Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

Neil is done with the show. This is basically what I had feared all this time. Their studio head and main director was off palling around with hollywood stars making tv shows while his studio spent 5 years jerking off making a total of zero new games. Crazy how one guy ruined the entire output of arguably the most talented studio in the industry.

6-7 years for a new IP is not outrageous for a premiere studio like Naughty Dog. CDPR and Rockstar will both be releasing their next games 7 or 8 years since their last release

If you want to put TLOU online on Druckmann, fine, but he was never directing that game

Tbh I don't need constant output, I want quality. I rather a have a few TLOU 2's and GTA 6's per generation than a bunch of non next gen slop. I love when developers take their time on games and truly make them next level (and "next gen"). Nothing compares to TLOU 2 as far as quality and production values in my opinion. Some games are elite level quality like Death Stranding, Spiderman, Hellblade 2, Alan Wake 2, Horizon Forbidden West and many more.

They released nothing but quality games from 2011 to 2020. U3, tlou, u4, lost legacy and tlou2. That's five games in a decade. Intergalactic is likely a 2027 title. And their next game will be 2034.

One game per decade isn't enough for me. They need to go back to being more productive.

Neil leaving HBO, and the studio cancelling the online GAAS trash is nothing but good news - Shows me where their focus is at. They are all in on making 2 brand new single player games. Theres zero distractions and and its full steam ahead

What you can't complain about are the animations, at least in Photo Mode they are super realistic.


Animations during cutscenes are mocapped. They are brought in 1:1.

When people talk about animations, they mean gameplay animations which need a lot of extra work by animators in order to look better during gameplay. The animations are virtually unchanged from DS1 6 years ago.

i played this game at 30 fps all settings set to cinematic lol. worth it.

they say never turn all setting to ultra or max because it makes very little difference, but in my experience with outlaws and wukong, it made all the difference. the post processing and that extra bit of volumentric lighting just elevates it to the next level.

There's definitely animation changes in DS2, some more subtle than others, some complete reuses, some new, but even the sprinting animation is different in DS2 and looks more akin to Snake's posture in Phantom Pain.

Man, I didn't realize how great Avowed looks. Game is constantly really gorgeous. It looks so much better than what we've seen of The Outer Worlds 2.

Avowed just has an ugly art style that holds back its fantastic lumen and nanite implementation at times. It's this weird purple modern rainbow art style that has been prevalent this gen in games like Dragon Age, Redfall, Deathloop, etc.

The world itself is beautifully detailed. Lumen (especially the hardware version on PC) handles all the AO and indirect lighting very gracefully. When it looks good, it looks magnificent but then the animations are garbage and you get into a fight and the game turns into a purple rainbow mess. I never got past the first level so I missed out on the fantastic rock level but there is a purple level in the game later on that looks straight up offensive.

Slightly different art style and the game wouldve made waves in the graphics community. The level of detail is really that good.

But they were literally not cooking for the last five years while Neil was out making tv shows. They sat there fucking around with another studios' last gen remake, fucked around with a multiplayer game that got cancelled, fucked around with Sony Bend's Uncharted spin until that got cancelled, and produced a total of 3 minutes of cutscenes for the intergallactic reveal. The same studio that literally five years ago had released 3 games in the previous 5 years.

The director and literally the studio CEO cannot be away for five years and still have his studio produce games. This new announcement from Neil literally proves me right. It took him five fucking years to realize that. Five years where his studio produced fuck all.

I understand the need to have a defense force for everything, but defending a guy who literally abandoned his studio to go chase his hollywood dreams? Come the fuck on. THey are literally the most awarded studio in history with GOTY wins for U2, U4, TLOU1 and TLOU2 topping Rockstar, CD Project, and Nintendo tallies. And this guy fucking abandoned it the day after he became studio head.

That's a shame, I really liked the 1st - minus story - that was for me the best part for me, slowly getting upgrades and vehicles and also it wasn't exactly challenging, seems that every reviewer fails to mention these things. Easier just bums me out hard.

Don't know which reviewer said something like, everything is better than the 1st, but the changes are surface-level, the same as before, combat not challenging, but then shifts to that DS was always good and then ending with "Kojima did it again"
Lol, what? Which is it? This seems like a "Kojima made this game, therefore it must be brilliant" and that doesn't cut it for me, I'm one that really doesn't care who makes what game.

Damn shame this game got buried under the 'usual' avalanche of internet commentary.

It's a great looking, good playing, game that offers all the UE5 bells and whistles. Even the 60hz mode has RTGI on base level consoles.

I played through this on the 40hz mode which has both Lumen GI and reflections and the game definitely looked the part.

I passed on it at launch as I just wasn't in the mood for this type of game, but I've put 5-6 hours in over the last couple days and I'm hooked. It's really a terrific game and it's a shame how much it's been slept on.

Not just graphics and animations.. Tone, explosions, gameplay all look great.

Cant wait to play it. Another game everyone thought was vaporware until it was actually real. Cant wait to see what China/South Korea do with the shooter/stealth genre.

I can already see it now... That John Wick style game that everyone wants that doesnt exist yet.. some random chinese studio is going to make it and itll blow up

Gothic is german game but here in poland we got vivid fans community for that series too, among pc crowds gothic had(and still has) same love/nostalgia like diablo/elder scroll series, aka ppl play it even today with mods for hundreds if not tousands of hours :)
American players call it "eurojank" but cant be helped, we love what we love, that remaster gonna be pure :messenger_fire:

Next gen graphics should definitely hit this level and beyond as standard next gen. As you can see, there is a loooong way to go for real time visuals, sometimes people forget how far realtime visuals have to go…

Yeah, I am really excited for Physint after playing DS2. The animations are absolute top tier. The smallest of details are displayed.

DS2 gunplay is fun, but it is very clearly limited due to all of the delivery mechanics the game is also focused on. You can tell the talent of the studio is the same if not better than the developers that made MGSV

Depends on how you look at it. Small scale walking simulator? Not totally impossible. Big booty open world? Hardwares are too weak to handle it. And let's just say ten years from now on , even if engine and hardware vendors are actually doing everything they can to make things easier to materialize , you can bet most devs will just come up with all kinds of petty reasons to against the wave and still boasting about their own greatest visual efforts

Also now we are gonna get gta6 in hand before rtx racer actually come to light, pretty bizarre don't you think😅 Almost feel like it's the nvidia equivalent of 2077 level fake trailer scam at this point

Lol gta vi did that this gen, looks better in many aspects than hb2(like rtgi and ray tracing overall quality) on base ps5, so it's very likely to have those graphics on open world games on UE6 or rockstar, but for sony fuc.ers I don't know this gen they don't have anything that looks better than this graduation game project on ue5, lol

This makes me want a new Team Ico/Gen Design game. The Last Guardian was kind of a mess technically but I do think we'll get something similar to this video from them for their next game.
 
What the hell? This is a game? What is UE5 doing that other engines aren't to get results like these. I feel like GTA6 is the only one that has surpassed it, while at this point last gen many had surpassed UE4

Real time global illumination. This is what most other game engines are not doing.

Whole discussion here is about Sony games being stuck in PS4 era.
