I know Here Comes the Pain is the classic one for many but I find myself returning to Shut Your Mouth more. I like how fast paced it is and it has the better roster. You don't get Hulk Hogan and Jeff Hardy in HCTP. Also you can walk around the backstage areas in the Season mode and it has NWO.

For fuck sake!

I glanced at the title and thought we were getting remasters of these classics!

Fuck. I feel so empty now 😞

Neither.

Why not WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011?

I played every Playstation WWE game from Smackdown 1 to 2K16 and I don't really have memories of 2011. The SvR games that I remember most are 06, 07 and 08. It was so awesome to get ECW and flaming tables for the first time in 08.

Man, this thread brought back memories. A little off-topic, but how's the latest game? I believe I saw it on PS plus the other day. Am I gonna get my dose of nostalgia or am I gonna be left disappointed?

Def Jam Fight for NY.

Here Comes the Pain

but SVR06 perfected the system.

Will love to see Smackdown VS RAW 2007 HD on modern system played though backward Comp

Y'all jabronis don't know a good wrestling game even if it hits you with a stone cold stunner.

For me it was SYM > HCTP. The gameplay was simpler, but it meant for a more enjoyable arcade experience. If I recall HCTP introduced the system where you could wear down specific parts of the opponent's body, as well as weight classes which meant small characters couldn't perform moves like powerbombs/chokeslams on larger opponents. I appreciate it was in the name of realism, but this is wrestling - it's all fantasy to some degree.

SYM had a good balance of evolution over Smackdown 2 (PS1) and Just Bring It (PS2) but didn't stray into too complicated territory. Performing specials with chairs/tables was a lot of fun.

Good times!

>Two companies create two of the best controls and movement for wrestling games on both the PS1 and N64
>They both refine their systems a generation later to perfection and utilize it on other properties like Rumble Roses, Ultimate Muscle and Def Jam Vendetta/FFNY
>Both companies abandon that best aspect of their games in the next gen
>Suddenly wrestling games don't feel as good to control anymore
>WWE 2k games reach a creative height but gameplay-wise play worse and worse per entry

I own it. I played it to death (The disc refuses to boot half the time). It leaves a lot to be desired in both character creation and mechanics. I do not go back to it like WWF WrestleMania: The Arcade Game or SvR 2011. Those I can enjoy endlessly.

smackdown 2 was awesome, no mercy was much better but it still was a good game.

SYM and HCTP were peak wrestling games for me, and HCTP was the last one I bothered getting.

HCTP was also the first time that I noticed little regressions, whether it be in the CAW mode options or elsewhere. It's hard to say.

My first forum community was one dedicated to SD games. Some of us even met up at PlayStation Experience in London and played the SYM demo together. Good times. Where did you go, Fusion, and how did you have the money to run a forum back then?

The main drawback here is the career mode (whatever it's called) taking ages when you skip through matches. I remember that being unnecessarily slow. But other than that it was an excellent sequel that improved on so many things.

Wrestlemania Arcade deserves an update with a new roster of characters or classic characters. It doesn't even need modern graphics. One my of favourite 32X games.

I felt like Just Bring It was a step down from Smackdown 2 in many way. I didn't enjoy the gameplay as much for some reason and the thing that replaced season mode was bad.

I agree, I love both games but SYM grapple system allowed for smoother match flow & transitions between moves. The grapple system in HCTP is a bit jarring & carried over for the entire series.

I remember seeing this screenshot of HCTP in a magazine and then being disappointed that they removed Hogan

WWE 13 is my favorite of the later PS3 era games. Mainly for the Attitude Era mode.

HCTP is the greatest wrestling game ever.
The career mode was something else, so much fun.

Either way two two are yukes best games in my opinion.

I personally love WWE Smackdown VS Raw 2005 and WWE Smackdown VS Raw 2006.

There was some fantastic music in the SVR games. I found some great bands I would otherwise never have heard of.
Navigating through the menus and using the create mode was so much more enjoyable because of it. I remember one of the PS3 games allowing you to use your own music from your hard drive for entrances too.

SYM and HCTP were the first WWE/F games I played since the old arcade games WWF Superstars and Wrestlefest and was blown away with how much you could do in them. They both seemed incredible to me back then with endless things to do and explore and entrances that looked so spectacular.

Both made contributions to the fighting game scene that's been ignored, the career mode, the special moves i would remake here comes the pain, the 2k wrestling games just kinda exist.

those og smackdown games were really something else, ive seen videos of this crazy mod for here comes the pain, but i think the modder charges some ridiculous price for it. These new 2k wrestling games are rubbish compared to the late 90s mid 00s wrestling games.

I saw this few weeks ago:

I also saw a mod with modern roster.

I think they should allow us to do more crazy things in the games:

When this was out I use to hang out at a mates house with about 6/7 other friends and play those two games, but we never use to make random characters.
We use make the people in our group as close as possible with attire, including the the girls and insert them into the main career mode,
That shit was funny as fuck, our mates didn't have control of their characters creation so between the two of us we created everyone and the look on their faces 😂
Obviously you have to have been there to relate to it.
And we didn't take the piss with the way they looked, it was accurate.
But any inside jokes or anything we could mock them about, if the game let us do it we'd include it.
We even included our mates dad who was also in his pyjamas when he came down stairs so that's what he was dressed like 😂
But as I said, you'd have to have been there.
Fun times

I played them on emulator but I think I like Wrestlemania 2000 more. It has full entrances.

The gameplay felt better in Revenge, WM 2000, and VPW 2 over No Mercy. No Mercy had more options but it wasn't as good in-ring imo. Still put a 1000+ hours into it over the years.
