Halo was done after the 360 gen. Gamers moved on to COD, BF and all the other franchises that came out later on.
Halo is in the same stodgy group as Quake and Unreal. Great MP gaming for their day, but not relevant for a long time. All 3 of these series dropped off a cliff.

The advantage Halo has over Quake and Unreal is that it's always been more geared towards large, open world, sandbox PvEvP.
They have all the ingredients to be relevant again. Quake and Unreal don't.
Plus, the IP (Military Star Wars) just works better than the other two.

I'd agree if not for the crazy amount of hype that generally comes with any kind of crossover with halo. Like this season's battlepass on fortnite including two spartans.
Halo is still relevant, the issue however is with ms cannibalizing themselves (making the xbox brand a laughing stock) and the general criticisms with the last two halo games. Like if halo infinite launched with more content than just 4 modes and a handful of maps, the dropoff probably wouldnt have been severe.
This can be proven with halo mcc, when it was revitalized after 5 flopped, it had intense staying power on steam while it was stillbeing updated.

No point rebooting Halo, either continue with that story or port and crossplay the complete MCC including Halo 5.
Bring back Warzone Fightfight mode but flesh it out even more so it can basically stand alone.

Halo Infinite 2 as a multiplat might be a pipe dream, but one can hope.
I liked The Weapon and would want more.
Halo 5 MP was actually fun even in the modern age, if Infinite 2 or even a stand alone Firefight Warzone could work.
They could in theory mtx the req packs enough to make the game mode profitable by itself.
Is Microsoft Gaming up to the task?
I dont know what the future holds.

Infinite campaign was incredible but no more halo mp for me, awaiting br snipe shots? Greeted at spawn by en enemy, the old maps, halo mp can be magical at times but those moments don't justify playing it daily.

Yet halo still out there and ppl playing and buying. I don't see quake or unreal still being made. Halo still being bought and play. Yes it may not be as high as it was. But it still doing better then more then half of the games that comes out. So it's not dead
