I waited for the usual people to make this thread, but crickets, so...

Source: Meta Will Announce an Xbox Quest 3S Next Week

According to our sources, Meta will be shadow dropping an Xbox branded Meta Quest 3S on Tuesday, June 24. This follows a recent report from Windows Central that Xbox sidelined their first party handheld "Project Keenan" to focus on Windows 11 optimization for gaming and allocating more efforts into third party partner devices like the ROG Xbox Ally X.

What is the Xbox Meta Quest 3S?

Our source also claims the Xbox Quest 3S will be priced at $399. The contents of this release include a black and green headset with matching accessories, an Elite Strap, an Xbox wireless controller, and three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Internally, it will have the same standard system memory of the Meta Quest 3S at 128GB. Essentially, it's a newly colored Meta Quest 3S with various Xbox add-ons.
In recent years, Xbox brought Game Pass to Meta Quest headsets with various titles like Forza Motorsport and Starfield playable on the headset through Xbox Cloud Gaming. This new branded device will not make any of those games natively playable, so you still have to rely on streaming through this route. Upon the launch of the recent "This is an Xbox" campaign, Meta Quest was brought up as a point of emphasis where they'd like to get more of their games playable, along with another place to access Game Pass. Xbox has never really showed any interest in getting into the VR market, but they love pushing Game Pass. Having the subscription on more platforms is a boon to them.
Xbox's continued focus on putting their games on as many platforms as humanly possible is proving to be one that has resulted in a lot more sales of their games on platforms like PlayStation 5, but we have yet to see how this will impact Game Pass moving forward. With things like the ROG Ally and any VR headset being a very niche device, we would be surprised if there is any big bump in subscribers when these products come out.

Worth mentioning that Meta already announced this last year:

  • Xbox and Meta teamed up last year to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) to Meta Quest, letting people play Xbox games on a large 2D virtual screen in mixed reality. Now, we're working together again to create a limited-edition Meta Quest, inspired by Xbox.

Not an actual product render.

Legitimately don't understand xbox's plan at this point. Is it just to devalue your brand to the point of extinction by plastering the xbox logo on every piece of hardware imaginable no matter if it's going to make money nor be good. Like everytime i hear an xbox hardware rumor, i'm left absolutely baffled as to what the hell they're doing.

Ah yes, Meta, who reported a $4.2 billion loss in the first quarter of 2025, is a perfect partner for xbox to lose more money with.

Just because MS has deep pockets doesn't mean they don't have a gambling problem

Could have sworn they already did that. Fine with me. Some optional VR modes would be nice for the FPS games.
That is never gonna happen. This is just gonna be the same Meta Quest we already have with what I'm assuming to be a black and green colour scheme like that mockup and maybe a Xbox button on the controller.

Just like the Xbox Ally is essentially just a ROG Ally successor with a Xbox logo.

Not even that, really. It's including a standard Xbox Series controller. Remember when the Oculus Rift shipped with a Xbox One controller?

I wouldn't be completely shocked to see them do an update for 1 game. They have done multiple Quest promo things. But you're probably correct.

I think they'll have to go back and add gyro to most of their shooters if they ever get that new controller out

They think the Xbox brand is worth anything.

Kind of sad how delusional they are honestly.

They need VR modes that are in 3D. 2D gaming is fine but 3D is on a whole different level in VR, unlike shitty 3dtv effects.

I actually wonder if people that never used VR think it looks like that.

Sell as much software on as many devices as possible.

Not that hard man.

In the best timeline, this would mean Microsoft's multiplatform strategy will include Meta Quest, so they would be publishing VR versions of Halo, Forza, Doom, Gears, etc. for the headset. But we don't live in the best timeline, so eh. 🤷‍♂️

Is this going to become a vr option / accessory for series s and x consoles? Would be good to have more vr on consoles. But I don't see anything suggesting it will be akin to psvr2. what's the branding point if it isn't series version of vr headset? I don't get it. People will definitely get confused.

Color scheme is rad…will get one just for that.

The quest series of headsets has been able to run the Xbox games app for at least a year.

You stream games (non vr games from the Xbox app) over the headset and use a connected controller to play them.

Are people expecting Xbox to release VR games or something?

it looks nice I guess... but it's a very weird and confusing way to name it ngl.

if it's actually really cheap it could also be a great deal I guess.

And another step in make a brand weaker and bland... I'm sure Xbox in 5 years (even less) will be as important to the market... as 'Surface' is for notebooks.

I guess it's kind of an okay deal if you were grabbing a 3S anyway. The system is $300, the elite strap is $70 and the Xbox controller is about $50. Except the official elite strap is overpriced and is worse than 3rd party straps.

I've been waiting for that controller as it honestly sounds like the perfect controller.
