Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Switch 1 design originally had a portability philosophy but eventually people ended up mostly using it indoors even in handheld mode. Given that Switch 2 is larger and so has lost even more of its outdoors viability I wonder if battery life has been targeted for an at-home device never far away from power points.
PHones take care of the ultra portable thing. This is more iPad portability.
Turning off HDR would make a noticeable difference to the battery life. Apparently it's pointless anyway.
there is an HDR/SDR a/b test in Welcome Tour. Barely notice a difference and that's when you're looking for it.

why would I want it to stop charging around 90%? Honest question.
It's to prolong the lifespan of the battery. Charging to 100% every time will degrade the battery faster.

That's why most phones have charge limits and/or slow down charging at around 80%.

Not that is looks great, it doesn't in the slightest, but it feels good to play Tears of the Kingdom in a much better state than what we originally had.

I honestly reckon Nintendo should have held out and just had it as a Switch 2 launch game.

Held off 25 million copies in sales for 2 years? Nah...

I do wonder if I'd enjoy it more than I did the first time now that it doesn't look and run like complete shit. There were a lot of design issues that kept me from enjoying the game the first time around, but the overall sluggishness magnified all those issues.

Eh, or maybe I'll just replay BOTW since I haven't touched that game since that initial playthrough in 2017.

I'm quite enjoying Mario Kart. I first tried it with three friends in splitscreen, and it was total mayhem. But in single player, being able to enjoy the tracks in full screen, it's as good as always. Also seems a little less aggressive than 8. In Survival Mode I managed to stay in first place for literal minutes. MK8 would absolutely go and crush your spirit the second you'd even dare to think about getting in first place and winning a race. I guess getting full stars in everything will be an exercise in patience as usual, but the game is really good. Also feels different enough from 8, and the OST is glorious.

I'm also enjoying the literal tons of salt from the Nintendo haters here on GAF. They never disappoint.

I just remembered that Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury got a free update.
tried it just now, and it's such a welcome patch.

the original version of Bowser's Fury ran at 720p 30fps in handheld mode. with the Swich 2 patch this is now 1080p 60fps in Handheld mode.

I haven't played it docked yet, but I assume it's gonna be at least 1440p now, maybe even 4k? the performance overhead should be there for it... gonna have to check that later

Echoes of Wisdom looked so good in handheld mode I bought the LA remake, which looks equally amazing. 1080p, 60fps with no drops.

3D world does look great, though to my eyes not as sharp as Odyssey with the update. Interestingly Bowser's Fury looks sharper than the original 3D world levels

Saves the battery quality more long term, most phones have it these days to protect the battery.

Im enjoying the switch 2 sort of but realised I mostly bought it so Icould play Xenoblade 60fps in potential future, but in two minds if to return or not

I've been having good fun in MKW.

I tried some NMS. Dark areas/night is almost impossible. It must be some HDR mess.

Coming from the launch model Switch, there are several things I don't like:
  • The display is too warm.
  • The Joycons, while bigger, are more uncomfortable for me.
  • The loss of the IR sensor is annoying.
  • The Joycons are bland.
  • The Joycon attachment is worse and feels a little flimsier.
  • It's too big.
Actually, the performance aside (and better build quality), I prefer my old Switch.

I'll stick with it as it's where all the games will be and the performance boost is great.

What is this about removing the film? The only thing I've seen about this is the thread I posted where Nintendo told customers not to remove it. The screens getting stapled was at one Gamestop. Not sure how these are "issues" that would make anyone return their SW2

Are either of these issues affecting you?
The original poster I quoted listed issues spotted so far and I also added to that list with issues I have seen mentioned as well but that has nothing to do with me returning the switch, I want to return it because I don't need it at the moment and brought it due to fomo which I mentioned in my post.

Giving the pro controller a try as my 8bitdo seems to be having connection issues. As others have noted, it is very slick. Wish it had some texture to it. Otherwise, seems fine.

Fair enough

So, MKW felt kind of meh. Think I will be spending more time playing Switch 1 games with better performance, have been sitting on Link's Awakening forever. Hear that one is upgraded well. FOMO got me again.

Prime 4 coming soon though, so can't wait.

Fortnite now has Mouse support after the new season update today.

the mouse aiming itself feels pretty natural, however, it's super weird getting used to using your right hand both like if you're using a controller, and like using a mouse.

usually you don't have that many actions on your mouse hand, and usually you have both ADS and firing on the mouse hand 🙃

so very weird using a controller as a mouse

8bitdo put out Switch 2 compatability patches for most of their controllers on friday. Make sure you check their site and update if you dont have the most recent firmware

I did the beta updates and they worked. Controller just keeps disconnecting for some reason.

I think the system is great but two days in and the excitement has sort of deflated quite a bit and now it really just feels a bigger Switch.

I've put about 5 hours into Wind Waker which is one of my favorite games but playing it just makes me want them to port the Wii U version even more as the GameCube version has this frustrating movement where there is a pretty big deadzone and then suddenly you just GO and I've fallen off of so much shit because of it. I've played the Wii U version up through the Forbidden Woods and didn't experience this. It's been nearly 2 decades since I played the GC version and it probably just comes down to "old game is old".

I ended up buying Suikoden so I have that and I've put about an hour or so into the Hundred Line Last Defense Academy demo as well.

I don't know if I necessarily regret buying it, but the excitement is gone.

BOTW and TOTK look absolutely amazing and I was fully ready to start a new play through of both of them... until I started. I love both of them (never finished TOTK as I got to the Spirit Temple and fell off), but starting over had me remembering all the parts I didn't care for that much.

I'm glad I ended up getting the official pro controller at least right now. Despite the price it feels amazing in the hands.

Mine finally arrived today. Unfortunately it arrived in the middle of a gaming session I already started that I don't want to stop so depending on when this gets done I may not hook it up til tomorrow.

Wish there was a 1tb expansion express SD in stock somewhere. The Lexar one from AMazon was out of stock forever and they removed the page entirely.

It is weird of them not to release the better release/remaster of WW. Perhaps there are those who prefer the original, but F-Zero GX and Soul Calibur are way more appealing to me because of that.

I did something really bad guys. The night I picked up my Switch 2 at the Gamestop midnight release, I ended up cancelling my BOTW NS2 copy of the game for a Switch 1 used copy cuz it was half price when you factor in everything and the $9.99 upgrade fee. So the night we all went to pick up our systems, the employees were just calling your number and giving you everything you ordered all wrapped up in rubber bands (NOT STAPLES) with a number on it and if it matched your receipt/number that was it, bam boom take it and get out of the store and keep the line moving as fast as possible so they could get out of there at a reasonable time. Anyway shortly after I left I noticed everything looked good, I got my Mario Kart World bundle, a few accessories, a few games and I got to say I love the look of everything including the new cases and the red color scheme. Then I noticed that I had a copy of TOTK for Switch 2 and then BOTW for Switch 2 as well. So since I now had an extra copy of BOTW I was trying to figure out what to do with it and found out Walmart takes returns without receipts so I went today, and they took the copy of BOTW and gave me $70 credit and I ended up grabbing this bad boy...

Yeah, it's baffling to me because they've basically ported the entire Wii U library already and WW/TP would sell quite a bit I would imagine.

Maybe it's to draw more people to their online service?

Still have yet to open Mario Kart, but will likely unleash it on my daughter tomorrow.

Confounds me they don't have a Brain Age/Big Brain/Wario Ware type game available at launch - this system screams for it and would definitely have been the killer app for me.

That said - I figured I might buy Bravely Default as I have yet to play any iteration - but wtf why is it just a game card code? Cyberpunk is fully on cart but a Bravely Default port isn't?? When I found out it wasn't on cart, decided not to buy for now.

Having a great time playing Mario Kart with the wife. As silly as it is, it's actually really fun using the camera for in-person co-op and seeing the look on people's faces as they're focusing on the race.

I somehow missed that the Mario Party upgrade wouldn't be available at launch, so that's a major disappointment. Really feels like this launch needed just one brand new single player game (not counting Welcome Tour) to sink my teeth into. DK can't come fast enough

Cyberpunk is the only non game card release from a third party as far as I'm aware. I would expect this to be the standard going forward honestly as I'm sure it's much cheaper for publishers to put out game card releases then actual cards.

1st party seems to all be on the card, but 3rd party is all game key cards.

TL;DW - Switch 2 prioritizes the bottom USB port for charging. If you plug a charger into both ports, it will charge from the bottom port. It will only charge from the top port if the bottom port is not plugged in

I recall reading the publishers need to pay for the cards, and that they only came in 2 sizes, the larger of which was a hefty chunk of change. I can see why just strictly from a financial perspective they're looking at a better ROI by using the cheapest cards possible and just including a download key. Also means they dont need to release any updated carts as the game receives patches.

Apologies if this has already been asked a million times in this thread, but can anyone recommend a good grip for handheld mode?

The OG Switch used to make my hands cramp a bit after an extended session of handheld play, but I used to take that as a sign that it was time for me to take a break, lol. However, my right hand started cramping almost immediately today after starting Mario Kart World. I thought the bigger joy-cons would be more comfortable, but something about the button placement makes it painful for me to hold down A while hovering another finger over ZR. Anyway, rather than try to hold it differently, I think it's time for me to finally break down and get a grip.

Maybe because English isn't my first language, but I seriously doubt that.
English being my first language isn't helpful in the slightest. Majority of his posts give me an aneurism.

With Switch 1 the Satisfye grip was the king and I imagine that won't change.

Genki has a couple grips that look nice. One has joy on grips that swing out so you can remove them.

Do you have it set at "Stop charging around 90%"?

If so then it's going to slow down and stop around 85%-90%.
I do have that option checked but the charging I noticed was from %65-%75, so I don't think that setting is the determining factor here. I know my iPhone has a battery saving option and it charges the same speed to %80 with, or without the option checked.

There are some cheapo options on Amazon. I've tried a couple and they are meh. Depends on what you want though. If you want to easily detach the joycons or if you if you want to be able to use the kickstand. Or both. Options for either, but very limited for both at this point.

I ordered the dbrand killswitch. $60 but includes its own dock.

Isn't it just an expansion for the dock? Like it slides in the original dock and extends it?

Maybe I read it wrong.

I think I mostly want something that's comfortable and easy to put on and take off, since I really only want it for handheld play and don't want to leave it on when docked or when the joy-cons are detached.

Ah...yeah, you are right. So you set the S2 in the extended dock which extends out in front of the regular one. I guess they had to do that because it wouldn't fit in the original with the case. It is definitely a tight fit for the other cases I've tried so makes sense.

Probably wouldn't like the one I've tried then.

hogcrud peoples should be dump spageti on for get thirs when you can buy yakuzas street fighter hitsman orrrrrr cyberpunk

Holy shit. I Could not understand a single thing in this post.

In my humble opinion the developers of Hogwarts Legacy did a poor job of porting the game. If you instead purchase either Yakuza 0, Street Fighter 6, Hitman or Cyberpunk 2077 you are going to have a more pleasant experience my good sir.

I loved my SW1 Satisfye.

The SW2 version is dockable as well so you never need to take it off. Stores 2 game carts as well.

I wonder if they update Splatoon. It's weird they didn't announce anything since it's one of their biggest IPs and you know they work on it.

I find him easy to understand in context to other posts. But when he's freestyling even I struggle a bit.

I give him the benefit of doubt. He might just doing it as a schtick. I mean autocorrect is a thing...unless his writing is so off the chart that it committed seppuku. But I do find him endearing.

The only mario i got to play before i sold my switch 1 was odyssey and its goated to me. Im going back and grabbing all the Mario titles that I missed. is there anything to avoid? I also probably will grab some of the other platformers Kirby, peach etc. What are the avoids or must plays?
