Ball X Pit is out and it's great

This is already my favorite vampire survivor like after 2h. It's also different enough from vampire survivors that you might like it even if you dont usually like them.

Also great bosses from what i've seen so far.

I wish I liked the demo more, but it just didn't click with me. It should be right up my alleyway as I love Breakout and Breakout clones.

Fuck wrong forum. Can a mod move it?

I liked the demo okay, but $15 seems a little steep for what this is - unless they've added a ton more stuff to the game since the demo.

EDIT: I guess the bundle with Vampire Survivors (which I own) takes the price down a bit. $10 is where I would land on this one I think.

Copying from the other thread since I just saw this one.

Ball x Pit is up. Fun little game so far. Pretty simplistic, almost like Vampire Survivors. Very short gameplay loop shooting enemies similar to breakout with a constant stream of power ups. Then spend resources at the base.

Seems like a decent 7/10 so far. Not a ton of strategy to it honestly. Just shoot the ball, mostly on auto-shoot. Most you can really do is launch it behind the front row so it bounces and hits multiple enemies

Update: maybe a 6/10 lol. I'm on run 4 and honestly a bit bored already.

Update #2: still in it. Seeing the varied power ups is addicting.

Played it, beat the first level after 3 tries, and I am quite enjoying it. I am not a fan of base building in general, but this seems pretty mild so far, so I hope it doesn't get too deep.

Gameplay is good, items seems varied and fun, graphics are good though I turned off all the effects like CRT, pixel text etc

Never heard of it before, so I actually tried the Steam demo first and then bought it. Price feels about fair, especially as a bundle if you own the other game in it. Been some great roguelikes in the past month or so too, Clover Pit and Drop Pockets to name just 2.

saw it pop up on game pass and gave it a go via cloud; pretty cool, feels far more intense than vampire survivors because you will get damage if you can't kill fast enough.
I don't really care for the harvesting shit though.

Loved the demo, bought it right away on release yesterday. And while the actual gameplay is amazing, I'm still not a fan of the base building part. Maybe it'll grow on me, but right now it's just as boring and uninteresting as in the demo.

I just wanna get out there and throw some balls.

Same here, didn't like that part in the demo, don't like it now.
The fact you have to "shoot" your guys to build the houses is really stupid and unless you move them around everytime it takes several "runs" to get them done.
I think that part needs a rework. It's not adding anything of value to the game.

So it's like a breakout roguelite? But it looks so busy I can't see what's going on. I feel like I'd lose track of the ball immediately lol.

But 96% positive so I guess in practice it works.

You constantly spam a whole bunch of balls like bullets with auto fire. No need to keep track of anything. Just aim accordingly and be smart about your upgrade path.

Barely. You don't even really have to catch the ball on the bottom of the screen. It's pretty brainless a lot of the time. Can be slightly fun to see the power combinations and as a 10 min time waster.

Beat the boss on the snow level with 1 guy. Unable to beat it with the second guy for the the second gear. Luck of the draw
Took me too long to notice that the blocks can't be hit in certain sides.

I went to replay the first level, It said I wasn't supposed to get anything for the town replaying old levels but I got lots of stuff anyway.

Disabling the CRT filter, vignette and chromatic aberration makes the game a lot more readable and pleasant (Steam Deck LCD). It looks horrid using the default settings.

damn this is crack... finished the first level and did some upgrades, now i want every vs type game to have upgrades management and resources minigame

They have a ton of characters which you unlock through gameplay, several biome's and each of those have multiple modes, and their small town building/resource farming mini game between runs is deep enough to make it fun to figure out the best layouts to maximize the time between your runs.

I usually start listening to audio books at night time and I fire up a few of these games while I am listening...its oddly relaxing for me BUT that means I don't really listen to much of the game audio...so I don't know if the music is great or not.

I think I picked this up for $13 bucks from some bundle yesterday, I have 4 hours in the game so far. Worth my time and if you like top down roguelites I recommend it very highly.

Played the hour trial on ps5 and it went by in an instant.

Same level of immediate "work this is cool" as loop hero.

Just a great game.

Got to level 3 game is super addicting but I am curious how long it will last. One area where I like it more than vampire survivors, is the runs, at least early game, are rather short. It's anywhere from 10-15 mins to best a level. The field you build in-between levels does seem kind of pointless. Cool idea in practice but I don't feel like having to consistently replace things after every round. Regardless, from what I've played, it's well worth the $15.

Level 3 changed things up a bit with the moving blocks.
I'm already tired of the base building. I think it's a speed bump in the fun.
Move the building directly in front of you and one harvest will get what you want. Makes it more of a shop than a town.
I'd much rather trade in gold to get tiny upgrade between runs. Expanding the town makes it harder to harvest, but you have to eventually.

having a lot of fun.

when it says something like "hitting the right side of enemy" does extra damage..is that my right or their right? lol

Ok it's "their" right!

Been giving it a go. Up to the 4th level. Need to grind some blueprints from the 2nd onwards. The base building is annoying if they don't go where expected and miss hitting an upgrade.

The base building part of this game should have been eliminated, it's so bad. Would have preferred it to just be a text menu, honestly.

got to try it with gamepass...i don't know, after getting pretty into starvaders, which is basically roguelite space invaders, getting into roguelite breakout/arkanoid seemed like the next step.

but there does not seem to be much depth to the whole thing...with upgrades and balls being limited, you often end up in unwinnable runs.

It did get better when i realized that having 3 or 4 balls out is a must, nop matter how powerful they are, but still it does not seem like there is enough meat

don't know if thye plan updates

I think the idea is good, using resources to develop perma stats.

The problem is that you get too many buildings to keep track of, you don't remember what a hell is what, it doesn't engage that part of your brain that want to build your own little village, so you just spam them around your area.

And the way to you gotta build by bouncing into stuff is a neat idea because of how the game plays, but bad in practice.

I'm finding this game addictive as hell. Definitely has that "just one more run" factor going for it.

Agree with the others that the base building kind of sucks though. It just feels like busywork having to constantly rearrange everything.

There wasn't as much content as I first thought unless they are hiding things not in the encyclopaedia. I've only beat what I assume was the last level a couple of times and it seems to imply it wants me to do with all characters which is unlikely as two of them are crap to use.

I really thought this was gonna be game of the year for me. Absolutely loved the demo, but now, after a few hours in the full release, I'm kinda struggling with even wanting to get back into it again after a couple of runs. I'm actaully considering refunding it. The fun just... went away. And rather quickly at that.

I felt the same, then it changed my mind.

I can't say if it'll happen for you, obviously. But it's not an expensive gamble if you did give it another go.

Beat the final level but it didn't give me the beat the game trophy.

My guess is you have to beat the final level with every character to do that.

No thanks.

$15 well spent. Will never touch it again.

7.5/10. The game needs far more soundtrack, certain balls are just too necessary limiting your options in order to make it through a level, and I wasn't a fan of the city builder shit at all.

The game could also have used some kind of story or lore to help it out a bit.
