Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Yeah the S2 feels way better. Screen is nice. Playing F-Zero GX like

I'm not getting surround sound on the Switch 2. The only output option for 5.1 is Linear PCM, but my Sonos system doesn't support that signal. That can't be right. There must be lots of people using Sonos. Is there a solution?

My Switch hasn't arrived yet, but I wanted to ask. The Switch 2 has a system data transfer option right? To transfer your data from your original switch? Is it necessary? You could just start your switch 2 from scratch and download your saves and stuff from the cloud on to your Switch 2 correct? And just put the games on there manually?

Has anyone tried xenoblade chronicles x on switch 2 and see if it got any sort of performace boost, or graphical boost? I know there's a rumored Switch 2 patch coming, but what about the game as it is now?

Also, has anyone who has the Mario 3d All Stars tried it on Switch 2 to see how they play now after that patch?

Finally snagged one from Costco 5 minutes ago (already sold out again). Had it in my cart yesterday and couldn't check out fast enough.

Super happy with that deal (NS2 + MKW + 1yr NSO) for $525 despite there not being a ton of great exclusive games day 1

Seems like the system transfer transfers everything automatically. Any down side to this? Can you still play the games on your OG switch?

They will still be downloaded on your original Switch, but you'll have to move the virtual game card back. Luckily it's only like a two click process and it'll automatically prompt you to do it when you try to open the software. You might have to be online to do it though, so I would make sure you have any games you want to play "inserted" into the right system if you're planning to travel with it or something.

Woke up a 5 AM and went to Walmart yesterday. First one in line. Luckily all 6 people in line got what they wanted. Also have an order from Target that is coming next week that will be sold to my brother. Looking forward to finally playing MKW when he gets his.

The console itself... I'm in love. It's pretty much exactly what I wanted plus some.

Alternately, after doing a System Transfer. Go into your old Switch, and press Up from the home screen to select the profile linked to your Nintendo account. Then navigate to User Settings > Online License Settings. Turn this feature on, and you can use it as a "secondary Switch" without loading virtual cards, only a regular online check.

The virtual cards can only be loaded on one system at a time, but once loaded don't require an online check to authenticate.

I did this to make my Switch 1 functional again in one move after doing a system transfer to Switch 2.

Edit: Hidden mine: user profiles. They are all moved to the new Switch, except for those linked to a Nintendo account. Only profiles linked to a Nintendo account will both copy to the new Switch and remain on the old one without being deleted. Since it doesn't seem that you can transfer saves between different profiles, this presents a problem. Scenario: you want a kid to be able to continue their Mario Odyssey game on Switch 1, but their profile was moved to Switch 2, which is the only profile that can play that save, now stuck on the Switch 2...

Since you can only link one user profile per Nintendo account...this is a real headache...

One more question: The Joy-Cons aren't held super firmly by the magnets. When I move them forward, or backward, there's a bit of play. Is that normal? Thanks a lot for your help!

Would you guys rather a free update for the Xenoblade games or them doing something extra with them to merit it being a purchase?
I'd be fine with either. I'd absolutely love if they gave all the games the Mario Party / Kirby treatment for Switch 2 - huge new expansion for each game + re-releasing all of them in Switch 2 retail packaging.

Problem is XC2 and XC3 already have huge expansion and the story was already done with those games.

I personally rather Monolith Soft put resources for new game…..I personally only Switch 2 upgrade for Xenoblade games.

I completely forgot about Fire Emblem W.

What's funny is that it only occurred to me because I have Xenoblade Chronicle 3D coming from Gamefly right now and it is only after it was shipped that I realized that it won't work on my son's 3DS. Didn't know there were so few like that so not a great point as it turns out.

So I got my Switch 2, not super excited, feels a bit too cheap to my taste.

One point though : the support for the joycons to play as a controller is a huge step-back, highly uncomfortable and cheap.

Honestly as much as I LOVE Xenoblade, the 3DS version was not worth it, the already bad UI in Wii version is worse on 3DS and too much visual sacrifice (even for me) to bring on 3DS.

Been a while since I've owned a Switch, but I don't recall the joycons being that different. Do think the thumbsticks feel a little cheap, but at least they are bigger

So I fired up The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening and VERY HAPPY to report that the stutter/performance issues and weird graphical anomalies
that plagued the Switch 1 version have been FIXED on the Nintendo Switch 2!

Runs silky smooth 60fps, 4k, no stutter/performance issues and a just a really crisp, colorful image quality.

Good video to show the difference:

Lots of games getting fixed with this problem. I got about halfway through Echoes of Wisdom which had the same problem, and I've been holding off returning in hopes the Switch 2 would enhance it. Glad I waited.

The PS4 to PS5 jump is another apt comparison, for sure.

The reason I went with PS1 to PS2 as the main comparison in my post though was that I was there at launch, and it felt very similar. Although there was a MUCH wider selection of PS2 games at launch than the Switch 2 has exclusives, games like the ones you mentioned weren't released until well after the console launched (in some case, years). Most people I knew at the time picked up one, maybe two PS2 games, but kept mostly playing PS1 games on the system until the software library filled out a lot more. Day one with the PS2 felt a lot like day one with the Switch 2, for me personally, in that it felt extremely familiar but obviously more powerful. I spent most of the day yesterday playing Switch 1 games, just like I spent most of my first few months with the PS2 playing PS1 games.

This is a better comparison I think. And we know what we are getting, consoles have been refined so much that unless there is another big paradigm shift, we aren't going to be seeing drastic improvements. And that's ok. People are bitching about the PS5 but it's far and away a better experience playing PS4 and PS5 games. Even though people were calling the PS5 the PS4 Pro Pro initially.

Widescreen F-Zero GX is the first thing I played on Switch 2. To me now, it felt very much like it did back in 2003 on a 4:3 CRT on Gamecube.

I am pretty sure Nintendo didn't license any proprietary formats, but your Sonos system should recognize it. Could be your TV or HDMI cable, what is your setup? I have an Arc SL, gen 3 Sub, and One SLs for surrounds plugged into an LG C1. I will test later, but I assure you I get 5.1 LPCM with my original Switch and you should here too.

You could just start your switch 2 from scratch and download your saves and stuff from the cloud on to your Switch 2 correct? And just put the games on there manually?

It's only necessary if you have some games where cloud saves aren't supported and you want to bring over your data. Pokemon is like this and a few others. If you don't do this, those saves can't be brought over unless you factory reset the Switch 2 (or if Nintendo somehow patches it). I would recommend the transfer option, since what it does is transfers your account, all of your offline-only and Cloud saves, any media you saved to the SD card, etc. Then it begins downloads for any games you had installed, but you can manually stop them and just redownload at your leisure later on so you aren't wasting the Switch 2's limited storage.

The reason I didn't want to do it is because I soft modded my Switch and I'm unsure if the transfer will brick one or both systems so I want to wait for confirmation one way or the other on if it does or not. But two, I don't plan on buying storage expansion for the Switch 2 until a few months and I wanted to be selective on what I transfer over so I don't fill up my Switch 2 internal storage too quickly.

But saying I want to try out Zelda TOTK on the Switch 2. All I'd have to do without a system transfer is put it in my Switch 2, download my save from the cloud and I'll be good to go?

Oh shit need to do this

Got mine from target finally day late but whatever.

I missed out on 90% of switch 1 games so stocking up on Mario's I missed.

Any roguelites on switch I need to know about? That's my new addiction
I just started Wonder and it's lovely.

I tried Saint Row the Third which has an uncapped framerate, I don't know its framerate but it is extremely smooth, like over 60

Damn, Bravely Default is such a looker sometimes. I was not expecting a remaster of such an insane quality, especially for a 3DS game and with a 30e price tag.

Incredible game!

I totally agree. Just give me a patch that raises the resolution to something that doesn't look awful on the Switch 2's screen, tweak the performance a bit, and call it a day.

I really want to see what they can do when designing with the Switch 2 in mind. I mean, they were even able to pull off miracles on the fucking Wii.

My lad's was delivered today - Christmas present so straight on the top shelf of my wardrobe next to the littlest ones Switch Lite :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Going to be a long 8 or 9 months until I buy one for myself. However, made easier by the fact that DK, MK and Z-A are the only games I'm hyped for - they will still be there next year.

Thanks for the review man !
So, yay or nay ? those are 90€ a pop ffs, maybe the 8bit do ultimate 2 is the better option ?

Nice ! Please post some impressions brother when you receive it 'cause I'm in immediate need of a case and this looks both stylish and protective, plus, its price is very competitive since most CHY-NA stuff on Amazon is pretty much the same price.

PS : tag me so I can read your post later, cheers

Received it today. Pretty much same quality as the steam deck one, which is to say one of the nicer cases I've owned. Inside is made with this soft plushy material. The cover is hard and looks premium. I was a bit worried after seeing their neogrip for switch 2, but the case is great quality, especially for the price. Cant imagine the official case is better than this one

I am talking about this thing :
grip-joy-con-switch-2.jpg

As the joycons now slide from the side, you do not get the more round and comfortable grip that fills your hand. It is cut straight, with cheap plastic, and you can feel the junction between the plastic quite a lot. I find this much worse than on Switch 1.

i have love hate relationship with the game. I despise the break system but generally loved everything else about the game.

I was eyeing that game when it came out for 3DS, worth buying for switch 2?

Don't know if someone tested this already, but: Just saw a video on YT claiming that you can buy Hogwarts for just 10 dollars. Lend the S1 game from a friend and download the upgrade, then you should be able to play it without the cartridge? If that's the case, isn't that a huge oversight from Nintendos part?

I've been thinking of getting into Bravely Default once I get back my Switch 1. What is the "break system"?

Popped it in last night to take a quick glance and it's running at the same resolution and framerate. It's a very well optimized game. You'll most likely have to wait until Nintendo/Monolithsoft release a proper upgrade patch.

That said it looks and runs phenomenal on the portable screen.

I wonder if Hogwarts Legacy (Switch 2 version) is using DLSS. It looks extremely clean. Not a single jaggy anywhere. Quite pristine image quality. Very impressed. Locked 30fps so far.

I agree that the performance is rock solid but I honestly don't think it looks super crisp? I've never played it on the OG Switch though, for comparison.

There's lots of shimmering when the screen is scrolling and surely it can't be native 4k? Also, why does Nintendo hate AA?

Much, much appreciated friend !
That seals the deal, I mean, it's only a couple of bucks more from the usual Chinese no-brand ones on Amazon and same price as the official Ninty one, plus, from what I've read, it can accommodate a NS2 with a grip installed which is a plus !

Now, black or the camo one ? Hmmm 🤔

Thanks again

Well this is my first time playing it, I only played BD2 before (a game I abslutely loved), but I would say yes: beautiful, fun, deep, great job system and a very good pacing akin to 16 bits JRPG.
