Microsoft revamps Xbox Game Pass plans and hikes Ultimate to $29.99 a month, Ultimate gets Ubisoft+ Classics and more

So does this mean GamePass PC is going away, or is it being incorporated into a different tier or what the hell happens to that?
I only game on PC and that's all I care about. If that gets swallowed, and I'd need to buy Ultimate, I'm defo out too.
I don't mind a price increase tbf, but the day 1 release in ultimate is just plain stupid.
Starting today, nobody will take "Day 1 on GamePass!" announcements serious anymore at events, which was the whole point.
Mind-boggling how MS already is in a brutally losing situation on the gaming market and managed to come up with an idea how to alienate its customers even more.

Oh well, if PC-Pass gets too expensive, I'll just switch to my massive Steam Backlog and stay there for the next foreseeable future ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Edit:
It seems PC-Pass still exists and still gets Day-1 releases, but price changed.
What confuses me is, they say it goes up from 12,99€ to 14,99€... but I've been getting billed 9,99€ since forever.
I'd be fine with 14,99€ if the games keep on coming.
It seems MS only fucked the Console-gamers once more and PC is, more or less, fine for the moment.
If it ever goes above 14,99€, I'm out too.

Lamepass was cheap because the day1 1st party offerings were lame. Now after spending billions gobbling up massive publishers - anyone with a sound mind said the pricing will go through the roof. Still, entertaining nevertheless.

I was already done and had canceled my sub last year. No way will I resubscribe with these prices now. If there was one game that came to game pass day one that I wanted to play, it's cheaper to just buy the damn game sometimes, especially if you go to a key site.

If it wasn't for the good backward compatibility and some games I own that I wanna play someday, I'd really have no reason to keep an xbox series x. Almost no interest in buying newer games on it.

MS is steering away from day one. Which is the best thing they can do. Now you can still have it, but at a premium. 2 something months of GP Ultimate is now the price of a new game so you could question if its worth it for, say, a day one CoD. Perhaps if you plan to play it for only a month.

Relearn to buy games.

True. When I had it running from late 2020 until 2022 I basically only got Forza 5 and Halo I as truly new AAA games. It makes sense that you pay a premium now that you get the whole shebang from Activision and Zenimax.

You know what, I'm done with Game Pass on PC.

It's always a crappy version missing features and patches coming later in the cycle.

Steam it is and that is if I buy the games.

Steam is the only answer. What's the point of a game subscription service that you pour hundreds of dollars in each year and when you cancel that sub you've got zilch for all that money.

Buy a game on Steam and its yours forever.

This reason alone was why I never felt Gamepass on PC ever had any meaningful chance.

The ONLY benefit I found on PC Gamepass was the ability to earn Xbox achievements on many games.

There's that and probably the realisation they won't commence their B.C program anytime soon..

UBi makes some very good and entertaining games.... The dislike some have for them doesn't change that.🤷
They USED to make very good and entertaining games but they have shit the bed since 2020 and they never recovered. They're borderline irrelevant now.

On a different note. This all reinforces my decision to sell my Xbox the moment they went multiplatform; the writing was on the wall. They're slowly boiling the frog so their fans don't notice. We are two years away until they pull the Xbox plug. They'll still have the Xbox PC app, but their Xbox hardware and ecosystem is done.

remember how they assured us that the price wouldn't increase because of the ABK acquisition and their fanboys were parading that around here on GAF as proof that those of us who saw this coming were wrong?

Fuck physical media though. Does GameStop think just cause people are canceling gamepass people are going to go back to buying physical? Fuck that.

I don't miss the days of having my hobby taking up shelves in a room. Shit was embarrassing.

It doesn't have to take up shelves in a room. Sell it or trade it when you are done and get some money back.

My Gamepass is my Steam backlog.
I'm not a big fan of subscription models, but I was thinking about subscribing someday to play some Microsoft titles. With this, I think I'll buy them. It's a shame Gears 4 isn't on Steam.

Xbox should have probably waited to drop this news until Sony wasn't having the best PR week of the year (Wolverine re-reveal + Yotei release). They always time this stuff so poorly.

Gamefly is a better deal now if you want to rent imho. I just checked the pricing and it is better than console gamepass with more options and better games for sure. Former gamepass enjoyers who have access may want to check out gamefly.

Taken from another forum, don't know if he's genuine or not, but damn.
It's sarcasm, you can tell by how he phrased the second sentence.
No matter who is dominant, it's a choice among evils.
Not if Nintendo wins. Nintendo is bae.

Oh Nintendo you came and you gave without takin'
But I sent you away
Oh, Nintendo
Well, you kissed me and stopped me from shakin'
And I need you today
Oh, Nintendo

Well question is, when I no longer rely on gamepass titles on pc, why should use Windows anymore....
I struggled in the last few months the only thing that kept me on Windows was gamepass PC titles. I guess when my subscription is gone (6/2026) I have no reason to stay on Windows...I just need a secure boot compatible Linux distribution and there are enough.

I guess this is their way of trying to spur games sales again to appease publishers and even their bigger studios. Users that would normally buy 1-3 games a year at full retail prices are not going to now pay them $30 a month and they know this. So they lose those people, but likely get back those 1-3 retail buys, while still retaining those that still sees GamePass as a better alternative than buying like 5 or more games a year at near or at full retail prices.

That said, I'm done with GamePass on PC even though I locked in for a bit. I knew hikes were likely coming so as of late I shifted to buying some games on Steam like Silksong so my saves would not be trapped behind the GamePass paywall when I finally cancel due to those hikes.
