Microsoft has announced job cuts at Xbox Division

Phil really going to step down once next Xbox launches?

That rumor is wild:
-A new Xbox?! Lol
-Phil finally getting the axe!? Praise be.

This has been the most disastrous day for Xbox since E3 2013

And it's not over yet

We already know Xbox is a profitable business now, that wasn't always the case.

You have yet to show any evidence of this assertion that we supposedly "already know". And you can't, because Microsoft purposely obfuscates their numbers by division in their quarterly reporting.

Most of these people probably work from home and contribute little or nothing, just like in every big corporation these days.

When you are getting clear and obvious signals (to add, over long periods of time) from the market that it doesn't want something to the degree that you need them to want it in order to ensure the sustainability and success of your business model, but you decide to continue (and continue to do the same things) regardless then yes, it does come down to your incompetence as a business owner when it fails.

But this is what happens when you envelop yourself in hubris, surround yourself with yes-men and manipulate your remaining fanbase in to being nothing more than an obedient cult. If you get rid of any avenues for negative feedback to enter your sphere of consciousness then it doesn't exist right?
Toxic Positivity™ strikes again.

Are you insinuating that the Xbox division isn't profitable? A business nearly 25 years old within Microsoft and still operating is not profitable? 🤣

We already know Xbox is a profitable business now, that wasn't always the case. The chart is more to show how Spencer has actually improved the business over his term, you know actual facts something that doesn't fit your bias.

I have no bias. Your claimed you had a link to their profits. I looked at the link and there was no profits listed. Then you have hubris to talk about "facts" and say that I'm biased? You are sharing a link that doesn't show profits even though you said it did. Maybe your the one with a bias here?

I don't know anything about Xbox and their profits because they wont report it. If you have proof they are a profitable buisness show me. Don't just make a claim, start pointing me towards those facts you got.

BOOM

RIP Turn 10. Thanks for turning my beloved sim racer into live service slop.

The people in charge there can eat shit as far as I'm concerned. Completely destroyed what was once an amazing racing franchise with incredible potential.

I'd been saying change to the team was needed more than anyone before a lot of people started to realise the trajectory they were on:

Yes, it's all because it's an Xbox game, I mean it's not like the following have happened:

  • VIP rewards were made consumable mods without informing the loyal fans of the series who flocked to pre order that version of the game.
  • When this was uncovered they have since cleaned up FM.net deleting any thread that wants to talk about this and ask why they thought it was ok to deceive their fans.
  • Dan Greenawalt responds on Twitter with this IDGAF handslap.
  • They've also removed the credit rewards for players who like to play with assists off, thus making it more difficult to earn credits (because credits can be used to buy lootboxes)
  • This then means that those who only want to play online will have a more difficult time of getting credits
  • Car prices have been increased
  • Manufacterer affinity is also gone
  • Certain cars/items can only be obtained from lootboxes
  • They have delayed introducing the option of purchasing lootboxes until after the reviews are in.

If you want to read more then there is also this post on Reddit which summarises a lot of what's going on:

You can also go to Forza's official forums where people are discussing these issues (when the threads aren't getting deleted).

Of course, there are some people who can turn a blind eye to all of this and just enjoy the game (credit to them, but that doesn't mean everybody should). Unfortunately for you this thread exists to discuss how this disgusting practice is altering game design in the name of physiologically manipulating players to spend money in a gambling simulator with a $60-$10 entrance fee (those who spend $100 now get some extra free spins, yay!). This latest example this year is Forza 7 which so happens to be an Xbox exclusive.

So if this thread or any of the information in this post makes you feel uncomfortable, or makes you wonder why people are saying bad things about Xbox/Microsoft then please tweet Phil Spencer, tweet Major Nelson, tweet Dan Greenawalt and ask them why they are doing this.

I got 3 minutes in and I can't bear to watch Dan anymore. I'm tired of hearing the same stuff over and over with a few new cliches thrown in for good measure.

He is just PR PR PR. I'm sure there's a real person under there somewhere but I'm not seeing it.

Eventually got banned from the alpha ring for daring to give honest feedback on the Motorsport games.

So to Dan Greenawalt, his stooges, the mods on Forza.net and all the dumbasses/shills who have defended them to the point where this is the outcome:

Then enlighten us sir
The contingency plan for projects that are making it out the other end of this is to supplement the loss of manpower & experience by training management of all levels on proper applications of CoPilot/ChatGPT. Videos on how to prompt LLMs for assets and new potential workflows are being produced as we speak.

In layman's terms: the expectation is the surviving projects will come out on time tables, now at lower budget levels, and at quality levels that were established before the cuts.

Also - this is not the last round of layoffs for XGS by a long shot.

Jesus Christ.

So I'm hearing Redfall quality is back on the table then.

Ok, thank you.

As an Xbox fan this is the best day in a long time.
I can't believe how long they were paying the Everwild team to figure out what kind of game they wanted it to be. It was a good scam while it lasted though.
As for Perfect Dark, I'm so happy that manjaw Joanna got canceled.

Considering today's events, yeah.
I have been told in clear terms that, outside of a few quarters in the 2nd half of the 360's lifecycle, the only time Xbox has operated at something resembling profitability was after ABK's earnings were integrated into their reporting.

It is not hyperbole to suggest that Xbox as a division likely would've become simply 'Microsoft Gaming' as a brand and had all of their HW positions folded over, with a handful of software studios (think Mojang tier) remaining on the studio front, had the ABK merger not gone through.

Based on the convos i've had, I think the future of Xbox overall is likely a combination of a handful of teams at the tier of Blizzard, CoD, and Minecraft, with a slow-bleed of every other team and studio slowly dying off as layoffs and budget cuts reduce everything as time marches forward.
