According to Rockstar Games co-founder, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the studio's best work to date. Many fans will agree with this, considering the title is considered one of the finest open-world story-driven games ever.

During an LA Comic Con interview with IGN, Dan Houser went candid and talked about various Rockstar games titles. He talked about why Bully never got a sequel despite the demand, and also what he considers their best work.

Red Dead 2, I think, was the best thing that I worked on, the best single kind of realization of sort of open-world storytelling thematic consistency, and understanding how the games are assembled to take you on an emotional journey.

– Dan Houser
To this day, Red Dead Redemption 2 is played by many and adored by even more. Rockstar has revealed some plans for another entry, but fans have been looking forward to something new in the series for the longest time.

He further praised GTA 4, stating that it was another project where they tried to evolve storytelling. GTA 5 worked great with 3 protagonists as well, but it has its issues that Houser is well aware of.

Anyhow, Rockstar has proved that it is among the best studios in the industry time and time again. Also, we are now closer than ever to the GTA 6 launch, which is all set to take over the gaming world in almost 8 months.

7 years later still the top tier graphics.

And hands down the best character of all time.

from a mechanical and gameplay perspective I definitely preferred the first one. But graphically it still looks fucking amazing.

(I just wished the online had more mission-related stuff like the first game and that it didnt take them 4+ years ro finally add private lobbies)

I still load it up to just roam around the world because it's that good. Added a few mods as well but overall one of the best games I've ever played

To the surprise of nobody. To this day no other game comes close to the stupid amounts of detail and attention they put into it, every time I play it I find new stuff I had never seen before, it's just mind-boggling.

I completely agree. For me, RDR2 is not only their best, but something that will be difficult to surpass. Characters like Arthur and Sadie are unlikely to ever be repeated together.

The atrocious "weight" feeling of the control on II gave me a very hard time appreciating the game.
Everything was a chore to do. Apart from horse riding, i enjoyed absolutely nothing gameplay wise on RDR2.
I much preferred the first one despite the infinitely better story of 2.

RDR2 is magical. Even if I was the janitor at rockstar during that time I'd be proud to have contributed in some way.

Their best work by a large margin, and the only reason I'm picking up GTA6 is because I want to see the next step in their story telling. I think GTA5 is pretty mid aside from some funny moments. So I'm cautious that it won't surpass RDR2 given the not so serious nature of GTA.

A true masterpiece. And I'm saying this as someone who merely liked it. The amount of attention to detail that was put in that game is unrivalled and I'm not sure how anyone want to top that again.

That said, I hope I live to see a PS5 patch/version which would allow me to replay the game with 60fps.

He's right, best thing R* ever put out, an all-time classic, masterpiece, Game of the Generation. As much as I'm looking forward to GTA6 I don't think they will be able to top the majesty that is RDR2.
In a lot of aspects they probably will. Controls, graphics, open world, cutscenes, attention to detail, gunplay, multiplayer etc.. But story and characters? I doubt they'll top that one. And regarding the soundtrack, I doubt they'll top that one either, as GTA relies heavily on licensed music.
