Another thing I hated about Weapons

Some of the houses had cameras but I guess none of houses on the block of the house they ran to had cameras because if they did they would have found them easily.

I hope you understand what I'm getting at. IF you pressed me for films that my aforementioned reasoning befit a 10/10 for both subjective and objective level, well that list is extremely short.
I can think of a handful of horror films that are 10/10. No remake or changes could make them better.

Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
The Shining (1980)
Leviathan (1989)
Jacob's Ladder (1990)
Dark Water (2002)

I hate that I went into this movie with high expectations based on the raving reviews. It was entertaining, but nothing more than that.

People had also hyped up the ending as something special and I was like "that's it?" I can't even begin to describe how bored I got once it was revealed she was a witch.

It was just so campy and the whole town just going about their business.

Yeah it was way overhyped

Didn't realise at the time of watching that they are married in real life but it really shows on screen.

Yeah, I Googled the film after watching and found out they were married. I thought both of them were great. Also really liked the creepy teacher. I think this might be my fave horror from the last few years.

well... just back from Conjuring last rites

Sadly it didn't quite hit the mark for me. After how good Weapons and Bring her back were this felt incredibly run of the mill and tired.

Jesus christ I regret my decision to watch this from the backlog.

I didn't know all that much about it outside of people saying it was very disturbing but not in a good way. They were not fucking kidding

I feel like I need to bleech my eyeballs.

absolutely terrible. It's not even good in a 'so bad it's good' way, it's just pure gratuitous trash.

I really like the first two Conjuring films. Third one is alright. Disappointing to hear this one isn't very good.

I haven't seen this. I watched Cannibal Holocaust and I noped out after the turtle bit. Is this worse?

There's no snuff type parts in it but it's very dark, especially the ending. It's not for everyone, myself included, and the subject matter is very much not for the faint of heart. From what I remember there isn't really any story as such beyond what's essentially a very basic premise and it used shock factor scenes instead of actually being good in order to get people talking about it.

I'll give it a miss then! Defintiely not my type of horror.

it's fucking infinitely worse.

I dont even want to describe a particular scene that is in it, lets just say a newborn baby is involved.
A baby? Yeah, that's a no then.

Saw barbarian the other night and loved it because I was able to avoid spoilers. Next up for me is together and then weapons when it hits digital.

I watched Weapons the previous night. I loved it and was surprised by how comedic a lot of the movie was

These scenes especially had me dying

When gay Wong gets enchanted by the villian to go after Julie Garner character in the movie and just showing the close up of him running with hinm showing in the most random places with people going WTF had me dying

And the whole scene of the villain getting a uno reversal with the kid knowing how to use the magic against her was pretty funny. It was just the shot of her running away from the magically possessed kids and them barging into other house while following her was hilarious that I was crying with laughter. It was just the way it was shot that I felt the comedic elements of this movie was a good surprise. The villian ended up being a one trick pony though, once the kids got her, she went down quickly. She got her comeuppance

Together was fantastic. Great to watch with your girlfriend, but also could be a relationship tester. Body horror making a comeback, but this one is a little more tame than the Substance.

C'mon, it is widely known this is one of the sickest movies ever made
Just reading reviews is enough, not gonna watch it ever

I loved Amulet flew under the radar of most people. Bring Her Back best horror movie in forever imo. Didn't watch 28 years later. I really enjoyed Companion even though it wasn't really horror I'd give it 3 or 3.5 out of 5

I should have hated this but I had a good time with it by the end. Practical effects a plenty. You can tell they spend a ton on the Intestines prosthetic and they damn well wanted their moneys worth lol. If you don't enjoy low budget horror then avoid.

Worth it for the last 20 minutes alone. 3/5.

Bonus half point for Nelix from Voyager being in it.

I think it probably falls into the category of "spooky thriller" rather than horror, but I enjoyed McTiernan's "Nomads".

Ads for this were all over the horror film/fangoria mags I used to read as a kid. Must have passed by it a thousand times in vhs rental stores, not sure if I've ever seen it though.

Yikes, was talking to friends yesterday about gross movies and of course this came up. I watched a movie that was along the same lines in terms of disturbing shit but I forget the name of it…I think it came out before A Serbian Film if I recall…anyway, it's been a long time and I'll obviously never watch it again but the movie I saw included a dead kid full of maggots in a bath tub and near the end these people had a person kidnapped in a basement, tied to a chair, and a guy slashed their stomach open and started fucking it….now I'm not normally bothered by gore but there is just some shit that is above and beyond and no one has to see it….

Although I would recommend a DVD or legitimate VOD, I'm pretty sure this one is available for free on Youtube. I haven't looked at it, so I can't say whether or not it's been edited. Good movie, though.

Amazon in particular has a deep library (that MGM catalogue I guess?) of 'classic' 70's/80's horror titles, whenever I get a few free nights with the wife/kids away, it's time to crack a few beers, get some pizza, and live large :P

And to no suprise, Prime has Nomads for streaming. Added to the watchlist for the next movie night!

Watched The Rule of Jenny Penn (2024) last night, been meaning to get round to it for a while.

More Psychological than straight up horror but decent. The leads where excellent, Lithgow in particular, as always.

8/10

I really loved Creep and Creep 2 - it was a perfect use of found footage and Mark Duplass was absolutely nailing the creepy psychopath persona, oozing with uneasiness.
I've just read that 7 years later he also shot a miniseries - The Creep Tapes. Gonna watch today!

Has anyone watched Scream Queen! My Nightmare on Elm Street? It's a documentary about the second A Nightmare on Elm Street and Mark Patton's experience (he played Jesse). I watched it a few years ago and it's good. I don't think people would be hearing things about the movie that they didn't really figure out by watching it but it's still a good watch, especially if you're a fan of Elm Street.

Anyone have horror collections (figures, shirts, movies, etc)? Would be cool to share.

The twist?
Giant, intelligent bugs live underground. They somehow lure kids to a hole and use their bodies to infiltrate the families. For what reason? I don't know. I believe it was global domination but the impact was so small-scale it seemed like a flawed plan. All I know is they wanted to breed with the strong independent woman that couldn't breed but she ran them over with a truck. Fin. 2/10
You start with a small test bed to see if it would actually work when you have limited resources.

So I watched Nomads last night. Odd flick. Has echoes of the "lawless gangs [are there any other kind?] are a threat" we saw in a lot of 70's thrillers combined with an attempt to create a new supernatural type threat out of the slasher genre. Lots of close-ups of women screaming, damn.

The best thing to come out of it was apparently Arnie saw it and brought McTiernan on for The Predator which kicked off a SPECTACULAR 15 year run of films.

I really enjoyed Creep but never got around to watching the sequel maybe someday
