The only thing that matters is whether or not you'll prefer the benefits of keeping it vs the benefits of selling it.

Any thread like this is going to be full of fanboyism, so I wouldn't put too much stock in the answers you get back.

all of it's coming to PlayStation 5 eventually the only thing I have is my backwards compatibility stuff.
Depends, what's your library like? Resell value on consoles is normally pretty shitty. Maybe pick up a second hand PS5 to check it out? Don't gimp your personal financial situation over internet nerd console war degenerate bullshit.

Also, refer to this ancient Chinese proverb:

"When in doubt, buy a gaming PC."

Both of these consoles are long in the tooth now, they're not at all as impressive as they were years ago compared to modern tech you find in even mid-level gaming PCs, I would wait for the next gen which is just around the corner so you can see what the backwards compatibility situation and games looks like.

If you're looking for the objectively superior (but expensive) modern combination, you'll often see people recommend a gaming PC and a Nintendo "Bing Bing Wahoo!" machine.

How much do you use it?

If not much then sell it.

Personally I will keep only one main system going forward. Its already too much to finish stuff on one system. Even if not everything is coming to PS5 or XBSX, whatever is available is usually a lot.

I am a fan of smaller, varied games. So xbox it is for me. For now.

Wait to see if they will give it the Ally X OS or any version of this OS.

Since the price of it is literally going up over time, you have nothing to lose by waiting.

Honestly depends on your library of purchased games. I've a library of 470 owned games on Xbox, 350+ on PS and 600 on Steam... So I'm pretty much fucked. If I could go back I wouldn't buy things on all systems...

So if you have like 0 to 10 purchased games on your Xbox : yes run !

Is it all coming to PS5?

I see no Halo MCC (or any Halo game for that matter) no Starfield, not to mention, like you said, the Xbox BC games.

I'd keep it just for that.

Considering what's come to PS5 so far, there's no reason not to expect everything else.

It's just a matter of time now.

If you sell on FB Marketplace, prepare to take far lower than you probably want for it.

I've seen the same SX consoles in my area for weeks and they haven't sold. Even when priced at £150. People no longer want them, even at a low used price.

This is UK, London bound Marketplace.

PS5s around the £250 mark are gone within the day of posting.

If you have games that can be played with the backwards compatibility feature - it might be worth it to keep it. So long as you have the space, why not? I always keep my consoles and still use the PS3 occasionally. It's nice to have the means to play a specific game when you're in the mood for it.

If is an X I would keep it... even if just for retrocompatibility is great enough.

Also... can't you use it like an emulator machine?

Don't sell. Do like me, leave it unplugged and buried under moderate amounts of festering garbage on your desk, a derelict monument to its own failure, and a reminder to use brain when it comes to make purchasings in hopefully sunnier future days.

I would keep it, unless you can sell it for a ton.
If you are buying a gaming PC then there is no point in having one, I would gift it to somebody I know before selling it for $150 or $200 or whatever they go for used.

Sold mine last summer and picked up a PS5 Slim with the money. No regrets, I had a very small digital library of 360 games that were all 'free' games with gold, and I got Dead Space remake for like $8 off Xbox marketplace Xmas 2023. Basically, the few games I care about on that account I can pick up dirt cheap if I wanted to double-dip( like the aforementioned Dead Space), otherwise I wasn't deeply invested in their current ecosystem so it was easy to walk away. I'm still an Xbox customer, I just access their games on PC so they get my money one way or another. I, like many, just have no use for the console anymore.

I haven't really used mine for 2 years now, but still can't bring myself to be arsed to sell it. I do occasionally think I might want to play Fight Night on back compat, but never end up doing so. Maybe if I build (or Steam release) a Steam box, I will get rid of it to make space for that.

I'm 92% sure Halo MCC, Halo 5 and Halo Wars will never appear on PS5.

Bookmark this.

If I'm wrong then I truly do live up to my username.

Can you be more specific here? What "smaller, varied games" release on Xbox that don't also release on other platforms?
They dont have to be exclusive. (Keeper is pc / xbox only though).

Xbox is a AA publisher with some bigger titles like COD here and there.

Thats the sort of output I would prefer.

Ok, but you're not answering the question.
I did.

I see no point in getting a PS5 if I intend to play smaller games on it.

Same for pc or xbox or Nintendo.

If I was exclusively playing Nintendo games, I would get their system, even if they went multiplatform. Or if I really enjoyed big budget blockbuster games, I would get a ps5 instead of waiting for their release on PC.

Exclusively is completely immaterial.

You're not making any sense.

If you want access to the widest variety of smaller budget/indie games then it's a PC you need (and a budget one will suffice here), not an Xbox.

The smaller/indie games that release on xbox are largely identical to the ones that release on all the other consoles.

Yes.

PC is something I will get into in future. Currently making way through some Switch library along with xbox.

I was talking about first party output between PS and xbox.
