always the case with new consoles. I have faith the wizards at Nintendo will do great things with this new hardware, it is essentially 10x more powerful than Switch 1 and what they put out on that thing is just impressive.

Pro Controller can easily glide out of your hands.

As a showcase title MKW really disappoints. It has no wow factor. And it really should coming from MK8. That game was so very good.

I swear, the Switch 2 has the most negative reaction for a console from people that I've seen online in 20-30 years of using the internet. Even the Xbox One, as hated as it was at launch, you weren't ostracized for just buying the thing.

I posted on a "Nintendo Switch Community" group about my picking up a Switch 2 the other night, and I wanna say 90% of comments have been negative. People telling me how sad and stupid I am. It'd be one thing if I was trolling on a Playstation group, or just a totally unrelated group, but this was someplace I thought I'd be among like-minded fans. It's ridiculous.

It's your money, buy what you want.

Been messing around with the Switch 2's version of auto HDR for Switch games that don't support it natively. You get this by leaving the HDR setting on "always enabled". For a game like Metroid Prime Remastered it is pretty transformative because there are so many neon lights in that game. Only issue is it seems to raise the contrast across the whole image. I brought that back down to near match SDR's black levels by lowering my LG C1's brightness (*it's really contrast) from 50 down to 42. Looks insanely good and makes me want to try out more Switch games that haven't received a full SW2 upgrade.

Sequel to a highly successful console ? Of course it will have negative reaction, as some might consider to be too mainstream now to like it, preferring rather to hate it to show they're « not a sheep ».

To me, it feels like being a hater is being a sheep because it's so prevalent lol

The Switch 2 is exactly what I wanted it to be: a more powerful Switch with a larger screen.

I suppose I get the hate, in some ways, because this is the first iterative console Nintendo has made in a LONG time. They've typically had gimmicks to go along with their new hardware (wii remotes, tablet controller, analog sticks, etc.), even the DS to 3DS was basically just a hardware iteration - but now with a 3D screen! Even the NES to SNES console upgrade had the inclusion of shoulder and additional buttons on the controller to make it feel like a whole new experience. Meanwhile, this just... feels like a Switch, but upgraded.

I think the closest comparison I could make with other console manufacturers is the jump from PS1 to PS2. The PS2 was obviously much more powerful, but it had the same controller as the first one and also played the PS1 game discs. It had its own kinds of gimmicks (widescreen support, DVD playback) but in general it was just an upgraded PS1. In that regard, the Switch 2 feels like it was appropriately named.
