Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Breath of the Wild looks really great now, I have to say. I'll finally finish it.
Bingo. The game is stunning in docked mode now. On top of that, TOTK is even better looking. I never got a chance to play it on Switch 1 even though I owned it but watching the new updated Switch 2 TOTK trailers, it's a sight to behold.

Yeah, I'm even more excited to play ToTK since I never played it at all. Switch 2 is really the sweet spot, imo, for Nintendo's style of game.

Still have yet to open Mario Kart, but will likely unleash it on my daughter tomorrow.

Confounds me they don't have a Brain Age/Big Brain/Wario Ware type game available at launch - this system screams for it and would definitely have been the killer app for me.

That said - I figured I might buy Bravely Default as I have yet to play any iteration - but wtf why is it just a game card code? Cyberpunk is fully on cart but a Bravely Default port isn't?? When I found out it wasn't on cart, decided not to buy for now.
Is Bravely one of those 'game codes' like Hitman is? If so I don't mind that as much. Yea I'd prefer the entire game be on the card but I'd much rather have the game code thing Nintendo is doing over just a case with a downloadable code inside that's just a digital game pretty much. With the way Nintendo is doing the game code thing, the game is still tied to the cartridge so you can re-sell it, trade it etc. The only downside is that you have to use your own space to download the game. Annoying? Yea, but definitely not the worst situation I've seen.

I have ToTK but never really played it for very long. Maybe i should give it another try. Idk

I've got 40 hours in TOTK, but haven't played in two years. I'm thinking about just starting a new save.
Thats crazy to me, once I started TotK I got so addicted to that game that put close 200+ hours.

I love any game with good traversal.

I played BOTW none stop and did almost all of the shrines before the divine beasts or rest of the story. I clocked in 180 hours on my playthrough. I was doing the same thing with TOTK, but just lost interest at one point or another.

Battery life is shit, and screen quality is mediocre.. Just for $450. Sounds like Nintendo all right.
Battery life is on par with the switch 1. Steamdeck and other pc handhelds do often have worse battery life.

Screen is better as my oled switch 1. Not to mention its 120hz with vrr and hrd. No single pc handheld do offer that. I prefer this over an oled screen any day. Sure after 2 a 3 years, and oled screen would come. Nintendo (same as valve) did not choose for oled as not enough unlts could be made with hdr and vrr support.

So your argument about its nintendo, just stop trolling

So I'm curious, did anyone get Survival Kids? It didn't get the best reception from some people, but it's part of the same series that used to be called Lost in Blue on the DS, and those could be kinda challenging at times.

Haven't heard much about it, but I'm wondering if it's fun at all, and if it's just a co-op experience, or if it can be played single player.

And a free upgrade for Online subscribers... Or included if you prefer.

Played some Mario Kart World today for the first time. Pretty good, I am kind of overwhelmed with the amount of stuff happening though. Is it just me or does it seem to bring you back to the same few tracks in each cup? Characters are fun and music is awesome though. I like that it's not going to be a complete replacement of MK8D, it can stand on its own. Only thing I really don't like so far is the wall riding.

I bought the upgrade for TOTK, as I have the physical S1 version. Sometimes, cutscenes can have audio cuts or little freezes with normal sound. It can happen or not, it's so random. It happened once with the full moon cutscene too. I reinstalled it, same. No problem with any other games.
I only saw one person writing about this elsewhere.
Any idea why ?

Screen is better as my oled switch 1.
😂 no… based on what metrics? I will give you size and resolution (less so size as the difference is rather small… resolutions fine, but 720p with much better AA would be rather fine for portable mode).

Not to mention its 120hz with vrr and hrd.
OLED displays on handhelds do 120 Hz or 144 Hz and HDR and HDR actually works without making the visuals washed out which is one of the main expectations people have when they think about HDR really: wider colour gamut, great contrast, strong bright highlights and smooth shadows without loss of detail or raised black floor.

It is a better screen than the OG Switch but HDR with no dimming zones or OLED like per pixel control is near to useless as it makes everything brighter including dark areas (450 nits peak is also not great for HDR).
Problem is people paid for a feature (VRR ) that is only usable in handheld mode and another feature (HDR) that is only really useful in TV mode and it makes the price increase angle years after the Switch OLED model a bit tougher to be happy about. We can throw specs left, right, and centre but that can be meaningless to justify the price if they are not useful.

The screen is objectively mid. The nits are average, its fake hdr since its only 400 nits

I understand if you have never seen a good screen or your eyes simply cant tell the difference between 1000 nits hdr qd oled and a mid range lcd panel.

What's the general consensus on screen protectors? For Switch 1 I used the one that came with the official carrying case, and it served me well for all these years. It's scratched, especially where the dock touches the screen, but nothing terrible.

Do I really need to buy and apply one right away on Switch 2, too? Is the pre-applied one really such a shit that people managed to scratch the actual screen with that film on, just by taking the system in and out of the dock? Sounds like clickbait scaremongering to me, or something that only people from certain online forums would manage to do in just a day or two of owning the system.

Random question: if you have the upgraded version of BOTW or TOTK, does the details page for the game say it's a Switch game, or a Switch 2 game? I'm curious if Nintendo considered these a much more significant rebuild than the other Switch games that had a free patch.

I bought one anyway, I was too careless 8 years ago for my OG Switch and I regret it, if I can keep the screen as clean as possible for the next 8-10 yeras I'll be happy

Its a better screen :
This isnt an opinion as you can clearly see.
You need to know that i'm not saying that led is better as oled. But in the case comparing to switch oled, the switch 2 wons big time.

Also again, all handheld, the combination of vrr wirh 120hz with hdr doesnt yet exists. I still prefer that over oled screen without vrr or hdr support. You get more benefit from those than real black colors.

Odyssey looks incredible on a big OLED tv. You really get the feeling playing some Switch 1 games that this is how they were intended to be played. Nintendo really should've upgraded the hardware at least a year ago, even though developers performed miracles on it that Tegra chip wasn't fit for purpose.

Too bad that people can see the quality of black levels and washed out colours if you use HDR in portable mode (one of the Reddit screens has an OG Switch in a completely different area of the game and the OLED Switch does not seem at all with max brightness and yet you can see the effect of fake HDR in portable mode).

MKW with mostly bright full of light scenes is also perhaps the area where the LCD loses less ground vs OLED too… so the most flattering comparison you can find.

OLED with good HDR and 120 Hz or more exist and it is a closed box console, Nintendo could give developers control of the screen refresh rate so VRR would not be needed (see Steam Deck that gives it to users).

Whether you need it or not the preapplied one is not a screen protector. It is there just to keep the shards of a shattered screen in place.

It was the first thing I did with the system. Went for the amFilm tempered glass. The film they apply to the system is not a screen protector, it's a shatter preventer, and if it's like the OLED then it's easy to scratch from experience with my son's old unit.

It's so cheap and easy to do, why risk it? For my sons and nephew's units I got the iVoler 4pk with alignment frame for like $9 and they came out awesome. A few bucks for peace of mind is worth it.

The plastic top layer of the screen is extremely easy to permanently scratch. 100% get a screen protector.

It was the first thing I did. I used the one included with the carrying case.

I wanna punch whoever decided saved clips will be saved at 30fps. Nice way to show off footage to others

Just put one on man, no need to over analyze things, it's literally the cheapest investment you can make for your new device.
Put one on yesterday (Jsaux ones, comes with an alignment tool) and it's perfect, why risk it ?
It's extra protection which A) doesn't break the bank B) will do its job when needed.

You WILL get micro scratches in the long run due to either everyday life OR putting it/taking it out of the dock.
Remember the NS1 ? well, that would have been a non problem if everyone had applied a glass protector since D1, why risk it ?

Just put one on to have some piece of mind, at the very worst, you'll be 6-10€$ short, that's it...

Nah I wouldn't. That person just wanted to save storage. I'd punch whoever decided not to include a 60fps record option, unless it's the same person.

I haven't been able to connect my 8BitDo Pro 2 controller even though I've updated it to the latest firmware.

Any tips?
It's really stupid and took me several minutes to figure this out. Or maybe I'm stupid lol

So in the controller setting I was trying to find new controllers... but that never worked. What I actually had to do was go into Change Grip/Order and that's where my SN30 Pro finally showed up,

I just saw some video right now and some are nasty durability test which i cannot stand it, its brutal. Poor switch 2 getting tortured, its like if im Nintendo im going to sue. 😆
I couldn't watch that one. Not when I had just gotten my console. Stupid I know.

You can just upload clips to app and download them etc if you wanna save space, but yeah, even option would be good. On ps5 you get ton of options, even for image formats

Thank you boys for trying things out 😉
PSA : there's a new FW update for your 8bit do Pros, just saw it on the official site !

Talking about joypads :
While I do appreciate the fact that you can play - say - games like MKW using just 1 set of joycons 2, the fact that you have to attach/detach them every single time from the grip/console itself, plus the fact that they'll accumulate grime sooner or later (especially in their "inward" part where the small bumper buttons are located/the side that attaches to the console) for obvious reasons, make me think that there's no escape from spending extra money for an extra joypad...

Now, the question is, official Ninty Pro one (90 fucking Eurodollars) or 8bit do ? the 8bit do ultimate 2 C is only 30 Eurodollars, has hall effect sticks AND vibration and then there's the Ultimate 2 which goes for 70 and has every goodie available, thing is, is there a catch ? Do they work properly/have all the features available to them or...? How arey they built ? Not looking to have buttons/bumpers failing after not even 1 year.

Looking forward to your input 'cause I NEED one and it'd be better for my pocket if I didn't spend the 90 for the Nintendo Pro one.

Cheers
