Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Going through my short list of Switch games (did not buy much apart from Mario and Zelda).
Bioshock collection runs like dogshit still.
Portal 2 (need to launch in Airplane mode) is buttery smooth.

Question I have an individual Nintendo online membership but my Costco order came with another 12 months of it + expanding pass? Can I redeem that and get access to it on top of what I have?

Much, much appreciated friend !
That seals the deal, I mean, it's only a couple of bucks more from the usual Chinese no-brand ones on Amazon and same price as the official Ninty one, plus, from what I've read, it can accommodate a NS2 with a grip installed which is a plus !

Now, black or the camo one ? Hmmm 🤔

Thanks again

It will fit a switch 2 with a silicone grip or a smaller form factor grip, but wont fit with for example the neogrip with the bigger handled installed (saw on Amazon the smallest handles are probably the max that fits in the slim case). They also sell a maxi case tho!

Topher Topher what grip did you get

Pics and link below. For a $20 case, it is ok. It is just a solid piece of plastic. The grips feel good. Much more secure in my hands. I don't care for the fact that the grip won't come off with the joycon. It is a bit of a pain in the ass to pry out the joycon. You have to pull the grip away from the joycon and then disconnect it. The grip gets in the way a bit during the process.

I do like that the casing does not get in the way of the kickstand. That is something to watch out for as some definitely prevent you from using it.

Debating on whether to keep it or try something else on amazon.....or just spring for the dbrand $60 killswitch. Honestly, the killswitch seem incredibly overpriced even though it probably the best quality grip on the market. Going to stick with this for a bit and maybe some review videos will pop up on Youtube.

how often do you play docked vs handheld?

Does anyone think the analogue sticks are a bit mushy? Both of mine press down quite easily before reaching the L3/R3 click, and you can sometimes feel it during while moving the stick around.. Makes them feel a bit cheap. Possibly new hardware OCD but it's really hard going from the pro/docked to handheld.

I wouldn't say it was particularly mushy. There's a bit of travel before it reaches the click, but about the same as on an Xbox controller.

One thing I noticed is that the sticks are very lightly sprung, and as they are quite stubby with a very short throw, I sometimes move them without realising I'm touching them. Like, the camera moves in Mario Kart while I'm not intentionally moving the stick. Thought it was drifting at first.

Yes, it's about the ease of the travel if that makes sense. With other controllers I usually have to consciously press down or they don't move depress. Both joycons are the same so I'm erring on the side of my own OCD, but they just don't feel great. My switch1 joycons have a little mushiness but much less pronounced. Xbox or PS controllers need a decent amount of pressure to depress.

I agree with what you say about the sensitivity.

You can skip almost the entire review portion which is about the game, this is the relevant part we all care about

So, it's a seriously meaty game; how does Nintendo's new system handle such a demanding title? In short, it does an excellent job. There are two graphical modes: Quality, which targets 30fps and higher fidelity; and Performance, which ekes things out to an unusual (for a console) 40fps.

They're both available in handheld no matter what, but Performance only works in docked mode if you have a 120hz TV or monitor, as 40 is not a factor of 60. Trust us, we worked it out on a calculator and everything, 40fps on a 60hz screen would cause some wild frame time inconsistencies, and would look awful.

Both modes are a delight, and for the most part I stuck with Quality as I was playing docked and don't have a whizzo 120hz TV. I originally played with motion blur enabled, but after getting used to it switched off, I can't ever go back. It takes the edge off the low frame rate at first, but the game is substantially crisper and better looking without it.

Where things really shined, though, was handheld mode; when docked I could forget I was playing on a portable device, but holding the game in my hands looking as good as it does, and at 40fps on the Switch 2's excellent VRR display, was something utterly magical, and bizarre. Couple this with cross-progression and you have the ultimate way to play Cyberpunk on the go, even if you're not new to the game.

There are moments when the game stutters, mainly loading new areas when driving about, and a few little hitches in various areas of Dogtown, but overall? The performance genuinely delighted me. I did notice a few graphical anomalies where the geometry seemed to go bananas (again, mostly in Dogtown), but they never really impacted my time more than, 'Oh, that's odd, can I make it happen again?' Truly, this is the poster child for what ports can look like on Switch 2.

Yeah, I'm thinking we're back. If 3rd parties can take their ports seriously, the Switch 2 will turn out to be a great little machine for playing more than just Nintendo 1st party titles

The reason I didn't want to do it is because I soft modded my Switch and I'm unsure if the transfer will brick one or both systems so I want to wait for confirmation one way or the other on if it does or not. But two, I don't plan on buying storage expansion for the Switch 2 until a few months and I wanted to be selective on what I transfer over so I don't fill up my Switch 2 internal storage too quickly.

But saying I want to try out Zelda TOTK on the Switch 2. All I'd have to do without a system transfer is put it in my Switch 2, download my save from the cloud and I'll be good to go?

Just sign into the account and download the game and cloud saves, yeah. You might want to choose the Use Online License setting to get around the virtual game card situation. I am not sure how that works with your softmodded Switch, or if you'd even need to do it.

I only do physical on Switch so in my case I guess all I'd need to do is download the latest game update?

I wasn't sure about the whole magnetic thing, but it works really well. But the ergonomics is horrible. My grip arrives today, thankfully

Trying this one:

I was looking at that one. I ordered this one. Arrives tomorrow.

I wish Mobapad had their Joycons day one. Their switch joycons replacements were phenomenal.

I was looking at that one. I get that it suppose to stand up on its own, but I'm thinking it won't be as stable as the kick stand. I do like Skull & Co. stuff.

Oh shit need to do this

Got mine from target finally day late but whatever.

I missed out on 90% of switch 1 games so stocking up on Mario's I missed.

Any roguelites on switch I need to know about? That's my new addiction
Dead Cells if you have never played it. Hades as well. Both were very good on the Switch.

I'll pop it off to use the kickstand. I played about 3 hours of MKW today with it on the kickstand and using the joycons plastic controller thing. It's way more comfortable to use than the original Switch one since the joycons are larger.

I've tried doom 2016 and doom eternal on my switch 2 today. definitely still switch versions, ya know lower textures and whatnot. but they are definitely running at higher res than i remember, and the performance is very smooth. i don't remember if they were capped at 30 or not, but it feels very responsive in both games.

Tell you what I really like the Pro controller... feels perfect in my hands, good weight and the analogues feel nice, but it is over priced no doubt.

I think I understand why Nintendo is charging for the Switch 2 tech demo game. It's so boring that they probably don't even want people to play it, so they figured fewer people would try it (and have a negative first experience with the Switch 2) if it cost money.

I can't believe I spent money on this.

Bro I'm not gonna lie, I'm high as fuck and reading this just now scared the absolute shit out of me. I couldn't tell if I was processing data wrong or some shit.

The system isn't very ergonomic... my hands kinda hurt after an hour or two of playing mario kart world in handheld mode. I can see the bruise marks on my fingers. Time to order a pro controller.

So far the Switch 2 feels premium and the games run great docked and portable. I know the screen isn't oled but for me the colors are vivid and everything is super clean so no complaints from me there. I really prefer the joycons this time around compared to the Switch 1, they feel less toy-like and more made for a real gaming console but the real MVP is the Pro controller: it feels perfect!...but it's weird that we still don't have analog triggers in 2025.
I've only played some Mario Kart, Bravely Default and both Zeldas with the upgrade packs so far and I really like the experience. I feel the price of the hardware is justified but the price for the games are hard to understand, luckily for us we have a decent income household to afford them and we don't buy a ton of games anyway.

Positives aside I have 2 negatives:
1. The hdmi cable included is short as fuck.
2. While there is a good amount of third party games, Mario Kart isn't a big enough game for me if there is going to be just one first party title. I would have liked to have Metroid Prime 4 along Mario Kart for launch titles or replace Mario Kart with the next 3D Mario if we can only have one big title. Fortunately, Donkey Kong is right around the corner and since it's way too soon for the next 3D Zelda game to be revealed, maybe they could have held off on the release of Echoes of the Wisdom and release it as a launch title with the Switch 2 for the sake of having some variety as far as new first party games go.

Not paying a dime for Welcome Tour, very excited for Metroid Prime 4, Donkey Kong Bananza and Duskbloods. Can't help but wonder when we are going to see the next 3D Mario.

getsing second switch 2 for anniversiry wife thinks is beautiful confirmed

Got a switch 2 from Walmart a few minutes ago, comes today. Its the regular version not a bundle. I can't decide if I'm gonna keep it or scalp it. Mario Kart looks fun but there really seems to be not a single good game on the console, ports from switch and other consoles don't count.

It's widely available everywhere so there's no point in trying to scalp it

If you're not going to keep it and play it then just return so someone who actually wants it can buy it and play it

Not true at all, I know several people who have made a good bit off reselling it.

Set everything up and transferred the data from the Switch OLED and this thing definitely feels like a more refined, premium version of the Switch. Everything feels much smoother when it comes to the dashboard and navigating the eshop isn't a stuttery shit fest like it was before.

Booted up Tears of the Kingdom through my OLED monitor and wow, huge difference in image quality. Shame the launch lineup is a bit barren but I'm sure Mario Kart World and ToTK will keep us busy for a long time.

Is anyone else getting crashes on the console? I've gotten two on actual Switch 2 being games: One on MKW and another in the SF6 demo. I hope they figure out those issues

Guys quick question. Did anyone try wireless earbuds? I remember it was delayed on the first Switch.

Got my Switch 2 yesterday, it came with a broken seal (Smyths toys). Installing the tempered glass screen protector (amfilm) was a breeze thanks to the cleaning sticker and alignment stencil. I was worried about the reports of 3rd party controllers, 8bitdo in particular not working. I tried my 2 bootleg controllers: a 5 year old bargain basement terios t23 and a hall effect stick gamersir nova lite. Both work great on the Switch 2 after pairing.

The XC games need an update to change the DRS upper bound, they look painfully blurry in handheld mode. 540p on an 8" display is not great. Why was Monolithsoft unable to deliver an update, when a small team like Hello can deliver free transformative upgrades. The shocking thing is even XCX released a few months ago does not have a patch. Unlock framerate and change the DRS upper bound to 1080p, how difficult is this?

Yeah, I'm using airpod pros and they work great. Seems like lower latency than the switch 1, too.
