I just spat on my screen. I needed you to know.

Et tu, Destin?

This isn't new though:

At this stage I can only conclude that these guys (Destin & Co) are utter idiots. This has been going on for well over 10 years now.

How do Phil and Co. still have jobs after years and years of fuck ups and not being able to read the room? The entire management at Xbox is a joke.

I love seeing this, in a sense. Reputable gaming websites, former employees or even people in the industry should take it to the Big M and they absolutely should be taken to task for what they did.

Swen Vincke went after some(not MS) last year at the TGAs. I guarantee you him or someone else will at the TGAs. I personally think Keighley should tell Spencer he isnt welcome, but I imagine he doesn't have the spine.

Funny how Jez Corden is suddenly not so nice to Microsoft after being called out by Avellone

It's crazy that he blames Nadella for this and not the mismanagement of xbox from its higher ups. I guess that's the bridge he doesn't want to burn while "attacking MS". All Nadella has done is give xbox chance after chance and literally gave them upwards of $90B cash from other divisions to buy up most of the US games industry. Yet xbox management still can't do anything right and actually manage projects properly.

The only answer can be they're not perceived as fuck-ups by overlord Nadella and chief bean counter Hood; Phil & Co. must be pretty much performing as requested required, however disingenuous it appears and sickeningly unpalatable it is for die hard, long-term xbox console fans to witness and experience.

There's been a very loose leash at times from Spencer in regards to projects that drain funds and offer meagre returns. An avalanche that was enveloping him. Reining in these unruly teams and their pesky projects is too difficult a task - it's better for the balance sheet to just put a bullet to their heads.

2 years ago I said this:

Astonishingly, it's worse than I would have ever imagined.

I believe you, myself, and a number of others in that acquisition thread suggested that it would be in Microsoft's best interest to kick Xbox management out and install Kotick as the new head of their gaming division.

Was he a piece of shit? Yes. But so is Xbox's leadership. At least with him you'd have had someone with a proven track record of knowing quality and money when he sees it.

I know some people worried that he would just turn the company into a pipeline that only really focused on a handful of franchises. But that's not any different than what Microsoft is speeding towards now.

He probably would have navigated the shitty situation Xbox put itself in so much better and put them in a much stronger position. Fuck, there's an outside chance he could have turned things around.

He also had no issue calling out Microsoft for having not a drop of creativity in its blood. Something many gamers have said for years and something many others pushed back against. Like I said, hate him all you want, he saw shit clearly.

I really don't understand why anyone would even want to work for these guys. Doesn't matter if you do well or bad on your game. Anything your boss says is probably a lie. You'd be going into a company knowing that the management is absolutely dog shit.

I can definitely see Kotick trying to buy some stuff back from MS at some point. It really doesn't feel like they know what they're doing here and an impatient upper management might want out of gaming at some point.

This didnt turn out to be the disaster that people predicted. Cancellation of PD sucks, but thats about it. I couldnt care less about the unannounced projects and firing teams that dont deliver after years of getting their money for nothing.

It all turned out to be a lot of hoopla over very little.

Getting an indication that PlayStation is moving towards a multi-platform strategy as well was the biggest bomb in all of the recent events. Big changes might be coming for PS with master accountant Totoki-san at the helm.

Yep, he may be a piece of shit, but the guy had the skills, the taste and the experience to recognize good from bad and avoid fucking himself and countless others in the ass FOR DECADES. He's in no way an EA Andrew Wilson, who was a webpage salesman dropped head on on FIFA and Madden going up like a rocket, but an Overlord, one of the foremost who through his decissions made not only Activision, but the videogame medium, what it has been through 3 decades at the helm.

If he was asked to do whale shit to empty whales pockets, he could, he pretty much invented it together with others.

And if he was asked to seed, nurture, create and diseminate teams who would finally build MS a library of banger after banger after banger so Xbox could be held together with beloved Nintendo, Sony, etc as a true artistic entertainment outfit instead of the obnoxious cool chadbro howdoyoudofellowkidsgivemeyourmoney tryhards they have always been perceived to be, he could...

Because along with others, he pretty much invented it, or had the keen eye to recognize which ones would invent it for him, and rake it in as he went forward through the decades🤷🏻‍♂️

Contrast that with Booty, Greenberg, Spender, Sarah and other smiley subhumans who were given massive amounts of power, financing, intellectual properties and creative workforces coming out of a good generation with massive amounts of goodwill towards Xbox (360), and have been royally fucking it up so massively even their most staunchest supporters are starting to gather around the rising flames to enjoy the MASSIVE AND GROWING dumpster fire. 🙉🔥

Cancelled Perfect Dark, Everwild, Zenimax MMO, closed Initiative and all but gutted Turn 10. Did I miss anything? Certaily far worse than I expected.
But PS games are moving towards multiplatform! Biggest bomb!
Even though we've known for more than a year that GaaShite will be multiplat.

For me personally nothing of value was lost here from a gamers perspective as none of those games appealed to me especially after what T10 did to Forza.

I understand some may have been looking forward to those games but nothing we saw impressed me

I know cold hearted and all that

Just focus on Halo 7, Dead or Alive 7, a new Duke Nukem, Timesplitters 4, Prototype 3, Dishonored 3, Fallout 3 Remaster/Remake, and Fallout New Vegas remaster/remake.

Surprised Ninja Theory are untouched at this point. HB2 didn't exactly set the world alight. Apparently their next game (outside Project Mara) was already greenlit, so they must have something with potential to escape the cuts so far. Either that or they're seeing how the PS5 Enhanced release goes, or even worse, MS just want them to finish that up before getting canned or trimmed.

How many more thousands of employees need to be cut before this is a disaster?

One of his favourite games that he stans for (Forza MS) got gutted and he's brushing it off as nothing to damage control. I don't think it matters to him that 9000 people were fired, it could have been 50,000 and it would have made little difference.

But in all seriousness, you're beyond fucking stupid.

And layoff in several other studios: Halo Studios, Compulsion Games, Raven Studios, Undead Labs.

And canceled XGS publishing games that resulted in those studios shutting off completely.

You could say that about most/all of MS's devs though. Even Bethesda has fallen greatly over the years.

The truth is that Bethesda and ABK were already falling off a cliff before MS purchased them. CoD was in a bad place for a good while, with Infinity Ward causing a bit of a resurgence in 2019. Diablo and Overwatch were in bad spots too. Fallout 76 launched as a wreck, and Starfield would likely always turn out what it became.

Its just that MS isn't the right company to turn this around and make it good. We've seen Xbox exclusives going from bad to worse, and they greenlight shit like Redfall, calling it good internally. MS mismanages a lot. They mismanaged Halo, Forza Motorsport and to some extent Gears of War. They simply continue doing this with ABK and Zenimax.

Simply put they did a purchase, but they actually didn't have the proper vision and people to deal with it and they failed to let it grow their market share.

Under Sony these studios might've thrived. I know they get a lot of rightful flak for their GaaS mismanagement but they still put out Returnal, GT7, Astro Bot, Ragnarok, Spider Man 2 and Horizon 2 to name a few. The latter are disappointing sequels, but no fundamentally bad games like Redfall, the Ninja Theory shit, Halo and Forza 8. I'm sure the new ND game will deliver as well, as will Yotei though they might not be for me. Under Nintendo they might've been held on a better leash too (like how they made Retro Studios look good), though they chase a different gaming experience.

I too really enjoyed Ori and sadly one thing I remember about it was how gorgeous it looked on an OLED TV
It still looks freakin' gorgeous on my OLED. It's actually one of the first games I reinstalled when I got my OLED a while back, just to experience it again and to see how it looks.

Didn't disappoint.

more info:

Lol, now Colantonio. I bet while they're designing the game, Avellone passed him some of that good fuckpeopleup powder and told him 'here, since we making an immersive sim, immerse your sinuses in this' 😤

We're gathering quite a varied and happy wild bunch ready to fuck people and careers, and with reason.

The humongous PR damage this not only has done to the paid shills, but to the Xbrand as a whole, is a beauty to look at. 😍

I'm surprised to see some people saying the cuts were worse than they expected. I thought it was going to be worse than this. I thought we would see more studios closed and more info on layoffs in the hardware team. I was expecting the games division to basically get cut down to just a handful of IPs.

Not that I wanted to see any of it. I feel for the people who were laid off. I just thought the situation was more dire than it seems to be based on the cuts we just saw.
