I read about the update for the PS5, saying it was adding low-power mode and dualsense pairing across multiple devices. So I install the update before playing a PS4 game and noticed increased framerate with artificating. So I decide to try FFXII Zodiac Age, the game I always wanted to play at 60fps and sure enough it's now 60fps with a lot of artifacting though. Was this new feature announced or discussed anywhere? Am I tripping?

Can other people who have updated their PS5 please test this, I'm really shocked by this. I should mention I'm on PS5 Pro.

So I install the update before playing PES 2018 and then I notice that the replays are much smoother then usual, but with added artifacting, particularly around the ball, which is often spinning. I'm intrigued now. Is there a game you don't have that you want me to test from my PS4 collection?

Try anything that is normally locked to 30fps. Might be only on Pro I got no clue.
Maybe someone changed your tv settings?
That's the first thing I checked but all the settings are the same as usual, plus frame gen from the TV introduces a crazy amount of lag which isn't present here.

I wonder if the mode reverts PS4 Pro-supported games back to base PS4 settings?

I've got a PS5 Pro, I'll install Prey and another PS4 game and see what happens. Maybe I'll install Zodiac Age as well. I have the platinum for Final Fantasy 12, I could swear it was always 60FPS

Nah it was locked 30fps sadly, only the XBOX version got a 60fps patch on the One X.

Tested more PS4 games with locked 30fps, they all are frame-gen'd up to 60fps with artifacting. Image quality seems enhanced as well, perhaps due to PSSR upscaling.

Watch this turn out to be a nothing burger 😁

It's probably some TV fuckery 'cause otherwise they would have mentioned it.

OP, you or someone else either activated the motion interpolation option, or, you selected another picture profile on the TV which uses motion interpolation

OP, it's your TV. I'm playing FFXII Zodiac Age now and it's 30fps. No frame gen.

EDIT - Yes, PS5 Pro. Enhance image quality on too.

Nevermind close the thread, it was a glitch in my TV. I switched inputs, then switched back to my PS5 input and it was gone. Sorry for getting people's hopes up including my own.

Holy shit OP, I tried 3 games because of you!

This reminded me that Bloodborne has incredible input lag for 30fps game...

Yeah, we would have surely heard more about this leading up to it.

Would be cool for already 60fps games at 120hz, but latency would feel shitty with a base 30 frames.

I agree, but I said to myself how many people play a 30fps PS4 game on their PS5 Pro right after an update. Just bad timing for a glitch. Right after I updated the PS5. It's definitely a glitch because I checked all of my TV settings and although I've had glitches before on my TV when switching inputs, it was always the colors being off and needed to switch away and back to fix it, but never the smooth motion being turned on. The caveats of owning a Chinese TV I suppose.

Again sorry to everyone, I got too excited.

You should be banned for wasting my time

Android TVs in a nutshell. I miss my old 2014 Bravia and its simple Linux based OS.

My overpriced 2024 Android Bravia has nothing but issues. Sluggish, settings changing by themselves, two minute boot up, cheap plastic build, and bullshit apps that can't be removed without rooting the OS and voiding warranty.
