LTTP - Remember Prodeus?

I found Prodeus unplayed in my Steam library the other day and got the urge for it.

The crowd-funded indie retro shooter from two developers previously employed by Raven Software, who worked together on Singularity.

It's funny, it feels like forever since I last saw it, but it's only three years old. It must be because of the horde of retro shooters saturating the market.

Prodeus has some things going for it, you collect gold that you use in a shop to buy new weapons, a progression system I wish more games used. The art style is still great, it's extremely extremely bloody, and they got an Andrew Hulshult soundtrack.

I am 3-4 hours into it, and the difficulty puzzles me in a good way, because it doesn't punish you, it's quite easy so far. I think I died three times, two of them from falling into a bottomless pit. It also seems that enemies stay dead even if you respawn (though I am not quite sure since I haven't died enough). I like that, it's more focused on blasting everything into bits.

In the first few hours I was just so-so on it, but it has grown on it and it's quickly turning into one of my favorite retro shooters on the market.

Yeah man, I was sure Prodeus was the promised boom shoot, the one game to finally surpass Dusk. I play a lot of these and none was ever able to surpass Dusk. Prodeus wasn't it either. Damn good game though.

Dusk isn't without problems (boss fights), but no other boomer shooter has come close to it. I fell off of Prodeus after a few chapters.

Yeah the bosses in Dusk were not masterful, but I think shooters in general have issues with bosses. Ultrakill is the only exception that comes to mind lol.

Prodeus is a backloaded experience. The early to mid part kind of drags, but the final stages are bananas.

Yes, Dusk is still king.

We all know these games are Doom, Quake or Hexen in different dresses.

Prodeus ain't too different either at heart, and I am not sure if Dusk would be king if it came out today.

I found it late, played it on my PS5 back then, i find it's graphic is glorious in big screen.
and I think I should replay it again. I haven't play boltgun in my PS, but in my PC i had nausea ....

I have to get back to it one day.

I got addicted to other FPS shooters while this was in early access and kind of lost track of it. Ultrakill is insane btw.

To me what sets Dusk apart from the others is the level design, especially in the third episode. It's just memorable level after memorable level. There are boomy shooties that have better gameplay than Dusk, like Turbo Overkill for one, or others that have a more unique setting, like Hrot, but Dusk is the perfect middle point. It has great gameplay and great levels. It's one of the best games of all time.

BTW, my favorite retro shooter is Duke Nukem 3D and we need more Ion Furies.

While we talked about this, is anyone has some suggestion for boomer shooter which You use only sword, or at least can be played fully with only sword? I'm in the mood of slaying with slash in first person camera. 2d sprite games is more attractive to me these days

That first gif: :messenger_open_mouth: ... :messenger_beaming:
That second gif: :messenger_confused:

Doesn't really look like the same game, honestly.

Played this ages ago, I think on Game Pass, and bounced right back off of it. No sense of place, setting, or tone. I mean, even the blurb at the start of Doom's manual sets tone. This game was just... empty. Felt meaningless.

I don't know. I'm jaded.

Now a game that looks like that first gif, but has more going for it, would be prime.

I liked it. Unlike a lot of these new low-fi fps games it felt like it was made by people who appreciated and understood the design of the old games and were not just gunning for a commercial aesthetic.

I played it when it came out and it was worth every penny.
A strong contender for best retro FPS on the market.
The graphics and art style are amazing. The music is perfect. Combat is super fun. And the gore is over the top. Just brilliant.

How could we forget when its been like only 4 years :messenger_tears_of_joy: Anyway, finished it twice, probably one of the most satisfying boomer shooters for me.I do however not understand why its taking them...2 years? to get the DLC out there. Almost feel like thye gave up on it.

Played this on my steam deck earlier this year and I fucking loved it. Think I got it off cd keys for like £1.50.

I'd like something else like it?
