How many times has this game been remastered, remade, reforged?

Once, with the remastered version released back in 2010

I mean, it make sense they're reforging the second game considering they've developed the framework and all of the tools for Shadows of the Templars Reforged and both BS1 and BS2 happened to shared the same engine

I played the demo on PS1 back in the day. The dock section with the fat guy, Twenty and my exotic panties. Good times. I'll buy.

nicee, loved the first reforged, these games hold up extremely well still.
and new art was a treat, only issue was the archaic quality of the voice track

Can remember if it was this one or the first one but I remember a PS1 demo disc having a section from one of them. A dock section where you had to distract a guard and his dog.

God damn, remembering that got me in the nostalgia feels.

Yes!! I've been waiting for that, played the First reforged first time in my life and loved it. Fantastic atmosphere.

This is great news, I've done several playthroughs of several versions of Broken Sword 1, but never replayed Broken Sword 2 since the original release. I'll even try to get a physical copy assuming it's not going to be a very limited batch.

Kickstarter page coming soon. Since I missed it for the first game, I'd pay any tier that includes both 1 and 2 in a special collector's case. Just do it!

Nice. OG. I love the Broken sword series. I love point and click games like Myst, and Agatha Christie.

I actually prefer the original, the old one the character's actually blend into the scene, the new one looks like a overlay.
And the art style is better in the original too.

There is an interesting interview where Cecil shared some things about the remaster and gave a quite disappointing update on Broken Sword: Parzival's Stone

The first quote confirms the launch platforms: PC, Mac, Linux, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch
So fans might have to wait a little longer for a brand new Broken Sword story, but not very long to delve into an updated version of The Smoking Mirror, which will be released for PC (Windows, Mac, Linux) and consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, Nintendo Switch) at some point in "early 2026" – depending partly, no doubt, on the success of the upcoming Kickstarter.

There are also some bad news tied to Broken Sword 6. Looks like publisher Revolution had lined up for Parzival's Stone decided to pull back and game is not in active development anymore
What does this all mean for development of the new Broken Sword game, Parzival's Stone, which Charles revealed to me two years ago at gamescom? Well, it seems like it's currently on a bit of a hiatus due to the hardships faced by the whole industry of late. "It was being supported by one of the publishers … but they've pulled back," Charles told me. "We're working on it, but very much part time, so I wouldn't like to even hazard a guess on when it might be finished."

I wonder if the publisher that pulled back BS6 was Microids. Unfortunately classic 2D p&c adventures don't sell anymore.

They should just kickstart it, they have a lot of fans.

This was my first thought as well. I've recently read an article about Pendulo Studios closure due to poor performance of their recent games which were also published by Microids. That quote about "hardships of industry" was something I immediately associated with it. I've tried to look it up but Revolution never announced this publisher publicly

I wouldn't be surprised if this might be a case. I mean, they even did it for Broken Sword 5. But I guess the difference is that BS5 was kickstarted during its golden era where projects were hitting records after records. Nowadays crowdfunding campaigns aren't as successful as they were 10 years ago. Well, hopefully the remasters will sell enough so they could fund the game themselves and Kickstarter would just be an additional funding to make the game better

Hmm... Unlike the first one (which I loved) I remember hating part 2 and thinking that it was the worst of the series. Might give it another chance with the Remake though.

This the one with the goat puzzle? the animal goat, not greatest of all time.

I recall it being so impossible unless you spent hours just clicking away. Which is kind of how many point and click games were I guess.

I think Goat puzzle was the first Broken Sword.

That's too bad because the whole game is awesome, i guess you hadn't internet when you played it back then?
In 1996 I think I had WebTV lol I did have a PC, but don't THINK we had AOL at that time. It was a PC my dad built, a 486dx 16mb Ram, 250mb HDD and Windows 3.1.

Their Runaway games were fantastic. And I loved Hollywood Monsters, even recently replayed it.

I am afraid Daedalic Entertainment will be next to close after the Gollum game fiasco, and they made a lot of bangers in the past. The industry crisis is undeniable.

? They already closed their development branch few years ago, they are purely publisher now.

So imdb.com says it comes out April 1st, it may be a placeholder but it shouldn't be so long away.
Never played the 2nd part but the first Reforged was awesome.
I love Point n' Click adventures since i was a kid.

I kinda lost interest when I learned they had AI assist them in making HD backgrounds for the first Reforged Broken Sword (as in generate new graphics to be tweaked by humans). Supposedly having them completely hand-made would be too expensive and the project wouldn't turn profit, but you do explain that when you have the rest of the game ready and the changes are mostly about new visuals?

Seems like it's a placeholder date, I looked at their Steam page and Discord and they haven't announced anything yet

It's the other way around. Looks like they tried to use it to some degree, but they weren't happy with results and they basically scrapped it and consider it as an expensive mistake they pursued. Here's the full article, excerpt below

"Everybody had sent us AI-generated images of the screens and said 'You've got to use AI,'" recalls Cecil, who says the idea was to upscale the original 1996 Broken Sword backgrounds to 4K using generative AI, and then human artists would add the finishing touches."

But the result was not enormously satisfactory, because there wasn't really enough detail," says Cecil. "It just wasn't appropriate for us." Instead, Revolution ended up redrawing the backgrounds from scratch, using the original artwork as a reference.

"It took more time, but you got better results," he says. "So for Broken Sword 2, we've just done that, we are not using any sort of form of AI as far as the backgrounds and as far as the character sprites [are concerned]."

That's super cool they not using ai for development. Gonna support them for sure.

Think I quit after that lol It was next level cryptic. Had nothing to do with using your brain. That I recall anyhow
Yeah, it was logical, unlike many point and click puzzles, but it relied on a mechanic that hadn't been introduced or even hinted at in-game. It was a bit like the Sonic 3 "Barrel of Doom" in that regard: simple really, but you didn't try it because you didn't know it could be an option.

going forward it will be common practice in 90% of texture creation to use AI.

It's one of the things that can reduce development cost and time with very little difference noticable to the end user. It's just the way it is

the new one looks serviceable, it has lost some of the old charm, but not that bad.

At least is not like that hot turd of Return to Monkey Island remake

I'll be in day 1 for Smoking Mirror I really enjoyed replaying BS1 they did a great job with reforged.

Hopefully see something regarding Parzivals stone soon!!

if they have to use ai i hope they do something with the voices at least instead of graphics.
the recordings from 90s were abysmal on the first remake
