Hideo Kojima Wants AI To Handle “Tedious Tasks” To Cut Down Development Time & Cost

Speaking to Wired Japan, Kojima Productions game director Hideo Kojima discussed how a lot of people AI in creative work to come up with ideas. However, he likes to think of the technology as more of a friend or a helping hand, where he would lead the creative part and use AI to boost efficiency.

The Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid creator further mentioned that he would like AI to handle the "tedious tasks" that would lower cost and cut down on time. He envisions a scenario where he would be "co-creating with AI instead of just using it." By "tedious tasks", he's likely referring to things like handling lipsyncing in various languages.

He looks like he slept not so well the night before the interview. Maybe he saw some Ghosts!?

I mean, I don't wanna dump on the man, but that's kind of exactly what its meant for Kojima san.

Only the tech bros keep selling it like it's skynet and it's coming to eat your children as batteries and take your jobs.

it is obvious he let AI write the stories for Death Stranding 1 & 2.

Because even the monkeys shitting on a typewriter could come up with a better story than "he"/AI did.

I hate AI - especially in the creative fields. But honestly one thing I was hoping AI would do is reduce bloat and devtime for AAA games. The length of time it takes to make big games now is completely ridiculous. Get me back to the PS2/360 cadence of big releases because it's a fucking joke right now.

The guy just said how he would use AI to speed up development of his games.

Why do people have to interpret every sentence of his as him being self-absorbed, arrogant, know-it-all prick?

Makes sense.

This is it: "he likes to think of the technology as more of a friend or a helping hand".

You either adapt and use AI as an assistant (C-3PO) or keep perceiving it as a threat/enemy (T-800) and fall behind.

Tech bro here.....the majority of us are NOT saying this. The problem is you have the media who lives and thrives off of clickbait doom and gloom articles that are spreading all these stories about how AI is going to become Terminator 2 any day now.

The truth is, the most things at risk at this point for AI to completely run have already been that way for years. It's just now going to get so refined that you won't even be able tell at all it's AI. Things like customer service first line chatbots, etc....there are alot more things coming for sure, but none of it is doom and gloom.

HK has a very valid take on it here, and i see nothing wrong with it.

Just a normal person who works in software here and laughs at the average west coast tech bros.

Tech bros are 100% overselling their AIs to make it seem like they are lightyears ahead of what they are. Elon says his AI is going to discover a new element within a year. Stories of AI trying to stop itself from being shut down or trying to assassinate people is all absolute nonsense. They 100 percent pretend like their model is "scary" because they want you to subscribe and pay them money instead of their competition.

I also never said anything hideo said was wrong if you read my post properly im literally agreeing with him, saying that is what AI is useful for currently.

Not a "west coast techbro" lol nor do i even know or care to think there is a difference LOL Im saying that im in that industry, and not everyone is acting the way that you say they all are. Your 100% comment tells me you believe everyone is doing it, and im just saying we arent. Been in this IT industry as a dev/architect for 30yrs now, the overdramatization that you're saying is happening with everyone just isn't happening. People on the big stage with something to sell...aka Elon and Grok, i can see how they would do so.

And i wasn't saying you were disagreeing with HK, i was giving my opinion on his statements.

AI is okay as a support but main task and decisions should be done by humans. AI can be use to double check and support purposes.

Reminds me of Star wars, droids are pretty helpful for repairs, computation and unlocking doors and system.
