I remember thinking the recent Hellraiser was good, but for some reason, I can't remember a single fucking thing about it

Probably not a great sign

I should really revisit the series, Hellraiser is dope

That was absolutely fucking dog water :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Fuck me was that shit. Absolutely insulting in everyway possible.

I hope Weapons is everything it's cracked up to be.
🤣 It's polarizing. I honestly don't get the hate but different strokes and all that. Take me for example I couldn't bring myself to watch Nosferatu or Sinners (even though I was initially hyped sinners when I thought it'd be a properhorror movie) that's how convinced I was I wouldnt like either.

You like your steak past medium rare your opinion is null and void sir.

I Dont Care Whatever GIF by Joey Bada$$

How many are there? The most recent one I never finished, and I seem to recall one set in space, didn't really care for it. Probably due for a rewatch myself, good idea because that new game looks siiiiiiiiick.
There's eleven movies lol. I'm worried about the quality of the later ones, but I wouldn't want to skip them if they expand the lore in some meaningful ways.

Just watch 1+2 the rest are various levels of shit. Depends on your tolerance for that kind of thing though, I'll watch anything for example.

They are showing their age a fair bit these days though.

Didn't care for the most recent reboot or whatever it claimed to be.

I thought Barbarian was half a good movie. Hopefully Weapons is better as it looks the part.
Yes! That first half? :messenger_ok:

The second?

I'm the same with Sinners, but I'll give that Nosfereratu a watch later

This one is supposed to be really good.

Now that I have to see! Cheers for the nudge 🍻

Looks like we have a new V/H/S coming soon. While hit and miss, I still really enjoy these.

I gave up after the second movie, feels like a combination of low budget and mostly amateur shorts that didn't get greenlit. At least they turned Siren into a full movie.

There's just something about blurry old vhs footage that rings my bell. You can do alot with very little, practical effects wise.

Some of the shorts are a complete miss but you only waste 10-15 minutes if thats the case.

The fact that I like low budget B horror movies probably helps.

It was pure bunk wasn't it :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Plot holes bigger than the sun, and that ending?

Oh hell no.
Absolute garbage movie. I saw it without reading up on it prior and thought it was an absolute mess of random generic tropes bolted together with one of the shittiest endings in recent memory. Turns out later it's widely considered great, I was truly baffled.

To each their own but I hated it on every level. I particularly hated the "idyllic Americana" flashback sequence.

I'm going to give Heretic a watch tonight. People have been recommending it to me.
REALLY liked this one. A lot. Hugh Grant should have been nominated. He's so very good in this. EDIT: Didn't recognize Forman in this at ALL.

Came here because I've been on a rewatching binge of Japanese Horror. Everything from Onibaba and Kuroneko to watching Noroi: The Curse last night.

Pretty cool take on the found footage genre. It's painfully slow and overly dramatic at points but I still enjoyed it and thought it was worth watching. Usually not a big fan of this genre but this was one of the better entries I thought. I'd say a 6.5 or 7/10.

Thats exactly what I did

And that's exactly what I'd heard! I honestly can't see it personally, that ending, sheesh..!! :messenger_unamused:

I weirdly liked that scene, aye it was so stereo typical, but it was shot in a very unique way, but then just ended up being a big fat meh, like the rest..

The more I think of this damn film the more it pisses me off :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The wife and kid are away for a while and im off, so I'm using the time to catch up on horrors, we, well I, don't normally watch them anymore due to them both being utter softies.. 👀

I stuck this on this morning with breakfast.. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Yeah, that was erm, a film, at least. Utterly by the book shlock horror. The premise was good, the flashback to the old Irish.. 'tradition' was pretty good..

I loved the way he just grabbed his 'three' kids out of thousands and just fucks off. And you never get the pay off from the other families receiving their kids back either.. god dammit!

Rating: Bilge.

That clip trimmed out the loooooong build-up of the nurse doing mundane things before that zoom jump scare. Genius filmmaking in an era when folks could actually watch a single screen for more than 5 seconds without needing to look at a different screen.
Who better to direct the film than the actual writer. William Peter Blatty(rip) was amazing. What I loved about Exorcist 3 is that it masterfully builds up to it's scares an the movie knows when to shut the fuck up and just let a scene go on without some dramatic music score. I love the movie so much, I've watched it over and over. I know what I'm watching this weekend again.

I'm a huge fan of Exorcist 3 as well. My old roommate and I had a tape of it and would watch it all the time. It's just an eerie movie on every level. The whole concept of the catatonic patients is so fucking creepy on that deep uncomfortable level. So many surreal visuals too.

I've been wanting to check out the original ending, I think it's available on some reissue or some shit by now? I read the book ages ago as well but funny enough, I liked the movie much more. A rare occurence.

this is indeed a hidden gem.

The final scene with the kid freaked me the fuck out bad. I was seeing that face / mask thing in my dreams for weeks 🤣

Yea the last...10 minutes are what turned it around for me. Not the greatest compliment for a pretty long movie for its ilk. Before that, the third act almost blew it with the emphasis on the supremely annoying tinfoil dude lol.

Yes it's available on the Blu-Ray, they actually found the original cut and it was put on as well. Warner Brothers really did this movie a disservice by renaming it Exorcist. The original cut doesn't even start as The Exorcist 3, it only says Legion(it was the follow up book to the original Exorcist). It well worth getting, I love the movie so much. Glad there are people that also like it. For so long I thought I was the only one who actually loved it.

I agree. And the franchise was in the shitter after Exorcist II anyway. Legion is also a sick name. I always read it sticks closer to the book and doesn't feature the gory exorcism scene as mandated by the studio. Makes sense since that's not in the book.

Fun fact, Ministry sampled that nurse jump scare sound effect on Psalm 69. I think the track is Scarecrow.

Now then. This was excellent. Hard to describe as its not a straight horror. Quite funny.

Maybe a Black romantic body horror fable? I dunno, watch it if you get chance, just not with the Mrs.

8.5/10.

Don't watch the trailer, its nothing like the movie and you might come away disappointed.

I haven't watched this but I got a companion vibe from it. Even though companion isn't body horror. I think I'll pass on this one

Couldn't be further from Companion if it tried. Like I said the trailer is nothing like the actual movie.

Why not with the wife? Too much sexy Brie nudity to get her jealous or too gross for dainty lady eyes?

Neither. Without too much of the old spoilers it starts off about a couple that have been together ages but have grown apart.

If your solid with the other half you'll be good. If not could be quite an uncomfortable watch lol.

I meant in that deals with dysfunctional relationships but I could be wrong about that. I'll watch it on your rec.

Decided to re-watch Hooper's 1974 masterpiece today..

By now everyone knows Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the impact it had on the horror genre. I had forgotten just how good it is, dark and oppressing. The scene where the disabled guy is maimed early on, a deliberate plot device and foreshadowing to show that the people of this backwater are completely void of any empathy or sanity.

As the film progresses I realise very few movies have managed to capture the atmosphere this film has. Even Hooper himself was never able to replicate or reproduce his own quality of work afterwards, truly a magnum opus of his fairly short career.
