Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Sigh, doesn't look like my pro controller shipped yet. The BB delivery estimate said I would have it today....
None of the stores in my area have them in stock so I guess I just get to wait

so how much should I start saving up like there's the console, and all these add-ons like pro controllers ect. Can the SD card in my Switch 1 still be fine for the switch 2? and of course the games (lets say 1-2 game) and sales tax...I guess the buy in is more realistically $800?

The Switch 2 requires a different type of SD card
After installing all my S1 games plus Mario Kart World I still have like 136gb free though so you might not need it right away

edit: My Nintendo invite literally just showed up in my inbox, now that I have a S2 in my hands :(

The Gamecard key is by far the worst, most confusing mistake Nintendo has done in ages.

Since they are not using it for their games, I'm assuming they came up with this out of pressure from third parties.

They should have stood their ground intead of doing this. Nintendo owes these companies nothing. And do they really need them that much? Come on...

I dont think old SD works on Switch 2, it needs to be Micro SD Express.

Nah, you can do okay with about $600.

Console; $450
Game or 2; $50-$130

You don't need a pro controller or SD card immediately at launch, but if you want one that's another $85...so $685 absolute max.

honestly, this one pisses me off more than anything because it is so flimsy. Manufacturing cost gotta be $5-10 and they are charging out the ass for it.

We may start seeing some knockoffs with Better price and contruction some weeks from now

Mostly everything is improved upon significantly since S1, with the dock seeming like the exception. It was touted to have good cooling power but that seems to be not the case. Also seems like they could fall apart easily while most of us still have our S1 docks.

It dosnt have compatibility with SW1 dock ?

Surprised it seems like nobody has mentioned these. Cranked at max, the audio is crisp with no distortion. Gone are the days of the one speaker, crackly GBA speaker. I'm assuming no mention of them also means no complaints about them, else there would have been 1000 topics by now. Feel free to praise or piss and moan down below. ✌️

The S2 dock has holes on the bottom for air intake. The fan to help with cooling. The odds it doesn't cool better are ~zero. I mean they wouldn't put a fan in it if it didn't help cool the Switch 2.

The Switch 2 power supply is ~65W (old one was maybe half that or less?) so there is more heat to dissipate. Maybe why one might think it doesn't seem to cool good.

The corners are rounded so to make room to press the lever and take out each joycon with one hand.

It's larger to accommodate the bigger Switch 2.

OTherwise yes it's not really an upgrade over the last dock. It's just a few tweaks and a fan compared to the OLED's. Just cheap plastic with a USBC hub in it. Not going to put more money into this than they have to to do its job.

Oh another tiny design nugget is one of the 4 rubber feet has a bit of plastic around it to lower the odds the whole thing tips over if an outgoing cable is accidentally pulled. It lets it slide a bit compared to if it wasn't there.

The speakers are actually the same as on the OLED. The difference is the boxes around them are tightly sealed this time. And the speakers are diagonally down facing.

Cancelling the dbrand killswitch. Ordered the Skull and Co. Savage Raven (lol...that name). Should be here in a couple of weeks. Checks all my boxes. Kickstand works. Docks fine. Has good ergonomics. I had one of these with the OLED I had a couple of years ago and it was great. Amazon has nothing but shit right now it seems so bought direct.

I haven't seen anything online about this so here it goes :
What about cross-gen games on this thing ? I'm not talking about games like Zelda BOTW or what have you but smaller games like - say - Ninja Gaiden Rage bound, Shinobi etc, cheaper, non 3D games if you will.
On the PS store for example, there's both a PS4 and PS5 option for a game with the later having faster loading times, higher res and even higher framerate, is it going to be the same with the Switch 2 going forward ? Are they going to be offering a S1 or a S2 version on their store ?

I'm asking 'cause even simpler games like Have a nice Death, Cookie cutter and MegaMan 11 are obviously stuck in "S1 mode" and it's a shame, all of the above games I mentioned look so much cleaner on the PS5 due to their higher res (obviously) compared to the S2 especially when docked where you're displaying the game on a 55' (and higher) 4K display.

Are there going to be S1 and S2 versions of the same game or are they going to be bundled in the same license when buying a game digitally like on PS5/XSX ?

Too bad developers won't ever go back and patch games to remove 30 fps caps, same problem PS4 Pro and PS5 Pro will forever have

It's time perhaps to use the power of forums like Gaf to start real email writing campaigns. Whip up nice emails and send them directly to the developers/publishers.

Try and get some real dialogue going or actually show them there is real interest in such patches. It could even be a cross forum
Campaign.

Shouting into the socials or between ourselves will get nothing done, but perhaps 50 emails to their inbox might.

My nephew and I made it in the local newspaper. Reporter is a legend for actually printing that quote. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

"I'm extremely stoked," Nolan Harrison said, dressed as the villain Bowser from Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. series.
"I haven't been this happy since I kidnapped Peach back in 1985," joked Harrison, referring to a character from Super Mario Bros.

Totally agree. I went with:

Mario Kart Bundle - $500
Hogwarts Legacy Switch + upgrade fee - $28 ($18 + $10)
... And that's it.

So I got away with $528 + tax for the system and two games.

Now, granted, I already had NSO with the Expansion Pack, so I also have the Zelda upgrades and the GameCube app, so I guess you could add another $50.

But still, you definitely don't need to spend anywhere need $800 to get started with the system and have plenty to play. And that's not even counting backwards compatibility.

I'll certainly grab the pro controller and a microSD Express card eventually, but I'm good for now.

I finally unboxed my Switch 2 Pro Controller.

Holy shit.

The Switch Pro Controller was the most comfortable for me, it just had the dpad ever so slightly off and the arms slightly too short.

The Switch 2 one has perfectly fixed those issues. It is slippery, and that it still doesn't have analogue triggers, plus only two back buttons is annoying. But holy fuck is it comfy!
That D-Pad...

hmm, will check it out. Was looking at the dbrand with screen protector, but its $80, seems way too high.

Anyone grab a screen protector they want to recommend?

I grabbed the Jsaux ones (3 for 9.5€, alignment kit included in the package, very good quality, can't even tell it's applied).

Amfilm also makes good ones.

Don't spend over 10 Eurodollars for this stuff, I saw the Spigen ones going for...30 and I just cringed.

I got the Jsaux matte one. Not sure if I like it or not. The image looks a little skewed but I can't tell if that is just the screen or the protector. I have the same type Jsaux matte on my Rog Ally and it looks fine.
